Whoa is she a dyed in the wool guitarist. Because most people would recognize that tuning as bass tuning -- guitar without the b-e'. (psst -- bassists: she's telling you that you can play the Battle of Evermore on bass. I"d advise a pitch shifter tho -- otherwise you're just going to sound like Lemmy.)

Anybody that can play that knows harmonics, please.

I would have sworn it was John Paul Jones. But you're right, it was Jimmy that did the mandolin on this one.
@Katerina925619 сағат бұрын
@ElSantoLuchador I've had plenty of people vehemently argue that with me...even after seeing live video of LZ performing the song, with Jimmy of course on mando and JPJ on guitar. One dude said "well they must have switched parts for that performance". 🤣

Army buddy back in '80 who was from Seattle, told me that the wilson sisters used to baby sit him. His last name was moon. He was a medic, myself and Shellerup, my PC driver spent the night telling scary stories. Who cares, right?

That looks like a damn expensive instrument with all the gorgeous inlays.
@Katerina92563 күн бұрын
@user-zt2wc3uh1l Actually it's a Japanese copy of a Gibson, possibly made by Ibanez, that she's had since the 70s. I've never seen her with one other than that one. So it would not have been particularly expensive but what a great mandolin...that was a lucky find!

She plays Battle of Evermore so much better than Jimmy Page. Amazing talent.
@Katerina92563 күн бұрын
@joshuamorrison8332 ...well, she did spice it up a bit in certain places and plays it a little rougher than Jimmy, which makes it fun to play. Jimmy wrote it the first time he ever picked up a mandolin (which was JPJ's) so it's perhaps a little more simplistic but way more ethereal sounding, which lends itself perfectly to the original vibe of the song. I'll take it either way 😄
@joshuamorrison83323 күн бұрын
I worded my post poorly. I wasn't trying to run Jimmy down I just wanted to say how Nancy has ridiculous knowledge of theory and music history, combined with with skill and good taste. You just don't often see all of that in one package.
