Be careful with headphones. Pete Townsend attributed his hearing loss to headphones in the studio, not from loud amps (although I'm sure that added to it). I use loudspeakers primarily.

That song on the intro reminds me of Mystery Meat's "Profiles." Looks like these LPs you're talking about here are already sold (souled) out. And I spy a Thee Midnighters LP in the background. I think The Cramps talked about how the East LA bands added Thee extra "e" to let people know where they were from. The Premiers' "Farmer John" also comes to mind.

Another question could be how precisely the record player is set from the factory, for example the position of the cartridge. so that it follows the track as precisely as possible across the entire disc
@Andersljungberg12 күн бұрын
Fluance rt85 probably also has ortofon blue. And it still costs about 500 dollars right? . then when you talk about the price of the record player it should be with the cartridges. If you test with a more expensive cartridge then you must add it to the price
@PiecesofVinyl10 күн бұрын
The Fluance RT85 with 2M Blue - is Comparable to this with its factory cartridge - however - this is a better overall table - heavier/better and larger tone arm with the ability to change the VTA. The cartridge that comes with this table - is right in line with the 2M Blue.

This small amp is a cheap stop gap until I eventually upgrade to a separate component system. This replaced my 5.1 surround pioneer system which was more for movies and it sounds way better. But I eventually want to replace this.

I have the original unit, all good so far. The extra functions here are not worth the money imho, as you can do multiple cleans (without draining) and multiple dries already. The main improvement needed is a higher power transducer so that the micro cavities have more energy and therefore better deep cleaning. I’ve also had a few records that don’t rotate properly, due to minor warpage. This needs to be improved. Overall, it’s doing a great job but as an Engineer I always look for improvements!
@thomaslytle551917 күн бұрын
No Way would I pay $850 for an Audio Technica TT. Thats Too much for a table of this calibur. No auto stop/lift, detached dust cover, only comes in black, etc., etc., No thank you. I’ll stick with my RT-85 until I find a real contender at this price range. Rather spend just a little more and get a Dual. As for aesthetics, This is Super cheap looking too
@PiecesofVinyl15 күн бұрын
Most of the things you mentioned like auto lift and discord covers actually go away with more expensive turntables. I also own the RT85 and if I had to go back and only get one it would be the ATLP7 mainly because it has a better tone arm and the ability to adjust the VTA. And you mention the look - my gloss black RT85 shows every spec of dust and finger prints - I actually like this matte finish way better.

I only started buying from VMP in 2021 when a friend told me about the Quincy Jones anthology box which I picked up on pre order (I’m in the UK), based off the quality of that which was first class, I then started buying one anthology box each Christmas and picked up a few solo titles, mainly hip hop and electronic as nowhere else really caters for this genre like VMP. A few weren’t great like the Aretha Franklin - I never Loved a Man and the Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde Mono, but in the main they’re all superb and justified the money. I was very much a fan until I saw the price for the recent Alicia Keys - Diary of Alicia Keys which was $140 for a 3 Disk album, sure it was nice, but that price just didn’t add up in any way shape or form and was competing against the likes of a MoFi OneStep or AP UHQR, and while VMP are certainly better than normal quality, there’s absolutely no way they’re at that tier. It was shortly after they announced the price hikes and then news hit about the pressing plant debacle and it started making sense, and I haven’t bought any since december last year because I got a 40% off voucher which I applied to the Miles Davis Anthology (which otherwise I never would have considered as the price was far too high). The change from their peak to being too inflated to then having to take emergency cut backs all happened over a very short space of time, and unfortunately now from reviews I’m seeing, their customer service which was one of the things I appreciated so much about them, has all but vanished. It’s an absolute shame because they catered for genres that other labels didn’t. But now Rhino has really started pulling out the stops on some high quality hip hop releases and are starting to fill that void for me at equal quality to VMP. The Anthology boxes are some of the best box sets available on the market, I now have 4 of them and prize them extremely highly, they’ve even introduced me to genres like latin in the Ghetto box that otherwise wouldn’t be on my radar. It’s going to take them a while to regain trust, and they have to reduce prices, they just don’t command their new price structure at all.
@DanielSmith-r4z19 күн бұрын
Gus is excellent. More like traditional folk on a banjo than the blues. VMP does excellent box sets I'll give them that. I'm always taking swaps on half their titles and getting alternative titles I ordered a year ago and still waiting on. I recommend their "Explorations in Sound" 45 rpm Marantz audiophile 4 LP reference album. Pricey though. The first disc is fantastic, the Marantz guys picks. Second volume is VMP picks which are not as good. I guess trying to appeal to younger people on Vol 2. The sound quality is poorer and music selections are not as good. All selections are unknown artists.

You mentioned the tonearm should be adjusted to match the vertical tracking angle of an Nagaoka cartridge. I have an MP-110 that came mounted on a shell provided by Nagaoka and after doing the necessary adjustments, it sounded awful on my old Technics SL-2900. I tried changing this adjustment and did not work at all. Then I decided to buy another Technics shell and it worked very well. I don't have words for the sound quality provided by the MP-110. Everything is so tight, the bass, midrange, treble and timbre are on spot. And staging is fantastic. Just like you, I didn't buy a very expensive piece of equipment. In fact the turntable is over 40 years old, my DSP based stereo system that has stereo subwoofers and independent midrange and treble outuput is about 30 years old and so are the speakers. I use a Cambridge phono preamp that is compatible with either moving magnet or moving coil cartrigdes. This in fact is may be less than ten years old. And boy I'm so happy with my stereo. And yes, I have a carpet laying in front of my set.
@PiecesofVinyl26 күн бұрын

I have my reservations about Vinyl Me Please. They charge a lot for selections you could find yourself at much cheaper prices. And then there is the pesky habit of promoting popular titles - which makes their selection no different from the vinyl section in Target, Walmart or Best Buy.
