That was pretty cool. Stunk about the early spin. Quick recovery and got it going again. Good dodge with the spin front of you. I was able to participate in the SRF3 race on Sunday. Just way too much fun. I had to get in through the last chance qualifier. Started 8th, finished 8th in that race to set positions 61 - 72. Started the race on Sunday in 68th and finished 49th. It was pretty cool out there on Thursday evening with all of the people watching.

There was a single vehicle crash in the kink in Sean’s Sunday AM race. Came in low instead of on line. You’d think by 3-4 days there he’d know you can’t do that. Quite frustrating.

It took a few replays at 1/4 speed playback, but I did end up agreeing that he chose to take that low speed dive back onto the racing line. At first I was going to say that it looked like a continuation of his loss of control, but the stewards know best. Rough way to end a season - though colliding with 27 would have surely been worse. Thanks for sharing.

Takeaway: When it's overcast and everybody else is scrubbing in, it might be time to take notes so I don't end up in the grass. Of course, that's one way to get a clear line.

good comeback drive after the spin, i'm not a professional nor have i even gotten to race in a series or SCCA, but warming the tires even doing brakes and throttle together a little would've made worlds of difference. I wanna race in a series like FA but idk how i even start or get to that point, i cant even manage to get a car or crew if i did get my license. any reccomendations or tips on how to get there? im a decent driver but want to try to go into something like SCCA. i dont expect an answer but if you happen to see this let me know!!

unfortunate spin on the opening lap on sticker tires, I still hope you enjoyed your Runoffs experience. There are lessons to be learned here, and I assume and hope you are better racer after that experience. Obviously rotating the car back & forth to scrub in the tires would of been a good call, when dealing with a low ambient temperature like that morning I'd suggest being really hard on the brakes to generate heat. Even to the point of doing very minor lock ups or riding the brakes while simultaneously adding throttle. Additionally, I’d recommend lighting up the rear tires, I tend to do that as I enter pit lane. I attached a video of the front runner in P2 and you can see how dodgy they were on the brakes during the pace car lap. One last trick would of been to do a hardship lap on your sticker tires to scrub them in pre-race (wink wink). kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZOrnpaqbbt-bZI

It was a bummer, but still, after driving the rFactor 2 version of the Indy GP course many, many times over the past few months (the iRacing version is outdated but slated for an update), it was still a bunch of fun to drive the real thing. I just wish they would have kept it green through the rain. We were ready to switch to rains in the hot pits. That would have been so much fun!

I was shocked that you didn’t warm your tires on the pace lap. Not a weave, not a single hard braking or hard acceleration. The tires were cold cause you didn’t do anything to build heat in them…..no surprise you spun when you gassed it…..stupid question but is tire warming a skill you haven’t learned or did you just goof? It happens, hopefully the experience helps you in the future.

@@CORNDODGER been racing since age 17, two SCCA Runoffs, one podium at the NASA Championships, seven divisional titles (admittedly not all were very competitive fields but four of them were), owned over 30 different race cars, driven over 60 different race cars in over 40 different classes, owned a race prep shop ‘90-‘02 before going to work for sanctioning bodies in executive roles and I trained at Skip Barber Racing as a driving instructor/coach, working for the company 90-95. Oh and I work as a driving coach currently, just back from the new track, Ozarks International Raceway from a private testing day. One of the things I teach ALL my clients, HPDE, Time Trial, Racing is how to warm tires by loading them via turning, acceleration and braking. That’s the whole purpose of pace laps for rolling starts or sighting laps for standing starts. Total race count is well over 400. David, long story short I’m more than qualified to ask why the driver didn’t warm his tires. I knew he was screwed when the stickers were still on the tires at the green, that only happens when the tires are still cold. A simple lighting up of the rear tires leaving pit lane would have helped, the lazy spin is exactly why you see professionals and gentlemen drivers light up the rears after pit stops, so they don’t Loop it on cold rear tires. At 56 I’m still racing, restoring two vintage race cars, a 1975 FV and 1959 HProd Bugeye. Gonna try something different with my racing after having run amateur club racing stuff for 35 years. Oh and in my professional mechanic career in the 80’s and 90’s I worked as crew chief in World Challenge & F2000, plus as a wrench on Trans Am, Can Am (final season), Indy Car, and more. My post might have come off a bit harsh I admit but i was so surprised that a driver in an F1000 car wouldn’t know anything about tire warming.
