Did you allow for the dip of the pan ? Redrill it . The pan is a pan they will be looking at leather . Try it in a couple spots . They have copper washers odds are they will cover up the Boo Boos in the Pan . And wont even see them . 👍

There is no better way to keep a low profile on a seat than to cover the seat pan with leather. However, I don't think a tractor seat would look very good on my Sportster. However, for trips? You have me thinking here, Mr. Butler.

My mother just gave me my father's 83 v65, heartbreaking that he is battling dementia so can no longer longer ride, Its been sitting since 92 cause life got in the way, its inside for all but about 2 of those years, I have great memories of him picking me up from elementary school on it, I plan to restore it. I have some health issues to check out but if all goes well will have to learn to ride first, then graduate up to a bigger one should take a couple years and bikes I'm planning to take me time learning to do is safe and when I'm good the mag wile be ready to ride occasionally. stay safe.

I’m going to put a new motor mount in. Should say different motor mount, I put a very ridged mount in last week and the vibration is actually worse through 2 nd gear. This method of not jacking up the engine is great and I truly appreciate this technique and information. But I may have moved the motor out of line or possibly went to far jacking it up last time. I’m hoping the correct mount solves my problem. Can you do a video on fuel tuners ? Or maybe talk about them ? Thank you.

I just got a 92’ Fatboy as a project. Most of the bike is there, but engine is not original to the bike and is not in the bike. I want to try and get this thing going eventually, but first I want to know if this engine is any good. Where to start… Is there a way to see if the engine will turn over while out of the bike ? Or do I have to install it. Any advise is appreciated. I do most of my own maintenance on my 2 other bikes, both twin cams, and have worked on an old Shovel and rebuilt a sportster years ago.

Great question. You can test a motor out of the frame with a stand designed for it or with the trans and primary mounted to the motor with the starter installed. But that’s a lot of work just to test a motor. Off the bike you can crank the motor over by hand or with power tools to check compression.

Man I had the same problem with my old 63 Pan years ago. But it was the negative ground wire kept coming out of the fitting causing the the bike to stop running. It happened for 11 Miles in a construction zone with no place to pull off. It would cut out I would downshift and bump the motor. Run a little and happen again. Finial got to pull off at a rest area. Saw the wire hanging in the 6 volt batt box. Replaced the fitting and away I went. Rode from KY to Iowa and back. Dam I miss that Pan.

Clean the tip on a damp sponge,if the copper is dull and black you can stroke wire wool over the stripped end to remove the oxide. Tinning the ends with ersin multicore before trying to join them will give you the best chance with old wiring that's had a hard life. Low residue solder or lead free is only any good for squeaky clean circuit boards.
