Sorry to hear about your ears John.....I had the same thing a few years ago....once syringed it was magic ...instant cure! So nostalgic walking with you through Stalybridge....I was quite touched by this video and seeing it once again...made me quite homesick. One of my first jobs...a YTS in a shop was on Melbourne St. The old bus station seems to have given way to the canals....funny as when I lived there older people would say there was the old canals buried below the roads...seems like its gone full circle! Nice to see the market stalls and hear the accents once again....I do miss Northern people...more specifically Mancunians ...I was born in Crumpsall Hospital. Thank you for this treasure of a video....I'm sure future generations will look at this also as a moment in time and thank you also. Best wishes and take care 🌛🌝🌜🖤

Thanks Gilly looking forwards to getting my ears sorted now , The Tesco superstore is now where the baths were and the canal was opened up again , Stalybridge is being regenerated slowly , its going more hipster (or trying to be) and more coffee shops and artisan than the Vegas heydays , just need an outdoors/surplus shop now with so many walks around here. I'm from South Manchester originally did a YTS in 1988 too 😂. Ive lived in many places Greater Manchester over the years but Stalybridge seems to be the sweet spot about 8 years here now. I started getting into goth/punk music in 1986 in the San Francisco Bay Area. I waited two days in line to get U2 tickets for their first Joshua Tree tour in 1987. I had so much fun and met a lot of cool people. There was a US chain store called Contempo Casuals back then that carried a lot of alternative friendly clothing. I always found cool stuff just going to regular stores and thrift stores. My favourite skirt in the 90's was something I found in a mainstream store; a long black lace layered skirt. I think the internet is the best and worst thing to happen to alternative subcultures. Everything is now accessible but imagination has taken a back seat to buying 'goth/punk in a box'. I was lucky and lived near some very good record stores that had separate punk and goth sections. I started buy cds in the late 80's because I couldn't stand cassettes, they would always warp. I used to DJ punk/goth music over twenty years ago and I have the cd binders to prove it! LOL Love the Danzig cross, I saw the original line-up in 93 and it was one of the best shows I have ever been to. Those first three Danzig albums are excellent and I still know them all by heart. LOL I also love Samhain and I own a mint 1st edition US copy of November Coming Fire. It's my holy grail and I got it for only £100 a few years back.

Thanks for your comment , I think we had to be a bit more creative with clothes back then and think outside the box which are still handy skills to have , I remember the word cheesy being banded around and none of us wanted to look cheesy 😂😂. It is great having good record stores nearby as it becomes a fun activity browsing the albums/CDs for new discovery's. Yup tapes were a liability lol .Thanks I love the Danzig cross too , my daughter spotted it on eBay for me a few years back. I wish I could have seen Danzig in 93! I have all the Samhain albums and Danzig albums besides the last two. Best wishes 🦇🦇

@@thehealthanarchist The whole 'white-face' thing going on right now I find a bit cheesy. I have never worn it and during my heavy clubbing days in the late 80's early 90's I can count the number of people who wore it with one hand. It was just considered very over the top and something only bands would do. The idea back then was to look pale, not like a mime. People can wear it if they want but it kind of makes me sad when they do because it is not exactly a friendly make-up idea for POC.

Gigs, concerts, fashion were all driven my the music papers when I was a kid NME, Melody Maker, Sounds and Disk. Posters for bands were everywhere and I remember sending a SAE to Newcastle City Hall with a postal order inside and a couple of days later my return envelop would come back with my tickets inside. I queued up all night with my mate at Newcastle City Hall to see The Rolling Stones in 1972 and I still have my ticket sub £1.65! I used to love all my LPs but they were all boxed in my garage for years, so sold the complete collection last year for £1K . Cheers Alan

Things have changed, some for the better and some things are worse I think, £1.65 works out £27.28 in todays money which i think is a fair ticket price , and is probably about what big bands today should really be charging in my view. Nice bonus for your vinyl! , take care pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤

