Around the same time. Leiji Matsumoto also wrote 'Drifting Express 000' a parody to Galaxy Express 999.

it's not 'spiritual successor' it is a prequel. Note that the most 'canon' ending is manga.

The movie I saw had terrible dubbing. I was not aware that this series was 113 episodes! Whew. I used to play an arcade videogame using foottage from this series. I msy have to watch all 113 episodes one day.

#1 Laputa: castle in the sky simply as I'm a simple minded cheese poppin 80's action scifi flick dweeb. I also liked Spriggan and I think its has the coolest kid villain name ever, Colonel McDougal.
@AnimeTopScholar23 күн бұрын
I respect that. Hell I definitely enjoy me a good 80s action flick. Sadly Laputa just wasn't quite my cup of tea

For me, I liked Princess Mononoke, Princess Kaguya, and Only Yesterday most. However, I could not stand My neighbour Totoro. For me it was insufferable. Not to mention, as average as I find Ghibli films, I much prefer his earlier work in WMT series.
@AnimeTopScholar23 күн бұрын
WMT stuff is an absolute gem and something I want to explore a lot more. I can definitely see why someone wouldn't like Totoro. For me tho it's just an absolute vibe. Growing up in the countryside, there's parts of that movie that resonates with me a lot
@archangelarielle26223 күн бұрын
@@AnimeTopScholar which ones have you seen? Even though it's technically not a WMT anime, Nobody's Boy: Remi is my absolute favourite. Romeo's Blue Skies, Anne of Green Gables, Les Misérables, 3000 Leagues in Search For Mother, Swiss Family Robinson are my other top dogs. Treasure island is not one either, but very similar like Remi. They all just have so much feelings, and an atmosphere you just don't find nowadays.
@AnimeTopScholar23 күн бұрын
@@archangelarielle262 For now I've only really watched Anne of Green Gables and Moomin (tho Moomin was pre WMT). But I've got Remi, Heidi and Dog of Flanders on my list of things to watch. I'm also gonna be watching Remi for the podcast in the not too distant future

Idc y'all I absolutely adore Part 3, I recommend! The soundtrack imo is just so unique and I could listen to it all day. On top of that, I enjoy the characterization of our main gang in it, it can just let loose and be silly. (Also as a hardcore Goe fan I LOVE him in this series)

I could have that yeah. But honestly none of those movies look particularly interesting to me. Wouldn't really have done more for the video than to complete the list

Unfortunately, I thought 2202 was nowhere near as good as 2199, They should have hewed more towards Series 2 rather than Movie 2, imo. It wasn't terrible but there are some questionable decisions they made during the construction of the story. (Basically sidelining the newer crewmembers introduced in 2199, The Wave Motion Gun Spam, Desler's highly unbelievable "Redemption", and Yamamoto's plot armor for a few) Glad they righted the course, so to speak, in 2205, which I thought was great.
@rangergoosemanАй бұрын
The cool part about 2199, is they kept all the plot points from the original, even if the characters featured were different. Mutiny, check. I felt the Sunohara focused episode was a nod to the Space Storm episode from the Original, just as Yamamoto was the focus of the Gamilas Pilot Episode (and Melda was a great addition to the cast, Glad she got some Screen Time in 2205) among others

I have seen them both. As much as I love the original, 2199 is my favorite of the two. I absolutely love how they stuck to the original spaceship designs, just made them cooler and more detailed. The one thing I hated about the live action Yamato movie was the excessive artistic license they took when it came to the ships, and the Gamilons look like the Drej aliens from the movie Titan A.E.

Re:Zero is like the anti-isekai, where the background and knowledge of the protagonist is almost inconsequential in the new world, nothing is handed to him freely and every death is a painful lesson to remember. THAT episode in season one made it unforgettable, brutal was not enough of a word to describe it, it was almost on the level of End-of-Evangelion, something that is quite rare nowadays.
