Problem with that: they lower settlement happiness. Automatrons only have a happiness cap of 50, while settlers have a cap of 100. So, by having them, you actively reduce the abilities of the functions in the settlements, such as scavenging stations. I wish Bethesda had given it the same cap and it would just go with the rest of the settlers, or make it so it didn't affect at all.

Protectrons are good as farmers in the settlements - they are the cheapest model. They do not need to be armored, well-armed and so on to farm the crops - just to be. Anyway I prefer to equip my farmertrons with factory armor and protectron hand lasers just in case

Just starting this video I feel compelled to defend the Construction Protectron: from the base game prior to the DLC. Specifically the one near the unmarked Chemical Company Construction Site that leads to a high rise populated with Super Mutants. Those Nail Guns are no joke; among Protectron arms. My first time through that area I sent him outside, before knowing about the high rise, and found the path to the rooftop exit. What followed was me sniping from the rooftop while he soloed everything ground level that the Super Mutants could throw at him. He survived too, albeit banged up. Since that day I have a soft spot for the Construction Protectron. He's slow, but fairly sturdy for a civilian bot and capable of perforating a few skulls if the need arises.

The Protectron melee can be hilarious. I use a mod that makes Synths ignore 90% of all damage just to make them more of a threat. In Fort Hagan activated a protectron in there, and watched it kill a synth that was a skull to me. The protectron just kept wailing on him for insignificant damage. It was just so funny to me I sat and watched for close to ten minutes while that Protectron wailed on the synth, stun-locking him, and eventually killing him. One of those things that I can't quite put my finger on why it was so funny, but damn if it wasn't. Granted it isn't much good out in the open, but indoors where it can corner-whore someone, its hilarious.

My island is filled with protectrons like original protectrons just factory armour and protectron hand lasers, I found out that they are a group robot. They rely on back up that's why they don't do well on their own, anyone remember the park with the protectrons and the deathclaw? It shows that they know how to fight but they need the numbers to do so, so my good friend Harry. The case is closed, the protectrons are a source of brilliance. I also remembered I watched a single protectron murder a pack of synths, the hero fell by the hands of the courser.

In my experience the best parts of the protectron are the legs for a high carry weight without the sentry's stupidity. Preferably with the actuated armor to buff the poor bastard's low speed, but voltaic works for an energy bot. The other actual body part I find useful is the head, which has some powerful effects on it's higher level armors such as paralysis and "explosive limb damage". As far as gun's go the auto laser claw has respectable damage and fire rate along with surprisingly high accuracy when not hooked up to the protectron or assaultron heads. The other useful gun is the nail gun, which is basically a railway rifle for robots. Both of those guns also allow for another layer of armor, and who doesn't like more defense? Beyond that there isn't much benefit from using a protectron parts. All the other torsos are better and the sentry arms are a flat upgrade for a gun focused robot.

I had a Protectron companion, he was pretty good at his job and we were like close friends after I spent hours doing missions with him, then I dismissed him to a settlement and never saw him again. He was probably killed by something on his way home. Later though I rebuilt him as a Nuka World Galactron, and he was better than ever, this is the story of Artemis the Protectron who died in the wastes and was reborn as Artemis Nuka!

I still remember how the protectron near the tall construction building site near Bunker hill. Rain hell with nails the entire building with super mutants, limbs and heads nail to the wall all around. Dude you're missing the point. Protectrons, are supposed to gain up on enemies. In one mission with the Minutemen there was a terminal with two protectrons and I was overwhelmed. I used the terminal and guess what happened? They destoryed those supermutants easily. Btw. The normal protectrons and any other variant of it that isn't the fire department and all that are actually pretty good at fighting. I have also never really seen a protectron bug out.

I have a Protectron at the Castle, named Medix, who uses an automatic laser claw and a shock, while also being outfitted with a combination of actuated and voltaic armor, and true to the name, a Regeneration Field. Medix survived the Institute attack at the Castle without being my selected companion at the time, and even helped me clear out Gunners’ Plaza after recruiting.

