Pro tips for mounting tubeless tires: • inspect the rim tape o if it looks good, leave it on o if it doesn't look good, remove • get fitting rim tape! • put a layer rim tape on and do not press the middle part down! • make sure the sides of the tape are airtight • punch hole for valve carefully • mount valve • put o-ring on outside of the valve • push valve down and screw it reasonably tight • mount tire, so it sits in the middle of the bed and be careful not to damage the rim tape! • remove valve core • pump! • with rim tape not pushed down even a not so tight tire should inflate and pop into place o if that didnt work, check if rim tape is still ok o get a pump booster or compressor and use it! • remove pump, tire will deflate • fill in sealant through valve (i.e. with small sealant bottle) • remount the valve core • turn the wheel so sealant gets spread • pump it up • done Annual maintenance should be to remove the tire completely, clean old sealant off everything including the tire itself, clean valve including valve core, remount tire with new sealant. Otherwise the sealant will build up to something nasty.

I use plain old candle wax and I heat it up in a "double boiler" (aux bain Marie) which at least makes sure it won't get over 100c. After a few rides I top it up with squirt lube. I find the stripping of the factory grease the most arduous and annoying part. Still worth it though, So quiet. So clean (oh yeah and longevity) Also I don't plan to really clean my chain every time. Maybe every couple of months?. I just melt the wax, and drop the chain back in there once a month for a while. I reckon there's not much contamination to get rid of.

I put my salt in there as well, as well as some citric acid (to give it a more refreshing lemony taste.. or just some lemonade syrup stuff) Haven't used the squeezy bottle yet nut if I make a gel like consistency I probably will). I just put it in a 750 ml bidon which is easier to grab. (my plain water is either in the other bottle or in my backpack (think camelback)) I like to reserve the other bottle on hot days to cool me down by pouring the water over my head (or legs)

Finally a real life video! I too have had the same experiences and here are some tips: Situation: Cyclocross bike - Vittoria Corsa Pro 32mm - Sports towpath but also on a bike ride (so: possible glass debris ;) and the worry of arriving on time. ) Solution: switching to a latex inner tube: The performance is fabulous and I know what to expect in the event of a puncture whereas with tubeless, I have to understand what is happening: Do I continue to ride? Should I add a strand? I put in an inner tube, re-inflate and see what happens? .... Should I clean the putty-repainted bike this evening? ;) The rest: I'm going to insert a Mr Tuffy anti-puncture strip which, according to the results on Rolling Resistance, only loses a few watts for a significant increase in puncture resistance. The idea is to answer this question: High-end tire + anti-puncture strip vs reinforced tire. A+

Depends on the type of road biking. It's good up to about 42kmph and then you spin out. A 44T would be more efficient for the road but would then be too big for the gravel for the hills I ride on

My Giant Contend AR1 came fitted with tubeless tyres and I top it up with Stan’s. I’ve had one slow puncture which did not seal initially so I took the wheel off to investigate using a footbath of water and rubbing the tyre to try and find thorns, look for bubbles, etc. There was suddenly a rush of air bubbles, the water went cloudy with sealant escaping, then after a few seconds it sealed. So yes, Stan’s does definitely seal and I’m happy to keep using it. That’s my experience after about five months and about 1,500 miles (including RideLondon where huge numbers of other riders were by the side of road fixing punctures!).

Is it not ment to seat the tyre first, deflate and only later pour the sealant through the valve?
@SpinAnGrin

That's the aim, but you had to slightly unseat the tire to create a gap big enough to pour In the sealant
@mspnn5095

@@SpinAnGrinThis Is sth I dont understand - I think the idea is to inject the sealant through the valve with an already seated tyre. Then there is a smaller chance of the sealant spilling out of the tyre.

Ye, so with most sealants you can do that like orange seal. But with Silca sealant you can't. Silca has little pieces of carbon fibre that will block the syringe so you have no choice but to poor it in.

I have the zipper version. It's really good. I've mounted it on two bikes - one with no frame bosses and one with. Both worked very well, whichever you choose. If you can mount it directly on your frame without straps, it would be better, as the gap between the bag and the frame will be narrower. The only issue I have with this is that it isn't 100% waterproof. I ride in heavy rain a lot and my stuff inside got wet from the first ride I had with it. Maybe I'm expecting too much? I'm not sure.

