Hey, Red. I’ve been gone for a while but glad to be back. Great mash video. As a beer brewer, I’ve never fermented on the grain and this is a great example for how to. The pellicle on top from the lacto looked great. You can also use grain as a source of lacto if you don’t have any from a company as well. That’s a different story, though. Keep up the awesome work!

I havent got any alerts for new videos making sure things are good. But I have a question for ya. I know relatives as well as others who use creek water to make mashes and what not. Where I have my still I do not any creeks around. and getting water to site is not easy. What about collecting rain water? figure if creek water was good why not rain water... thoughts??

Hey Red, you know when you did that all grain ferment, what temperature did you get your boiling water and then dump it into your fermenter? I tried using a pot over flame and scorched the grain!!!

Dont toss the heads yiu can burn it as a fuel or as an aromatic flavor. We use the heads and make fire starters with parfin wax and cotton. Or fat wood ground up. This has to be my shack pull up a seat and watch. Thank you for your channel

Years ago we put apple cider in a crock pot on low. We threw in a bag of cinnamon jolly ranchers and melted them down. It was delicious. No booze, but everyone liked it. If you have kids, it would be a good option. I have no way to make moonshine, so if I was following this recipe, what could I buy to add in?
@whateverthedaybrings2268

Everclear will work if you want to use a high proof grain alcohol. You could also use vodka if you want lower proof. If you can find an apple brandy that would also work. Given there is plenty of apple flavor you are adding, apple brandy would not be necessary, it would likely just add more depth and a slightly wider apple profile. Cheers! Tip: when using clear alcohol like everclear or vodka, you can really smooth out the taste by running it through a charcoal filter. A Brita filter or a zero filter will work. I typically run it through 3-5 times. WARNING: It will make an already dangerously easy to drink, like apple pie moonshine, drink even easier to drink; this is especially the case with high proof alcohol like everclear. That said, please drink responsibly.

I had to come here and comment. As a complete novice, you have the most informative and to the point videos. Thank you. It has been surprisingly hard to find good, informative videos that I don’t feel the need to fast forward thru to get the info I am looking for in a reasonable amount of time. Love the channel and look forward to new videos. Shine on!

hi i am currently making an apple/pear mash to make into schnapps/brandy and not using any sugar or water only yeast for the mash and i have a few questions perhaps you can give me tips on 1)does letting your mash settle and clear up as much as possible with longer ageing before distilling in a pot still make for a better quality tasting shine or it won't matter? does the suspended yeast make a difference in bad or better taste? 2) before doing my second run should i dilute my low wines to say 20%abv with water as i seen many ppl say to do or wont this dilute the natural juice flavors, aromas and alc even more striping them away? 3) once i finished blending and want to age it for a few months in glass should i keep it at the same abv strength or cut it down to my drinking preference first?
