Good video but Beckham scored a wonderful free kick in 2006 WC and set up 2 goals. Seeing as we only scored 5 total he was very good at the tournament. Media spread BS that he was bad.

How was Eriksson’s reign “mixed”?! It was the most unchanging thing imaginable. Win almost all of the qualifiers. Run out of ideas and get knocked out in the quarter finals. In friendlies, play the first XI in the first half, then make so many changes after the break that the understudies had zero experience of playing with the main stars. Even the first XI barely changed. Neville and Cole at full-back, Ferdinand with Campbell and then Terry in the middle. Beckham on the right, Gerrard in the centre, Owen up front. Seaman would have stayed in goal forever if he hadn’t just got too old to move; Scholes would have been picked forever if he hadn’t got sick of being on the left; the only evolution was Rooney for Heskey (which, inexplicably, made England less effective), and indecision of who would start in the left and then get subbed. It was the least “mixed” era in the history of English football.

Hw wasn't as bad as Southgate, Jesus christ, if we had mclaren in charge for the last 4 years we'd have another 2 world cups and a euros win

Legit a great vid. Deserves more views and subscribers. I remember this time well. The wally with the Brolly they dubbed him. Also Euro 2008 was fun to watch as I could actually enjoy the games without England stressing me out. Turkey's comeback vs Czech Republic is one of my all-time favourite games

Sven was by far the worst manager England ever had, look at the individual players he had but could not mould, Scholes, Bekham, gerrard ect if you can’t make these players win there is something lacking.

After seeing Isreal beat Russia in their game in hand and Macedonia beat qualified Croatia the same day, Mclaren thought Croatia would roll over in their final game. How wrong he was! And Gerrard missed a sitter against Russia, which would've put them 2-0 up. Ditching Beckham earlier led to England drawing against Macedonia, which was the key factor that cost them qualification. Mclaren thought he could walk into that job, rearrange the whole squad, and win trophies.

The FA have got a long history of going against public opinion and logic when appointing a new England manager, so it was no big surprise when the hopeless McClaren got the job. I would say the fact that he only had one campaign and wasn't helped by injuries to important players and individual errors by his players means McClaren doesn't deserve to be called our worst-ever manager. That epitaph belongs to Roy Hodgson!
@TheDanzomanzo3 күн бұрын
He might also be Newcastle's worst ever. Relegated from the Prem having spent £80M, there's an argument for him as the most out of depth manager in history. I doubt he'd have gotten near either job if he wasn't English.

Sven Goran Eriksen was Englands worst ever manager. Look at the talent he had & couldn't pass the quaerter finals. He made Paul Scholes retire from international football & played Emile Heskey, let that sink in. He played David 'calamity' James in goal. He had at least 7 world class players and still failed. At least Graham Taylor could blame the players.
@AdamPalomino3 күн бұрын
Hmm no. Sven started off brightly enough on choosing profile over name, the Owen/Heskey duo being a good example. Unfortunately he did slip into the pressure of shoehorning in all the big names, Scholes at LM being my main criticism too. As for goalkeepers, we really didn't have an established #1 in the country, at least not one good enough. But what ruined the squad most of all was the cliq culture, you're not going to get the Brazilian camaraderie between United, Arsenal and Liverpool players, ever. McClaren had more than enough at his disposal to at least make the knockout stages, he made Sven look an elder statesman of the game.
@varpingeviking2 күн бұрын
Just no, he took England to every tournament. If I remember correctly, losing just one qualifying game. In the tournaments England was never the favourite and got eliminated against the world cup winners Brazil in 2002, on penalties against the finalist and home nation of Portugal in 04, and being one man down in the quarters in 06. Perhaps not playing stellar, but they got there, and those are good teams. The English media went on a big campaign trying to ruin his reputation even before the 06 World cup. After the exit it just turned into this "he failed the golden generation and is the worst ever". Just that, it was a good generation but not the single best in the world at any point. Also filled with negative club mentality and unbalanced distribution of talent. During his period 01-06, ONE English team won the Champions League, another reached a final. The football and the players in other places were just better even if that generation was really really good. England was still an outside bet in tournaments. Sven Göran took a team ranked 17th in the world and made them ranked 4th. Could he have done better? Perhaps, but claiming he was the worst, on this video of all the videos, is just silly
