Pulled this tv off the curb, someone's trash. Never worked on a TV in my life. I had just started building drones and was learning about electronics from that. I had a gut feeling about the TV. Got it home and opened it. 3 capacitors blown. Pull 3 from an old PC power supply. Been usingnthe TV for almost 6 years now. 😊

The sony KDL SERIES is well known for this fault i have one and yep it’s doing the same, no it’s not the T con board, it maybe the ribbons X4 that connect to the base of the screen so i would start by removing the screen after you have looked at all the components on the boards like leaking capacitors etc. hopefully it will be the ribbons so an unclip of them a wipe and clip them back in maybe this will cure the dreaded flicker, if not go for the logic board this maybe the problem a software update with incorrect voltage supply data may also be the fault it’s a really tough one this and Ive fixed many flatscreens. Simple fact is sony have failed us all it’s a lovely TV and not cheap ! But of course you won’t find any help from them. There is NO ‘oh it’s definitely such & such needs replacing etc’ it’s a nightmare find and fix and the screw count is off the scale. IF i find my flicker fault I already changed the main power board it was £12 so boards are cheap and easy to fix but this isn’t that simple as it could be 1 of 6 faults so it’s finding out which it is. I will post my fix IF i manage to find it. Yes it is a nightmare one for sure. Sony are at fault here.

I really liked the detailed way in which you explained this fix cause I have this same problem I took the back cover off of my Sony KDL-46 HX 729 thinking it was the T con board and was going to order the part and ON the order I saw an important warning message stating that if I had horizontal lines and flickering that it most likely is a damaged LCD screen panel now I will put back together but I'm wondering on how to take front panel off the plastic bezel off is it easy to take off thank you so much for your detailed information.
