His feet are 4 feet apart and he shifts his weight, that's the same as a stride.

I’ve been lining up my knuckles and started craving the ball lately. I’m even driving balls into right field as a righty. When I line my knuckles up, it brings my elbows together which slows my arms not to drift away from my body. I have the back alone tucked more.

Started using no stride going into my varsity junior year of hs and went from 3 hits in first two seasons to batting almost .400 with 15 hits and 10 rbis. If you’re considering switching to no stride, do it.

does it seem like in this swing he doesn't get his back half engaged as much and he is a little heavy on the front side?? seems he got a lot of weight on the front foot and wasn't able to engage his hips as much.. not an expert here just asking

I have switched my swing exclusively to no stride in the spring after being frustrated with not hitting the ball hard consistently. Best change of my life… I feel like I have more power with not striding in my swing

This is the best video explaining “why” a [no stride] can be effective in all levels of the game. It’s definitely an advantage like Ron says. I’m finding it advantageous in my current career!

No argument here, I actually agree with you :) Way too many words. Never found a great way to communicate here on KZbin. If I was a better communicator I would probably make more than 1 or two videos a year.

@@RonSullivanHitting Bullshit. I am a pro instructor that has worked with players from 6 yrs old to numerous MLB guys. "Using too many words" is not the porblem of the talker, it is the problem with the listener. That is such an issue these days. It is crucial that a good teacher thoroughly explain not only what, but WHY things must happen. That takes a lot of words especially on topics that are complicated and not understood. If too many of the words are unnecessary than yes, that is no good. But when the words spoken are crucial, then they must be spoken. So to the commentor, LISTEN to every word and understand what he is saying and why he is saying them. Teaching human body movements along with kinetics and physics is not ordering McDonalds. You want a cheap burger made in 30 seconds or a top notch steak that takes 15 minutes to cook?

Launching forward moves the head and the weight should stay on the back foot to keep back so your not destroyed by off speed pitches. If this kid keeps this swing, a steady diet of breaking pitches is in his future. The upper half mechanics look flawless. He’s 75 percent to perfection!

Mine stays with hands in close and slices the ball worse than golfer! And it all started "tryn" hit with some power as tiny 6th grader in middle school ball with 7th and 8th graders...field went from 60 ft bases to 80!

This video is incorrect. - Pull heavy hitters happens for a different reason. - Scissoring happens because of another reason. If you want the answer, It’s in the Video’s. Heal to heal weight transfer causes the scissor. Notice the limited hip turn. Gallow, like T. Williams, Griffey Jr., Bonds, Gwynn, And many great hitters. Used toes- to-toes. Weight transfer. Even young Trout did it.
@McDroogy3
@McDroogy3 Жыл бұрын
There is another element to this as well. The back kick (scissor) is a balance mechanism that the nervous system is engaging to kick the hitter from falling. With all the power, there would be no way to avoid falling over without a counter lever. It isn’t intended or conscious but a by product of a lot of power around the axis. Our nervous system is designed to keep us safe and keep us vertical. Great video!

I've watched countless videos trying to fix my 2 boys' "bat drag" issues & yours are by far the best at explaining the root of the problem! This drill with a high, inside tee position & having them try to hit low line drives at the 2nd baseman sounds perfect!...I'm taking them outside right now to work on this! Thanks a million!!

Hey Coach, Great explanation of the use of ground force and how it impacts the rotation of the swing! Would the manual spinning of the hips also cause the batter to pull off the ball? I have a tendency to do this spinning action and I struggle to hit the outside half as well as off speed pitches. Thanks Coach.

Thanks for the content. I agree that the young lady overdoes the back elbow leading, but I think there are tons of examples of truly great hitters who do not slot the bat at all like Correa. Correa has the back elbow clearly behind the hands at all times during the slotting action. To me this means he'll have to tilt a bit to get the bat behind the ball and on plane. Conversely, the real greats like Ruth, Williams, Aaron, Griffey Jr. and Trout pretty much all have the elbow and hands in line half way down. To me, you are showing "a way" to swing down from the top, but in my opinion the way some modern players like Correa, Bregman, etc do it is not the only way nor is it the best most powerful way. I'd love to know your thoughts.

What do you think about your fellow KZbinr hitting guru Jaime Cevallos. He would say the left side approach is the correct way to do it.
@RonSullivanHitting
@RonSullivanHitting Жыл бұрын
I don't think that the appearance of what is happening on the left is always wrong. However I do think in terms of approach at a ball sitting still it shows a player that will lack adjustability in their overall approach and fundamentally doesn't understand what "get inside the ball" is.

True you used the word pop my father was a hard hitting minor leaguer in the 50s ok got a number of records in California League players agreed he should have been in bigs ok after playing he worked for Giants and was called upon working with hitters he was a top hand hitter worked for Giants 23 yrs one winter meeting all the scouts were there all ex players they had a lot of respect for my father he was talking about everything you just described at that moment Frank Robinson walked by and said that's right if you can't do that you can't hit. Now some guys such as George Brett pull through Albert Puolis says he is but notice usually right hand thrower left hand hitter or extra big guy such as Mark Macquire or Puolis those big guys like that extra strong and it seems like they don't coordinate their legs with swing as good as some outstanding hitters 5'9 to 6'1 such as that of course always exceptions Mark mcquire is interesting to me his legs don't seem all that coordinated in baseball swing but what a golf swing

You are awesome at explaining the “why” behind the function of a proper swing. I was a natural as a youngster and just starting to coach my 8 and 9 year old nephews so I haven’t fully understood why I do what I do. I just needed small tips from coaches in my years to improve upon good foundation. But to get the understanding of it all is such a blessing. You are a true guru. And I’m sure my nephews will thank you in the future lol

What about this take a look at a golf swing particularly Ben Hogan he deweights his front foot I like the feeling of turning belt buckle into back heel whether you lift leg or not baseball now to max out as Hogan pointed out you want to use INSIDE muscles very important I have found in a so called no stride baseball swing the stride foreward is inside of front foot this activates a lot of stuff go back and look at Ruth go to now look at Mookie look at Hogan to will see a bump in front hip and a leaning angle in back leg look your example same of course there is to swing BUT sequence is important you can move your hands and arms great through zone but if your stride or no stride was a stomp no good Tony Olivia pointed this out years ago and then the left kick came in on the swing of Kirby Puckett and sidaharra Oh ok they did not Stomp Olivia pointed that out he was Pucketts hitting coach liked your video

Over the last couple weeks, I have been consuming your videos and re-fitting some of these drills for disc golf purposes with great veracity. It is incredible how well you explain these core movements of the lower half and connection with the kinetic chain overall. So well, that it has drastically improved my consistency and power in a completely different sport. Disc Golf is a newer sport that doesn't have nearly the level of detail or understanding of the form that baseball does (and certainly less versed coaches) and I did not have a strong athletic background, so I needed to go back to basics. The final step of a backhand disc golf throw shares a striking familiarity with a baseball swing and many of the top Disc Golfers transitioned from a baseball background, so it made sense for me to seek out this information. Thank you for putting out this understandable and easy to implement content! - From a 30-something trying to figure out what "be more athletic" actually means