Where Protectrons shine is in groups. Three protectrons doing their intended job... protection (i.e. static guard duty) is a great defense for any settlement. If an enemy is surrounded by 3 protectrons with varying weapons and automatron upgrades, the effectiveness increases dramatically.

I did some testing and found out a few things -even with factory armour its fairly sturdy -its slow movement speed makes it terrible for melee even if it does alot of damage -when equiped with two auto laser guns it can turn enough people to ash to cover the rest of tamriel

Ironically I built like 50 protectron robots. (mostly to assign them to the non interactive jobs ex: scavenging posts, watchtowers, etc...) my favorite ones were the Snipertrons who were assigned to the watchtowers, and patrol posts. they were protections with either Mr. Handy bodys or robobrain heads, with laser blasters for hands.

+High Vis Harry I know that by this point you've likely already gathered footage, but I might want to point this out: The true potential of the Mr. Handy is NOT in its stock form (although at low levels it can be effective in its stock form). Stock, they're pretty shit by the time you're at a high enough level to BEGIN Automatron, but there's a lot of untapped potential if you know what you're doing. Where it REALLY shines is as a long-range fighter with the two side-mounted eyes replaced with arms and some kind of ranged energy weapon placed on the end. What you do is you take a full Mr. Handy body, give it the default center eye for long engagement distance, stick some sentry bot arms on it, then put voltaic armor on the arms, all the torso slots, the thruster, and the thruster arms, then stick any energy weapon of your choice on the end of the arms (I recommend either Lightning Guns or Gatling Lasers). In this configuration, a Mr. Handy has the highest possible damage output for energy weapons of any automatron you can build, although it can't really take hits all that well, so what you basically get is a fast-moving, long-ranged glass cannon, but you don't need to worry about it not being able to tank hits because unless it gets swarmed by a whole horde of feral ghouls, nobody's going to even have a chance to so much as scratch the paint before they've been reduced to a pile of ashes. Seriously, they're SO OP that I had to send Codsworth back to Sanctuary because he'd keep killing things before I could even aim my gun at them!

I still love the squad of Protectrons at the Robotics Pioneer Park. you can have them face off against a deathclaw and they do amazingly well. even on survival the 4 of them took down a glowing deathclaw with ease and then happily marched around abit.

The Doom helm will almost never break and will most likely tear enemies apart when shot. So it's good for bailing you out of really hard fights like deathskull radscorpions and albino deathclaws

I find protectrons to be very helpful for doing work in my settlements i usually have them gardening and manning the scavenging station.

Don't forget you can grab them on the field and be your guard by grabbing the Total Hack magazine at Wattz Customer Electronics (North from Diamond City, SouthEast from Lexington) so any you found and activate can treat you as VIP, following you and fighting for you. Also if you have Robotics Expert (Int8 Rank3 lvl44) you can hijack another one, as well as Assaultrons, Sentry bots, etc. Combat only, won't carry stuff for you. Also sometimes they bug and attack settlers if hijacked when red, enemy mode.

My first robot companion was a stock Protectron called Steve. I think the look fantastic as the clunky retro domestic service robots but geez was he useful at being a distraction. Now he resides plodding around my Red Rocked home, makes the place look a little more alive.

I use Protectrons with Mr Handy Thrusters or Robobrain treads as provisioners and to man guard posts, though sometimes the guards just get the protectron legs. Then they get a laser and a melee weapon, and whenever I've run across them in the wild, they've handled attackers just fine and that includes the ones with routes going through the grounds around Saugus Ironworks (though those Protectrons usually get a flamer).

As someone who used a protectron, they are great with railway guns. Especially against raiders

The only use for protectrons that I've found is using them in settlements for gardening, scavenging, and in some cases defense depending on what weapons I've given them and what's attacking the settlement.

I use a protectron with the protectron auto laser hands and a robobrain head. Works pretty well and can handle a lot of my junk and items. Love it!

I love the aesthetic of the Protectrons, it's cool to see them walking around a settlement, but they just don't have much use in the field.
