Amazing video Ben, good to see you back and sharing great information. Wish you successful and healthy 2025!

Sweet dude! I built my rig out of 8020 that my work was going to throw away so it cost me less than $100 to build because I got a junkyard seat and some hardware when I started to run out of thuff from work. It's fun to build with.

Great! I wanted to build a cockpit but didn’t know how to do it properly, especially how to mount the base and pedals so that the angles are adjustable and visually appealing. You explained it in detail, and now I can picture it and build it myself-thank you! The only part missing in this video is seat adjustment. I’ve never seen how it looks in real life and have no idea how to determine if a chair can be attached to the cockpit.

I followed your previous video for a wood DIY rig. Built one for my son and it works great. As you say Metal is the next step. Thanks for the insight. Sim racing is a blast.

You honestly make great videos for the whole community and your voice fits so well with educational content. Appreciate all you’ve done for new sim racers/drifters like myself.

Glad to see another video 👌 Another, almost tool free fastener. Are the "Automatic Fastener Set" or simply "Automatic Fastener". You use a drill machine, and it goes into the the same slot as the T-slots nuts. Only you are using the fastener as a self threading bolt, that goes parallel to the M8 hole in the center of the profile on each side of the extrusion profile. This makes it so angle brackets/corner brackets/corner gusset are not needed, and they are almost as strong as a "blind joint". Search for "extrusion auto fastener item24" here on youtube, and a video demonstrating it will pop up in the result list. Just thought I would add that little detail, to allow further custom fittings without special tools.

This sure looks a lot more convenient to build than a wood rig, but it's a lot more expensive.

I think we have similar design preferences, and Optimum does a great job with their content. I started watching in the past couple years and wanted to include a clip of their sim setup 👌

I can easily push moza r5 past its rotational range. Its the biggest negative so far for me. Setting the wheel 180 degrees I want it to stop at 180 degrees.

I actually have a rig already with a thrustmaster TG-II wheel/pedal setup. I've been considering one of the DOF motion sim rigs. I've been doing gran turismo on the PS5/PSVR2 (the new Gran Turismo has a drift component) and without the motion, it makes me feel a little nauseated. I also feel like part of the learning experiences requires "feeling" the car's response to the driver's inputs. What are your thoughts on that? Obviously that's not what you're using, but do you think it would help, especially for a beginner who doesn't want to put his Z06 into a wall and doesn't really have a giant parking lot in which to practice?

You can get wood for free if you find a house being built (if they’re still framing you’ll probably have the best selection) and ask if you can go through their dumpster for off cuts. It’s all going to a dump anyway so they’re perfectly fine giving it away for free. You just have to bring a tape, cat’s paw and hammer so you can measure the wood and pull out any nails.

Hi Kame! Been a while. I have dressed my rig in a cloth type deal. Cant really express it properly in english but its the same thing as they put on subwoofer in cars. It looks alright but cannot be clean very well....

Sim games dont use power steering FFB and instead everything acts like a manual rack with just multiplier being scaled, 4-6 NM holding torque is what power steering cars put out on average and manuel rack ones put out 8-12 nm (they can peak around 30 NM on certain conditions like hitting a bump while going through compression etc.) The deal here is getting a direct drive so that the speed is basically not hardware limited but instead software limited, and having as high slew rate as possible while considering budget. The slew is proportional to the peak/holding torque most of the time btw. I dont recommend getting a Moza wheelbase since they oscillate a lot without heavy dampening and other effects (hands off drifting becomes a pain with a shaky oscillating wheel), instead Simagic, Simucube or any other high-mid end wheelbase with proper PIDs are better for drifting. I dont know much about Fanatec so cant talk about that.

Ok, its good that you note that certain NM are too much for "real life" comparisons to cars with power steering..... but what if you're drifting a hachiroku that DOESNT have power steering? I own one, its my daily, but never drifted so I would like to know. I gotta wear grippy leather gloves just to drive on the street 😅 and 1 hills run exhausts me, so Im guessing that in fact my wheel is more like 15-20+NM irl?

i like to relate it to speaker drivers for base and such. if you lack motorforce, sound still comes out, but its not true to the signal. you most likely dont need 8nm. but to keep relativity of the forces equal to real life, you will need it. peak values represent sharp changes. same goes to soundwaves. sharp changes matter a lot. thats what you stated with mid corner and transitioning. thats where big changes await you on your forces.
@byo46485 күн бұрын
headroom is the most important thing. else everything starts clipping and feels the same. like limiting or compressing a sound wave. your track is a song.
@byo46485 күн бұрын
and you are the guy dancing to it. you want good sound, as you want realistic steering.
