Don't forget to take the material off of the bow. That material is to protect that part when you pack it up. Also neoprene spray skirts are waterproof whereas nylon skirts are not totally waterproof. Neoprene is better for edging

Make sure you guys practice incorporating your torso when you paddle instead of just your arms. Your mid section should rotate as you paddle. The main strength comes from your abdominal muscles rather than just your arms.

Great info from @vadimshayevich8748 The big thing I am seeing in addition to the hand/body position is the lack of good leg load and drive. You aren't using your legs to roll the kayak (not enough torso - hip - rotation). The body rotates around one axis from stern to bow (or bow to stern) and the legs rotate on another access from left to right or right to left around the kayak. That could be due to the lack of connection to the kayak.

I made myself a Greenland paddle. Didn't really have a wood carving experience. But it wasn't really hard and took about 6 hours. I really enjoy padding with it. It is also not that heavy, about 780gr for a 224cm long paddle (from red cedar).

Lower deck, narrower beam make a huge difference in roll progression. The other key is good outfitting in the kayak. My primary rolling kayak has a 20" beam and roughly 8" deck height. I still had to add a thick foam masik to give me the fit I needed to get the leg drive and rotational control. I have an Ilage coming and expect to add a bit more thickness to the masik as well. For comaprison, I am 5'9" and about 160 lbs. Keep up the good practice
@Fishaholicboy5 күн бұрын
Ooo.. good point. I may need to try a masik to get better connection with the kayak. I have an thick EVA foam pad which I think I can cut into shape. I haven't tried the Ilaga but I hear it's harder to roll than the Rebel. Have you tried both?

I have the same paddle float and a Greenland Paddle, but I was thinking of using a Euro paddle to start, especially when I heard your comment about "A snap". What are your thoughts, Euro or Greenland?
@Fishaholicboy20 күн бұрын
Thank you! Happy to hear you will start your rolling journey. I’m very biased on which paddle to suggest as I’m a GP fan. If you’re using a wooden GP, then I’ll be a bit cautious because I used a lot of pressure in the beginning when I tried to learn by myself. If you have the opportunity to take a class, you’ll learn the proper techniques and won’t stress out the paddle as much. BTW, the paddle I used where I heard the snap, it’s still working fine :)

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have used my DJI mini 3 pro for Kayaking for over 2.5 years approaching 100 trips and it has generally worked okay. When the water is reflective, it does sometimes lose tracking but I just have to lock it back onto us. Very occasionally, it will zoom in and out if I am tracking our kayak very close up but that happens very frequently. I was going to buy the Neo to also use for Kayaking but having seen your video, the Neo seems to very unreliable over water. I think it may work a bit better using a controller? However, it seems that the sensors on the Neo cannot cope with the reflective surfaces. You often times get on the water. Instead I will wait for the DJI mini pro 5 to be released and buy that as my next drone for Kayaking .

Yesterday I flew my dji neo drone for the first time, over land, near the beach, 5 meters from the sea and when activating the RTH from the RC control, when the drone was over me (near the water), more than three H or landing points appeared on the screen. Then the drone moved away over the sea, which was 5 meters from the Point of Origin, so I canceled the RTH and managed to make it return manually. But I got a good scare. Conclusion: It is not good to fly it over water, or near water.

I found this video super interesting, and I've been looking for something like this to see how the drone behaves in this kind of situation. Imagine I activate the follow mode, take off the drone, and go into the water, just swimming a bit, without going too deep, and also diving, then coming up again. I'd love to see a test like this, but without a life jacket or anything, just as if I were diving like at the beach, going for a dive, to capture some good footage of a swim and a dive close to the shore. I would really like to see that test.
