So I tried this and when it goes into alarm, the board does not sound but when I short the the wire it goes off, but it causes a fault on the nac. What would cause this?
@DanTDMJace7 күн бұрын
you connected the relay on the mp3 to the nac, not the relay on the panel
@MatthewRhein7 күн бұрын
@DanTDMJace i have done that as well. Still have the same issue
@MatthewRhein7 күн бұрын
@DanTDMJace wait I misread this. That is not a good idea. Putting 24v into the mp3 board trigger might kill it as it already has 24v from the panel.

so if i hsve my homemade panel set to continuous and hook the power and trigger to the horn relay i can silence it right?
@HappyJiggАй бұрын
I think it's normally closed for supervision reasons. If it was hooked up to a relay exactly as you did, the alarms would start ringing when a wire got disconnected. I think the other NC contact is for "non interference", where each pull is wired through both the alarm contact and NC contact in series, so if two go off at the same time they don't code over each other. I think the lever inside also has something to do with this. Maybe different models had an electromagnet to pause the station while others were going off, so each would do its full round of coding. I know many Gamewell Master Boxes have that feature, and there is at least one video showing it off on youtube. Great video!

The tones of the alarm would battle if the Classic was on Filtered DC because the Electromechanical horn tone and the 3K Interrupted tone on the Classic have the same pitch has perceived to the ear, however the tone will produce a beating frequency because of their different programed frequencies as the L-Series on 3K will produce a beating frequency sound with the Classic on its Electromechanical horn and 3K Interrupted tone. This doesn't happen with the L-Series on its Electromechanical horn tone because it's a frequency sweep broadband sound that changes its frequency in a frequency bandwidth at a very fast rate which avoids interference as the tone isn't constant and instead moving in frequency to avoid interference with another tone and this is also just like in FM Radio as it sounds better and less prone to interference than AM Radio

I also have an old Edwards system still in my home, probably dating back to the 70s. A bit different than this one, don’t know too much about it. Moved here in the 90s, and it’s kind of always been there, does buzz a bit since it’s old and probably outdated. Would love more info on it