You got me think there John... guess I got my first computer in end of the 90s. And I had hardly known the word Goth yet. But I was listening to the bands and wear mainly black clothing. With the computer it started getting easier getting in contact with others and that way discover even more music. My best "goth years" was between 2000-2008 something... back then I had my most extreme alternative looks too. I think in beginning of the "digital music" you did get the cover when you bought digital music. Nowadays I use KZbin or Spotify, cause I can't save music directly. And all photos and music (on vinyls and cds) was lost when I moved away from my narcissist to ex husband. It was that or I might not been alive. I was so bad mental back then. I do miss the old times. Meeting up with people that shared intrests. And if I remember right, I didn’t think watching a movie was expensive on cinema, cause we watched a lot. Now it's bloody expensive! Thanks for sharing your thoughts John. Have a wonderful evening and cheers 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇

I got my first computer about 2000 and I remember the early days on the internet although I didn't get involved back then really, I did enjoy Myspace though a few years later, I think I also remember getting a full digital package with music and artwork for albums too , but for me to get no art or lyric's or anything would be a bit like finding a cd with a missing case and missing booklet and missing front and back covers in a charity shop. That's a shame you lost all your vinyls and cd's , sometime you have to put what is most urgent and important first , I have had a few very long term relationships in my life and one of them was bad so I can understand what you mean , I bet you are happy those days are gone. That's right it used to be quite cheap going to the cinema , I used to enjoy going with friends. Thank you and take care my friend 🖤🖤🦇🦇🖤🖤

Ha ha I remember working weekends as a kid, saving up for cassette albums. There was of course no guarantee that I would even like the album and I remember music magazines reviewing albums, trying to describe with words what the music sounded like. Travelling into town on the bus with my hard earned cash, sifting through music shops, the agonising decision making, which album to get? I like this band, this one has more tracks though, this has good reviews, but this one is rarer, but this is a classic, every fan should have this one, going back to the first shop, hoping nobody else had picked it up and finally sat on the bus on my way home looking at the artwork hoping I’d made the right decision. Now my daughter just asks Alexa to play whatever music she likes. 😂 There are probably people reminiscing about cds in the same way people do about cassettes and vinyl now. Love the video mate, I found it very interesting and it took me back, would like to see more stuff like this.

Thank you , I remember that feeling of excitement well , taking a chance on an unknown band , going by artwork , photos and song titles, I did this with a Misfits album legacy of brutality and its still a fave today , also Crass Christ the album which came in a box with a lengthy booklet (kept me busy) very different experience , Ive heard a lot of bands say audiences have become very tame and mild these days, maybe theres a lack of excitement and mystery about music these days and the crowds just ain't that pumped up and excited about events as they were pre internet . Never heard of Wim berries or Mucky Mouth Pie before, as my grandson always calls them blueberries, so if that makes him happy lol. We went to a 3 day Space Rock Festival and Blues in Wales for a canny few years and loved it, till they changed the venue (and the country to England) and it was just not the same, we lasted one more year and never been back. I always feel better outside than I do sitting indoors, always feel refreshed and nice and chilled out, cheers Alan

I have listened to a lot of different Goth KZbinrs and I specially Love listening to you on your rambling videos, but this video has at last made me leave a message and this is because of the two night clubs you mentioned. I was into the alternative music from the mid-eighties down in Kent and my favourite band being the Damned, thanks to hearing Grimly Fiendish (I was told by a friendly Punk, whatever I say about The Damned, always say I got into them with New Rose). Anyway I moved with a girlfriend to Salford in the early nineties, and The Banshees on (I think Saturday) and the Ritz on a Monday night were the nightclubs we went to. They were fantastic! It was at these nightclubs where I was first introduced to The Chameleons and Stone Roses' 'So Young' tune. Also I was introduced to Christian Death while going to the Banshees! I Love the Ritz where occasionally the last track was the Dam Busters theme tune. Thank you John for the reminder and please keep it up, they are great videos you make! I now live in Brighton where once a month Simon Price (from the Guardian) has a night called 'Spellbound' - Eighties music for those who hate eighties music... It's like old times! 🖤🦇

