Bathory developed the sound before anyone released albums in Norway and bathory was from Sweden. But I never liked bathory so I'm not acting as their spokesman either. I agree with what he said about Deathcrush through. I tried listening to it recently and I didn't make it through two songs 😂

Definitely Mayhem did cause huge impact on extreme music in the past and it still has strong today.I would say that Mayhem was the first band to sound exactly as black metal would really be sounding that time. I mean in terms of aesthetic,music and spiritual environment around.When we bring the malign energy,spirit of rebellion and autentic evil music back together;we got to name it by Mayhem,a dreadful black metal foundation which carved its name in the worldwide extreme music stones.

Truth be told: "Dead and Euro" have LITERALLY created everything. Corpse paint? Dead. The "typical Norwegian Black Metal riff"? Euronymous/Blackthorn. The violent on stage behavior? Dead. The infamous "it's something more than just music" dangerous lifestyle? Dead/Euro. The "inner circle"? Euro. The helvete shop? Euronymous, and the list goes on. Without them, what we get is just an empty, harmless and meaningless stage show (at least with Maniac still in the band we had some potential danger going). Yeah, Daemon is not a bad album, but as a spiritual entity, Mayhem is long gone. Watain is much more faithful to Mayhem's own spirit than Mayhem is faithful to itself. And I say this as a big Mayhem fan. Sad but true.

Ok, let me get this straight, so Mayhem did NOT die with Euronymous, but everything worth mentioning in Black Metal did come from him? LOL. Oh, come on! There's a HUGE difference between the Mayhem of old and today's band. Everything that was great about Mayhem is no longer here: the infamy, insanity, danger and the genre-defining album, aesthetics and behavior. It IS a cover band of its former self. A meaningless, world-touring, glorified cover band, but still a cover band nonetheless. It is a boring stage show. Then you go home and it's over. The mystique is over. The infamy is over. Dead and Euronymous' influence on the second wave of Black Metal was so immense that everything that came afterwards simply pales in comparison. It became meaningless. What we have today are just the dead, decades-long echoes of the importance of its past. It's an echo of what no longer exists as a meaningful explosion. It exists only as a permanent dead/frozen reference to the impact of that explosion. In this sense, yes, Mayhem did become a cover band of itself. Black Metal is supposed to be dangerous. The moment it becomes harmless is the moment it dies. In this sense, a band like Watain is much more faithful to Mayhem's own spirit than Mayhem is faithful to itself.

I didn't forget it fangirl, it's not satanic it's garbage compared to the stuff with Euro and Dead. Simple facts remain that they should have formed a new band and started again after Dr Mysteries was released - but had they had the integrity to do this they couldn't cash in the endless cheque paying up on their past glory and notoriety could they?@@MontyCantsin5

It IS silly. And not only silly, but also sad. By telling us all these legendary tales of old, what becomes apparent is how meaningless today's Mayhem really is. It does them more harm than good. It shows too much.
