I’m half polish and my mother made these when I was a kid. She did not use the egg whites, so we also made coconut macaroons and dipped them in chocolate. Christmas ritual that I continued with my kids and plan to do with my grandkids. ❤😊 Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!!

Yummy! My Slovak aunt made a version of this with sauerkraut and bacon and the halushki was made with grated raw potatoes (flour, salt, and maybe an egg) and flicked off a cutting board with a knife into boiling water to make the dumplings. Heavenly 😊. Thank you for this version.

When I was young and still living at home with my parents on Sunday afternoons, especially in winter, my mom would say lets make some chrust. My father or brother would wander into the kitchen to see how it was going. When we had a small plate filled they would take it into the tv room. This would repeat until we finished and the last plate was left. My mom and I would sit exhausted at the kitchen table and I would remark, we worked all afternoon and all we have left to show for it is this one little plate full! because my brother and father would hae eaten every one and with great restraint left this one plate full (probably 6) for the cooks.

Hello! Thanks for all your videos!! & I’m a Super-Fan of your recipes; especially sauerkraut w/ ham shanks! I watched a Zakopane video today that featured a cheese, bacon, & dumplings soup. Do you know what it is, and, can you please show us how to make it ??! Thx! DS, Carlisle PA, USA.

This is a lot like Alsatian ( French German border region) choucroute garni, smoked meats, slow cooked with sauerkraut and vegetables ( carrots, potatoes, other root vegetables as you like). Probably every country with a tradition of eating pork, sauerkraut and vegetables has a similar recipe. They are so tasty!

My uncle used to try to teach me a drinking toast, which roughly translated in English to "The wine has not soured and Poland is still alive!" How would you say that in Polish? btw, @15:11, thanks, lol

Sounds great. I live in Korea and it's really difficult (and/or pricey) to get proper twaróg here. I wanted to avoid all recipes using vinegar or lemon juice to not affect the flavor and this is just perfect!

I took care of an elder Ukrainian couple in early 1980's. Everyone called her Baba, and he was called GeGe. Two of the best people I've ever seen. She taught me how to make Pierogi and cabbage rolls. She made potato & cheese, sauerkraut Pierogi. She also made Blueberry, & A cherry Pierogi. Her cabbage rolls were cooked in heavy cream, no tomatoes. No meat. Just partially cooked rice & fried onions, salt and pepper. Rolled tight, almost covered in cream. Covered in foil. Baked in a 250 oven for hours, until they absorbed the cream. It was absolutely delicious. I will never forget those wonderful people.

Hello Anna, I married an English born Polish girl 55 years ago and we're still married. Her parents came to the UK after WWII and her mother taught me how to make some of the dishes we enjoyed at her house when we visited on Sundays. My wife is not able to cook anymore due to illness and so I put those early lessons from Babcha to good use. I just discovered your channel and am picking up extra tips and also enjoy your sense of humour and relaxed attitude to cooking.

It's been a month and a half since I've been making your recipe for sauerkraut soup and it tastes just like how my mother made it. Since I have been eating it for a month and a half I've lost 15 lb in feel good. My mom was African-American and shared recipes with Polish, Italian and Jewish women at her job of 38 years
