Take it off the wall? Easy. Pick it up to put in a bucket? Really messy and annoying, but also doable. Then you have to drag the heavy bucket, hard, and then you gotta wonder where you get rid of it, Impossible. Not exactly what you imagine when you think about digging yourself a bunker, but...

Hey lex . Weather in London has been rather pleasant, no Victorian smog lol. Sciatica didn't appear in the video I hope it was absent for you also. The sciatica is just a background annoyance now thankfully. The floor of the shaft will be gravel in its finished state since it will be the lowest point in the bunker and will house the pumps etc. The side tunnel entrance will branch off about 500mm above this.

Oh good, you are planning on going sideways! Clay is funny, solid clay will not allow water to travel through it. It just holds onto it's water. I'm in clay myself, but once I started to encounter some rock and gravel in it, here came the water! Sump it off and it comes running right back. Mine is very seasonal, I'm in a dry season right now and the sump is never running. So that means it's time to lower the sump and keep digging. Good times!

@@jagboy69 we don't get a dry season. I think I could dig down 20 metres and still be solid clay. The water gets in around the top of the bunker shaft and seeps down.

Lex you have come along way since last october! Going straight down is hard work! Your clay is perfectly miserable stuff and the never ending water is always a challenge. I know you want to hit 7meters down, but I was curious if you are going to expand out sideways once you reach the bottom? Next question I have is are you planning on having to pump water forever? Hopefully you have seen some of the water proofing membranes I've experimented with that bonds to the back of concrete. The all white stuff is very cheap from china, but I had no luck with them dealing with me. Today I have 2 rolls of the p20 which will go down right before I pour concrete. For now, I've been excavating a section for the largest sump you have ever seen. I'm using 15" dual wall black pipe and the plan is for it to die in the hole as I won't be able to access it. It's only job is to hover the water level in 12" of gravel below my floor which will be 12" thick concrete. It took a lot of buoyancy calculations to come up with that one. Yikes! Keep digging buddy! Oh, how wide is your bunker shaft?
@LexsBudgetBunkerBuild
@LexsBudgetBunkerBuild 2 күн бұрын
@@jagboy69 yes I most definitely plan on going sideways once I have the shaft finished. Regarding the water, I will continue trying to stop it getting in but otherwise I will just pump it out. Been thinking of maybe going deeper and having the bottom part of the shaft as water storage. I am hoping that water won't be making it into the side tunnel.

Just a mad idea - from someone with no background in this sort of thing.. I remember cutting clay with cheese wire back in school. So, would a L shape plank, with spikes down the long in-side, layed down & under cut with a wire pull out perforated rooftile sized slabs. Looks like really nice clay, it may just contain enough natural grog not to crack. I don't know all that much about clay, it could be one of many minerals & some don't fire well, bentonite for example is best used for cat litter. fascinating project.

Nice work. Stoned in the workshop, if you didn't say I'd never know. One design improvement I can think of is the float switches, have them mounted on angle inside the tub. As they currently look vulnerable to damage, as the tub gets put in deeper sumps as you continue to dig. Shortcut to cleaning the filter ,rotate it 90 or 180 degrees as the bottom section will be doing most of the work.
