You should go over a few facts first like they can still fly, makes it easier to lose them and harder to recover, they can't escape danger or exercise the way their body was designed, this is a false sense of security, it causes psychological trauma, muscle loss, degenerates organs that can lead to sudden death. If you don't want or can't handle a flying animal, get a different pet.

Ppl saying this is animal abuse in the comments are the same ppl that lost and will loose their birds early on, either from flying alway and dying alone in the wilderness, flying in a hot pot on the stove or flying at full speed to a wall and breaking their necks, now let me ask you this: which one is more abusive, preventing all of that from happening and letting your bird roam free and safely through the house, or having them suffer one of those ends or just live locked up in a cage their whole life? Think about it people, if you're not clipping your birds wings, YOU'RE most probably the animal abuser here
@akademesanctuary13612 ай бұрын
Not true. If you follow 911 parrot alert you will notice nearly all the lost birds were clipped. They can still fly clipped. It makes it easier to lose them and harder to recover, they can't escape danger or exercise the way their body was designed, this is a false sense of security, it causes psychological trauma, muscle loss, degenerates organs that can lead to sudden death. If you don't want or can't handle a flying animal, get a different pet. Teach recall especially from a height.

These comments are ridiculous. Birds that can fly are 100% idiots. Doesn't matter how big the space is they will crash into walls/windows and they will attempt to fly to you while you cook potentially landing in oil or boiling water. If you don't clip their wings the only safe way to own them is in a cage 24/7 which is cruel. Clipping their wings lets them be out of their cage safely and be given perches in multiple rooms to hang out with you. Also since they aren't getting exercise from flying outside they gain exercise from climbing around their enclosure. If they accidently escape the house there is almost 100% chance they get eaten.

Came here to oearn how to clip my birds (i have 6) and was not disappointed with these comments. To the karens and cry babies on this video, oet me break something down for you: When you domesticate a bird, 80% of it's insinct goes goes out the window (like it will if it can fly) If you have dogs like i do, they can fly to your dogs, spook your dogs, and cause your dogs to injure them or even worse KILL them. They could fly into ceiling fans chopp8ng their little heads off (heard this story way too much) Or so many other things. Stop comparing how you treat your bird to how others treat theirs. Not everyone has the ability to compromise every little aspect of their life to adhere to their birds. Qll of my birds are happy and healthy being clipped as they get plenty of play time and social time. P.S. before you say "well lock your dogs up so your birds have a safe place". Why? So my dogs become filled with separation anxiety because some karen on the Internet was unhappy? GO TOUCH GRASS.
@akademesanctuary13612 ай бұрын
We have a kiddie fence so the dogs don't trample birds, steal toys or get into dangerous food items. The birds stay on their side. They aren't stupid. We've been cage free unclipped since 1980. Don't abuse the bird because you lack understanding or self restraint.
@Booger6969Ай бұрын
@@akademesanctuary1361 LMAO just now seeing your karen reply You obviously did not read my comment plus you came looking to defend your "ways'. I'm not locking my dogs up ANYWHERE for ANYTHING just because I have birds. All of my birds came from a local store who has been in business for 40+ years and even THEY recommend clipping as birds get into everything. You wanna live by logic and say clipping is "abuse'? alright, well owning a bird in general is ABUSE. Birds are meant to be free and fly, but yet you've owned some since the 80's. So the logic behind you karens are ridiculous. Get a life and worry about YOU. Plus, a bird living in captivity no longer has 'free will', so the argument that they need to free fly is invalid. If it did imply, Take your birds to their natural habitat/country of origin and release them as keeping them away from that is also abuse. have a good one :)

I have 7 birds, 6 are budgies, one is a cockatiel. Please do not clip your birds wings. If it’s to “stop them from running into windows” theirs bird harnesses for that. My cockatiel has a harness, and he’s fine. Also it’s not like cutting a humans nails or hair, because unlike clipping a birds wings, it doesn’t take away a body function that’s kind of their whole thing…? Getting a pet that flies and taking away it’s ability to fly is kinda cringe tbh. Also, the clipping process isn’t painful, sure, but it’s extremely stressful and will cause the bird to pick at the feathers which leads to plucking the feathers. Clipping a birds wings is also very dangerous if you have other household pets like dogs or especially cats. Just don’t do it, it’s dangerous and harmful to the birds health, there are alternatives. Look into those instead. Also, if birds fly into the windows a few times, they’re most likely new to their surroundings. They’ll eventually recognize it’s a window and stop. Windows are fine, but it’s your fault if you get a bird and don’t take the steps to bird proof their living space. Honestly.

It’s definitely not animal abuse, especially if it’s not hurting them, but I feel like instead of clipping their wings to protect them, you could just train them. Since you’re taking the time to actually clip their feathers you can just train them, plus it would just last longer since you wouldn’t have to do it more than once. And it’s also bonding time with your adorable baby.

I grew up with birds due to my grandparents having a macaw,two African Grey‘s,Amazon and smaller species like budgies, love birds and maybe cockatiels. As for what owned I owned budgies as a kid due to me being g terrified of the bigger species. I now own a female cockatiel since 2015. I never had an issue with her apart from her being loud but it’s very rare similar to the pionous. I wonder if I would be ready for a Pionus or should I get another Cockatiel since I do own one but I moved out of my parents that’s neither here or there. Yesterday it gave me the urge to get a new bird but what I look after. Anyhow yesterday she nibbled on my finger I never handled her or came into contact and she was first afraid but I gave her time and let her come to me and she did.
