Thank you for this... having the test done in a few weeks and I've been really nervous... I've been dealing with gastroparesis for years and the ONE thing I have been terrified of is an NG tube....😣

Just had mine less then 2 hours ago,was going to have the sedation but I thought nope,il sooner face my fears, and I do not think it’s as bad as people are making it out to be,just take deep breaths,do as the doctor says and it’s over before you know it

Has everyone here been using it everyday consistently or did they miss days, and if so did they still see results?

From my understanding you’ll be ok to miss days here and there, although you should try to avoid that. It takes a few months to begin losing hair again after stopping

I was misdiagnosed with angina. I was under the cardiology department and had a CT scan to assess my heart and luckily was found to have no heart issues or blockages etc... but he did casually say that they did see a small hiatal hernia. I presented with shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, nausea, pain in the stomach, tingling down the left arm, sweating and a few trips to the ER beforehand. I still have these issues but have excessive burping (which I thought were a side effect of the beta-blockers I was put on) this is something I have never had before. I didn't know all of the digestive issues were associated with this. As years ago I developed issues with my throat. I sang in a choir and found (and to this day) I couldn't reach notes, I would begin to cough, my voice had no strength and was scratchy. I was told I had a nodule at first then had the camera down a second time to reveal LPR silent reflux, postnasal drip and sinusitis. I have had congestion most of my adult life. My mother was diagnosed with the same condition in her 50's like me so is there an hereditary component to this?

And This is why growing up in the 70s-80s was so much simpler and 1000x better. There was no internet/social media at your fingertips 24/7 to tell you that you are dying from 100000 different things. Things were simple then and not going 10000mph

I had a normal endoscopy but have spent two years unable to eat or drink most foods, been on PPIs for a year and a half but now my doctors are saying there are long term risks such as weak bones of being on them so they want me to stop them. Worried the NHS won't do a PH manometry test for me because I'm not "ill enough"

Many thanks for this brilliant & much-needed video, John - sadly seen too late as I had my gastroscopy yesterday without the conscious sedation. I'm definitely having sedation for the next one in 2 mths time. Being a mother in my late 60's I inevitably have various previous experience of hospital procedures & operations - I don't consider myself to be particularly anxious or squeamish. I found it deeply unpleasant (...a euphemism) - despite the truly wonderful staff whom I can't praise highly enough. I remember thinking at one particular point, I wonder if this will traumatise me & will I get 'flashbacks'? Today I'm ok, but if I'd been younger, perhaps slightly more anxious & with less experience of hospitals, maybe not. I'm not being funny when I say that even our cat was given this 'conscious sedation' when he had a very similar recent exploratory. To me it's incredible that in this age of medical & technological advances, that we're performing this barbaric and 'mediaeval' practice. Oh yes, I was there for a total of 3hrs (as they'd previously warned - they were busy so long wait times beforehand - & for me, not a problem at all) and during that time, I was the only muggins who didn't ask for sedation. I asked the nurse who explained my options beforehand whether he'd ever had one. He said he'd had 2 gastroscopies a few years ago - both times WITH sedation. That really should have flagged it up to me, but he was so reassuring that it was just 'slight pressure' & 'brief discomfort'. Begs the question, how would he know? Afterwards, the nurse who explained my results asked me why I didn't ask for sedation (?!) & whether it was because I had no one to collect me or stay with me afterwards (not the case). So, my advice is don't play the 'hero', or worry that you're inconveniencing them in any way - get sedation!

I have a an upcoming endoscopy due..not sure on the date yet but this will be my second time. The first time was horrid and traumatic experience, like John I had it with no sedation and i was gagging wrecthing and the 5 mins it was in felt like an eternity.. I couldnt swallow i was stressed.. I was pinned down by the nurses as I was trying to pull the scope out. It was awful. So now i have a new one coming up and this is absolutley terrifying me I havent been sleeping and my anxiety is currently through the roof. I 100 % will demand sedation and will not get it done again without it. I cannout bare the thought of going through it again without it.

I have terrible reflux with Hiatus Hernia and am in my early 20s and young like yourself. PPI does not seem to work for me and have taken them for 2 to 3 weeks with no improvement and the iqoro does not work. I have bad anxiety which causes it and nothing seems to work which has stopped me being able to do singing and I want to pursue singing and acting and this has stopped me being able to anything since a teenager. Any suggestions for constant reflux all day every day?

Hey, i tried combining something called acidil from boiron 15 mins before food and chew on gaviscon advance tablets till it turns to a syrup in my mouth and swallow it after food . Also, ppi 20 mg in the morning, if it increase the ppi to 40mg reflux gets worse, if I reduce it to 10mg it gets worse, so stuck with 20mg but still getting reflux everyday.

I’m having a double-colonoscopy and endoscopy same time. What the heck, worst part is the prep. Due for routine colonoscopy and having some heartburn often, so might as well. My doc said they never do these without sedation, ever.

I just had this done a few weeks ago without sedation (except the throat spray) and it wasn’t nice. The gagging was horrible but I had a polyp removed as well and had some mild gastritis. Prescribed 6 weeks of Lansoprazole

Had with and without sedation. Prefer no sedation. Especially for sth as quick as gastroscopy. If you want sedation, you gotta do blood tests beforehand, then after the sedation many people feel bad for half the day. Too much hastle. Without sedation, just went in, got some throat numbing spray. A bit of a gag reflex just at the beginning when they enter the tube, but after that nothing that bad. No pain. You just lay for 5-7 min and focus on breathing and that's it. You're done.
