Get yourself down to Teuchtars Landing down in Leith. Order the big Scottish breakfast. You won’t eat for the rest of the day.

Nice breakfast there Rog - reminded me a bit of the Transport for Wales breakfast on their premier service between Manchester/Holyhead and Cardiff. I guess it’ll have to be somewhere else then for me when i eventually get back to Edinburgh. On the flip side, I had one of the WORST cooked breakfasts ever last week in Fishguard: one sausage, one rasher of bacon, one egg, mushrooms and a tomato. It was absolutely abysmal! Great video mate 👍.

It’s Forster square and I really don’t think the good people of Bradford will let the standards of the hotel slip as most of us love the place. The best part of the hotel is the grand ballroom and the chandelier in there

Thanks. Sadly the ballroom was locked and in darkness when I was there. ☺️

Your "vegetarian haggis" looked and by your description, sounded more like a slice of fruit pudding. A nice wee sweet change to a full Scottish, but if you can get it, clootie dumpling is even better than fruit pudding. It's like, hash brown's are okay, but you'd rather have a tattie scone.

So sad to see places like this close down, I can see the owner is concentrating on doing outside catering. Looked a fabulous place. On a side not have you tried Stornaway Black Pudding? I am aware it has some kind of protection status, presumably it has some extra ingredients or something that makes it special.. I am aware it must be produced within the town boundaries of Stornaway to be legally labelled

Great review, I stayed at the Midland in February of last year, Used a Groupon voucher and some other Groupon deal, and ended up getting a superior Kings room with breakfast for two for only £100, these prices have seemingly skyrocketed for this year, I found the room to be well decorated and classy and those high ceilings were something I wish to see in other hotels but this was pre-renovation and we did run into some issues, the light in the bathroom was flickering constantly, the grouting clearly hadn't been done in a while and little bits of cement was all over the bathroom floor which wasn't nice after a shower, the door handle for the bathroom was also coming off. It didn't help that at 3am the fire alarm went off causing a building evacuation leaving me and my partner stuck outside in the rain with our pj's on. this being said Midland did recompense me after making a complaint and so in total, I ended up only paying £60 for the night so really happy with the outcome, I am surprised you didn't visit the swimming pool which also included a sauna, salt sauna, thermal showers and a jacuzzi, they also offered spa treatments however we did not opt for that. The two arches at the front of the hotel were originally for horse carts to come in and come out.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I just didn't have time to ger to the swimming pool and the Spa. Maybe next time. 😀

I can remember the diesel three carriage trains being noisy and very overcrowded, but took the train from Lockerbie to Glasgow this year and it was far less crowded in standard, the train was on time and it was faster and electric. Only downside was the train rattled at speed. Otherwise TPE is a lot better than it was and the return fare wasn't too bad at £24.90.
