I sense, my council rates going up again. I had the same feeling when they announced the Olympics for Brisbane.

When Brisbane formally bid for the Olympics, i did play around with a fantasy concept of the Mt Coot-tha quarry being the site of a mostly temporary Olympic Stadium, with tiers layed over earthen terracing. Post Games the temporary tiers are removed and the terraces become an extension to the botanical gardens. Leaving a 10000 seat athletics facility and new HQ for Qld Athletics and/or the AIS. A really stunning, and unique venue could be build there. Alas the area isn't serviced by rail. Any spur-line would at an insurmountable anount to total cost.

Anything "tourist" development on Coot-Tha needs to include better and more regular public transport, both to Coot-Tha and between the different "attractions" that doesn't include a magical-mystery-tour on a BCC Translink bus

Great interview and report. It's refreshing to see something with a positive tone these days. I hope they retain the terracing in the quarry. It's interesting and would be a nod to it's former use.

My opinion would be to use both quarries for parks and stuff and use vic park as the site for the new Olympic stadium. Close to all forms of transport, near the city, etc and would be the perfect place for a 100k seats stadium. Think futuristic and build a big stadium rather than converting gabba from 50 k seats to 55k

MT Coothera Quarry could be filled in and become a site for more homes and strata titled apartments . A new Highschool and primary school , shopping centre and a library and public outdoor activities centre . Hotels may also be built here . City metro would be rolled out to offer locals access to public transport. A tafe college could also be built here .

It is good to dedicate the inner city to beautiful attractions for both residents and tourists rather than industrial as it really does hurt the beauty of cities. Hopefully we can make good use of these quarries as well as developing the land around it.

I love the idea of public green spaces. I think we should avoid creating it into a park for cheap thrills with zip lines and other theme park junk. The grounds should highlight the natural beauty of our corner of Earth. We should use the opportunity to create something truly beautiful. I think something like the Garden of Eden and that park in Singapore are the best examples for us to draw inspiration from for this development. I am against rides and slides etc because frankly it's a short sighted and immature idea, there are parks with children's play sets if that's your thing.

People are sick of being educated by governments. The Mt Coot-tha quarry already has the shape of an amphitheatre. A ancient style entertainment amphitheatre, ( remember they have perfect acoustics so little to no amplification needed), would place Brisbane towards the top of the artistic excellence list world wide.

How about we let them revert to bushland instead of turning them into "something". Anything built in those places is going to require transport connections and parking which kind of defeats the purpose of the location.

Bra ya mad compare to Singapore gardens by the bay. No way would Brisbane ever have the budget like that. Also gardens by the bay is right next to the CBD and next to Marina Bay Sands casino. Your dreaming to compare that to quarries in middle of nowhere. Brisbane floundering just on cost of a stadium let alone a gardens by the bay equivalent . Your joking bro
