I wish I knew you were coming to Montana i would have loved to meet you and your wife. Maybe next time we can setup a class for local woodcarvers

Very cool! In Alaska we have tons of fallen trees but we can also harvest wood in certain areas :) Great video, thanks.

Tree protection laws are very strict in the UK. Despite Lime/basswood being native here, it only seems to grow in parks and cities- from what I've heard, the easiest is to just bribe a tree surgeon with a packet of biscuits. Same is broadly true for ash, those things come down all the time now and they usually just throw the wood in the chipper.

I live in Chehalis Washington right between Seattle and Portland. We have an enormous amount of Black Cottonwoods in the valleys west of the Cascades...often times they are considered a nuisance and hazard as they grow fast and big coupled with eroding lowlands= the obvious. That being said, is black cottonwood the same as the bark you are harvesting in the video?

Question? Do you sell and ship bark?
@AlecLaCasseArt4 ай бұрын
@@gentlebear2722 I do not generally sell the bark!

After you find it, how do you store it-straight into your workshop or somewhere separate in the event there may be bugs traveling along? I’m always a bit hesitant. 😅
@AlecLaCasseArt3 ай бұрын
I store it in a pole barn.

I've scavenged every cottonwood in central Ohio! Not as good as the plains cottonwoods but got set me pretty good pieces.

That tree your harvesting is so old. Thats the problem, they are rare and hard to find. You got lucky on that one.
