Soon as I’d done this season I knew I had what it takes to do the sub20 , I just knew. It’s all done in training mate , weeks and months of hard graft , never forget that. Race day is only one day, yes it’s an important day but it’s only one day. Think about it like an exam you spend all year revising then you do the 1 hour exam …..it’s all done in training my friend. Own your training and you will fly - never given in mate - it’s always a pleasure Dean 👊👊👊

Congratulations on breaking 20 minutes. It is a huge achievement and I have no doubt that your times will continue to improve. The confidence & motivation of running sub 20 will spur you on. However despite the arguments you have outlined below in response to other comments I think you need to accept the official time of 19:56 as your 5K pb for now. I ran a parkrun with a young lad a few weeks ago and he finished just behind me in 19:03 but on his strava he was claiming a 5K PB of 18:19! There's a short section on the 2 loop course where we go under trees and lose GPS signal so the parkrun distance always registers at about 5.03km to 5.05km but some reason his watch estimated the run at 5.22km giving him a massive PB which was over 40 seconds out. Looking at your Battersea run the most that was lost 2-3 seconds at the start so I don't think it fair to claim 19:41 when weaving is an accepted part of racing. On the opposite side of things my official all time parkrun PB is on a course that measured 4.95km both times I ran it. In fact running 19:30 on that course is the equivalent of running 20:00 on my local parkrun that measures 100 metres longer on strava. I suppose at the end of the day the times that anyone can really stand over are the chip times in races.
@Journeyoflee5 күн бұрын
Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻 I’ll be keeping the 19:41 though 🤣 if it was a chip time I’d use that 10000% but my aim was to run 5k in under 20 mins it’s not about the park run and I ran 5k in 19:41 and I ran the parkrun in 19:56 at 5.07km . I’ll smash 19 mins very soon so it will all be irrelevant 🤣🤣🤣 I get with that other kid it was his gps playing up, but at Battersea it’s really common to lose time in traffic so I was always using my watch time as there is no chip👍🏻 thanks for watching and all the best for 2025 👊👊

Parkrun results is your proper time not watch time, but well done for breaking sub 20
@Journeyoflee8 күн бұрын
Normally I would agree but I wasn’t really going for the parkrun I was just running 5k - the sub20 in 5k . The parkrun is a gun time and isn’t very accurate at Battersea , you can lose so much time at the start and you end up running well more than 5k . Today was just about the 5k . Imagine doing a 5k effort in the middle of a marathon you would just use your watch time , it was the same here I was always just running to 5k , I started my watch when I crossed the start line not when they said go- thanks though 👍🏻🏃♂️all the best 👊👊

But at 3k I knew how I felt and I knew I just needed to keep going -your right it’s the best feeling ever 👊👊 sub19 will be coming soon and I’ve not 100% decided on the next big goal but it will be a banger 💪💪💪🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️ all the best pal 👊👊

@Journeyoflee8 күн бұрын
Cheers pal 👍🏻👍🏻 and congrats on the half aswell - brilliant distance the half 💪 yeh I’d say it’s the only downside to Battersea , the watch will run longer due either the overtaking or overrunning off line , then if your doing the parkrun you could lose 10 seconds at the start easily just crossing the line. The start won’t be an issue at a proper race as you will be chip timed 🤔 all the best for 2025 👊👊

Well done! Note, GPS is NOT accurate. Any experienced runner know that. Nearly always long. Many others measured 5.02 I see on Strava. So most will figure that the point where your watch measured 5 km is actually short of 5 km on the racing line for Battersea Parkrun. Have fun, enjoy the running. I agree with those that think sub 19 is possible.....
@Journeyoflee8 күн бұрын
Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻 appreciate that 👊 and sub 19 will be coming💪💪With regard to GPS it also depends on your watch. But I 100% called this at the start I was always using my watch time for this one , I knew I would either get held up at the start or run longer overtaking people. I’ve seen tons of people from marathons where people cover loads more from over taking traffic etc I’d always go with the chip time for a race but there isn’t one here (only gun)and I could also tell I’d run longer from the amount of traffic I had to go around. Them that measured 5.02 will have not dodged as much traffic or found a better route round , there was a lot on mine between 5.02 - 5.10 🤔.Normally my watch tracks pretty much every race at bang on the distance - all the best for 2025 👊👊

Great run Lee. I've done a few evening 5K races in Battersea Park but haven't tried the parkrun yet which hasn't been going long but will give it a go soon. A lovely, flat, fast course but the numbers who turn up at the parkrun make it a little tricky and you have to start a bit quicker than is ideal to get a good position. Battersea Park probably my favourite place to run in London.
@Journeyoflee9 күн бұрын
100% agree with all that mate. I’d say if you’re going to do the parkrun there then just use the time off your watch and only start the timing on your watch when you cross the start line . Cheers pal 👍🏻👍🏻 I would agree on a race mate you always take the chip time but parkrun doesn’t have a chip system so you take the watch time aslong as you start it when you cross the line. It’s only really an issue at Battersea as you can wait 20 seconds to cross the start line and cover quite a bit more than the 5k when passing traffic. Gun times are pretty irrelevant in my opinion , chip time always overrules them🤣🤣 your not taking my 19:41 🤪🤪 it’s on Strava so it counts 💪 but yeh 99% of the time I use the official chip but at the very start I said I was using the watch time as I knew I would either cover more than 5k in the parkrun or get held up at the start - thanks for watching again mate - all the best for 2025 👊👊