I tried mucc off sealant for a couple road tire set ups on three different tires, scwable pro 1 tt, enve, and a specalized cotton sidewall lightweight and all three lasted less than a day. I bought a gravel bike recently and because I already had the ceiling I tried one last time and it lasted a couple of weeks until getting a function but it would not seal. I switched to silca recently and have gone 2 weeks flat free so far. Im thinking of installing vittoria inserts and just riding home if I get a flat and a dynaplug wont work so that I wont be playing with glue. Which, is a really good way to look at it.

To be totally safe would limit it to around 300km in dry clean conditions. There tends to be a tipping point where the wear rate increases rapidly. Pop over to zerofrictioncycling and read his documents ! I've been waxing since 2020.
@brandonhoffman4712
@brandonhoffman4712 Ай бұрын
@@dawn_rider 300km sounds too often to me. It about 3x as often as ive seen recomended by manufacturers. I went on zerofriction but found 0 testing of the same chain ridden on the same wax for different lengths of time. I did see various breakdowns and charts that did not corelate to the information I was looking for. I would love to see it if its out there. If you know where the info is could you point me to it? What im seeing is its okay to run your wax to 800km If it gets wet clean and dry the chain. (Using running water/air, not towels) If the chain gets grumbly before 800km, its time to clean and rewax. But im not looking for 0 friction, just better than where I came from. The 1st chain I waxed was in 2001 on my kawasaki, using maxima chain wax. I dont think theyve changed the logo on the cans. Funny, its parafin too! If you wanted a spray wax. I should have stated im new to waxing bike chains. Also, wax holds up just fine in the wet/grimy conditions. (On motorcycles) it is good to not let the muck dry in the chain. Technically you should be fine not drying the chain, it shouldnt corrode. Drying wont really prevent rust, it will expedite it. Any bare metal that can rust will develop surface rust after drying from a water bath. Wax is technically a solvent that coats the metal and bonds to it like a penetrating lubricant would. Only sufficient force or chemical processes can remove the wax enough to form rust. The main reason a lubricant outperforms wax in this area is lube is still fluid and can resaturate anywhere its been removed in normal use. The wax must be reheated to become fluid before it can resaturate areas it was removed from. Removing enough wax for rust to form would take quite a bit of wear. This is the most common complaint ive seen from those riding in dirty/wet enviornments. These are the ones saying just rewax when it gets grumbly. Luckily I live in a desert, called California. We use all the water on the palm trees to live that holywood lifestyle! So im on the upper end of wax life on a bike chain. Im doing all this to a mountainbike that was given to me. (2014 trek remedy 7) im using 2 new kmc 10spd chains. If i keep this bike its getting a drivetrain overhaul before too long. I hate 3x front derailleurs and am so glad humanity moved forth. After I get a gravel bike dialed in im going to circle my attention back to the mtb. But for now I need a bike ready for me to put down more miles on. The last road bike I used was a schwinn varsity I collected in 2010. It was so much fun to ride, im looking to get back that direction. Do you have any recommendations on a good gravel bike? Ive been eyeing a Specialized Crux, Pinarello Grevil f3, or a Trek domain. I would love to consider similar options in the $2,500ish range for a new bike. I dont love the domain's max tire size, crux feels expensive for aluminum, pinarello im stuck on a shimano 600 drivetrain. All would need some upgrades to get where I want them.

Ive been running a waxed chain for a little while myself. My drivetrain is soo smooth now! Shifts are fast and clean, except 1 gear thats always been troublesome since i got the bike (used). The bike is a 2104 trek remedy 7, the old system was mucoff dry lube. I got sick of constant cleaning of my drivetrain with degreasers. I got sick of feeling my chain feeling smooth and clean for 1-2 rides, then just looking @ the muck that accumulated. At this point I dont even think mucoff should sell chain lube because its mucon not mucoff. The waxed chain lasts me longer without cleaning. I can touch the chain and its just wax and some grit that all brushes off my hands, making in feild service a dream! It also keeps lubes from getting to the back brake during cleaning. The only downside I would say is adjusting your rear derailleur. The chain doesnt really make those ticking noises very loud, so you have to really listen and use the force a little bit. I use the super secret chain wax. I was going to create my own blend, but theres no savings really.

Can you just use serving measurements and use cold water and a hand blender?Also have you tried to include electrolytes ( salt), BCAAs in with the sugar? Do you add flavor like a little Ribena or other flavors to mix up the taste?

Ive not tried adding flavouring as I enjoy the sweetness of the solution anyway. Might give it a try through ! How do you find the taste of the brown sugar
