Usually, I outfit it in full Hydraulic plating, for maximum Melee Damage and carry cap, and give it a couple Hammer Saws with a head laser when I’ve scavenged enough parts to outfit it. Usually though, for the rare occasion I make one that’s about to be assigned for provision services if not guarding my settlements, I outfit it with storage plating for a bit of immersion. Edit: But I mostly use Sentry Bots for that sort of job. And simple Mr. Handys for settlement farming and odd jobs.

Just get a sentry, give a robobrain head (range boost) and replace one arm with an assaultron arm (it already is a ranged beast, so give it a melee weapon to balance it out), and call it a day.

I recently built a full Warmonger assaultron named Hammertron with two "Hammer Saw" for hands to stun/stagger and bleed any bigger enemies in game, i wandered over to a legendary behemoth and sure enough the Hammertron attacks, bashing staggering and slowly drains the enemies life, Highly recommend the "Hammer Saw" weapon for super melee builds.

I know this is old but for anyone curious the nuka world dlc completely changes thinks they get grenade launcher arms still slow but robobrain treads fix that 🎉

I have a Protectron at the Castle, named Medix, who uses an automatic laser claw and a shock, while also being outfitted with a combination of actuated and voltaic armor, and true to the name, a Regeneration Field. Medix survived the Institute attack at the Castle without being my selected companion at the time, and even helped me clear out Gunners’ Plaza after recruiting.

I made a protectron with sledge hammer hands and maxed out his melee damage with the hydraulic armor to guard my main base, they're decent guards since they're pretty cheap to make, they draw aggro well and they're tougher than they look. His name was Thunk by the way.