Look like really nice walking weather. And beautiful views too. Intresting history too. And yes, it can feel strange knowing what type of people walked there much, much earlier. Haha... That's my type of humor too! You should put down in description box what music you have in the video. Didn’t recognize the one today, but did love what I heard. Thanks for sharing John. Have a nice evening. Cheers 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇

Thanks , yes it was a great weather for walking sunny but not too hot , I really love a bit of history when walking, I will start adding the track info for songs I use, the one I used in the video was from some lyrics I wrote called Whoever you want to be, the music is computer generated on a song writing website called Udio , I have done many songs specifically for my channel on there , which I will make available for free download soon ,. I am also still working on a music/art project separate from my channel music , I have played and recorded the bass and guitar parts on these and the vocalist is still finishing his vocal parts on these songs when he gets time from the two jobs he does, but its going great. Hope you have a nice evening take care 🖤🖤🦇🦇🖤🖤

@@thehealthanarchist awww... That is even more awesome when you say the music is your own. I loved it and it's that type that once upon a time made me fall in love in Goth music. 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇

Once again a _VERY_ calming walk through my good friend. So calming. Also very intriguing to think about all of those wide open fields once held all of those Roman forts as well. History truly is all around us in several ways. 🦇🖤🎃

Thank you , it was a very calming walk , the main reason that I go out to these places, my mind is constantly deep in thought about the history of the area , I wonder what went on there in roman times from day to day and what their duties were and if there were any skirmishes and battles with the local celts. Take care my friend 🖤🖤🦇🦇🖤🖤

I love the 'dark' of the woodland! I love the way the light falls on the path and road in your video, its magical. Love the history of Stalybridge and the local area; that man who cleared it is a legend. Your right....I do like 'dark and gloomy' 🖤 ......how many Satanist's does it take to change a lightbulb?.................................none! let darkness reign.

Thanks Gilly , I love the shaded places in the summer or places you can disappear from the public when you want a bit of peace, that guy who has cleared it , I've seen him a few times , he is extremely quiet and introverted , I think he got made redundant I've been told and has used his time in such a positive way. It was an impassible bog up there for years. I'm actually thinking it would be cool to do a Halloween night walk up there with old school lanterns with a few mates to experience what it was like in places like that in the past, I agree let the darkness reign 🤣🤣, best wishes my friend 🖤🖤🦇🦇

Thank you again that you take us with you John. Im absolut a moorland and woodland walker... through all the year and all the weather. For me its the landscape im growing up. So, its not realy gloomy for me seeing it in good weather and summertime. But i can understand people that are a bit.... you know.... walking in woodland. As a child it was a enchanted place for me.... when the weather was to dark, ore the forest was so deep and dark.

Thank you , yes you have some excellent woodland areas in Germany .In the UK we only have small woodland areas really , I like moorland walks but really love the woodland in the Summer for shade , as I get an allergic reaction to sunburn , if I forget to use sunscreen. Hope hope you have a good week my friend 🦇🦇🖤🖤

Really nice walk again John. And what a job that guy did, to make the path better. And agree. It is medicine for the soul to walk in the nature. Specially when it's not crowded by others. Thanks again for another great walk. Have a fabulous weekend and cheers 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇

The only thing I was interested in at school was history absolutely fascinated me and could not wait for the history lesson every week. Its funny how those old roads are still there and still look pretty substantial, yet out modern roads are all covered in potholes. Great day to be out walking and the surrounding countryside looked great too, especially with it all being so quiet. I am always chilled out when I am walking in the outdoors and despite being a very social person, always happy with a very quiet walk, cheers Alan

Yes and I've noticed some of the little country roads vary from town to town, like you can be walking a road in an appalling state and when you cross over into another borough district the same road can become really well maintained . It can become very busy with people some days in that area so I was lucky. I'm also fairly social but I do enjoy a bit of headspace too , best wishes pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
