I did a solve for the issue with the sharp side could be either on the straight or curved side. Placed a red dot on the handle for the curved ones and a green dot for the straight ones.

Suppliers in Canada are selling this tool for about $250.00 I like both the Carving Jack 2.0 and the Pocket Jack 2.0 with the Pocket Jack being my preference. Totally agree that a V tool on a straight shaft would be a huge improvement. My original Carving Jack allowed me to leave wood spirits and little characters on trails and bike paths from BC to Nfld. ❤😂 Thanks for the update.

I have one. I agree about the v-tool not being user friendly. I got mine as a gift but for the price I probably wouldn't spend my money on it.

I guess the gouges have been designed that way for safety reasons. In the actual position you push the gouge against the backlock, if you had a straight gouge when you push it into wood it might close on you and hurt you.

Alex, in your opinion, what is the BEST European carving knife on the market?

Great video! I learned a lot in your channel, thanks Alec! , I'm beginner and my question is if knifes can be sharp with Arkansas stones or is better use strops

I think the reason flexcut tools don't compare to premium European tools is a marketing choice with flexcut trying to provide you with the best value at an entry level price rather than the best tools they can make at a high price. I thought behind scorp style gouges is that you'll often use the whittling jack in remote locations and it's easier to control the scorps making injury less likely.

Thanks Alec for the review, For me ? I do not think that i would go ahead and buy this tool. The straight blade, the Pelican look just fine 🙂 👍 but the v tool, scorp, & spoon type blade i would not be happy with at all, why ? Basically you have to draw them backwards to your none carving hand ✋️ would much prefer push style in the interest of safety. Also while you were carving as you we're talking, yes I am listening to you but did notice that, the cut did seem as though the blade was not that sharp 🤔 and not cutting very efficiently ?? Was you a bit tentative/ conscious that you were drawing the blade towards your left hand ??? All in all a good honest review. As for carving/ whittling while out walking in the woods or local park ?? I will stick to my little 1 3/4" pocket knife. Cheers mate, All the very best. Les.

A traditional pocketknife/ folding tool should be straight blades only & the palm handle, fixed blade chisel's & gouges has been & should remain the supplemental tools for the whittling woodcarver, in their long handle & mushroom styles!!!

Thanks Alec for the update, I bought a 2.0 recently and enjoy using it when on trips etc as its easier to pack than my regular tools. I got the left hand version (I’m a righty) so I could push the V tool, works pretty well.

If they make a 3.0 with straight gouges/v-tools, a finer detail knife, and maybe even wood scales instead of metal, I would 1000% buy one. It really would encourage me to carve on outdoor adventures more because its just so effortless to bring along compared to a tool roll

Hey Alec, I like this style for a bear! Thanks for the video. I am wondering what brand is that knife? It doesn't look like a flexcut...maybe a beavercraft? I am just curious because it is a thick blade and doesn't really look like a detail blade. Also might consider using that sharp knife to sharpen your pencil! 😂

I noticed anothet difference. According to my observations women tend to have slightly more rounded coushion of fat tissue above the upper eyelid towards temples. This is more obvious when eyes are opened and less obvious when eyes are closed. It is especially true for younger women.
