To be honest I never understood so much why people say it's such a long game. From my experience it's around 1 hour orn1 hour and 15 minutes per player. Not so bad 😊

Absolutely agree. I've never played Oath, but I always wanted to. The thing is that I've heard it's good during a few games with the same group. So that kind of prevented me from buying it.

If you don't intend to play solo mode, core game is definitely enough. For 2 players, I recommend adding Dahlgaard's Gifts expansion (it's a small one that is not expensive)

Haha if you hate the core mechanism of the game? I can't really say.. probably you won't? The thing here is that you will be able to do all the actions you want, but depends how 'strong' they will be. I say it in general because there are some small exceptions.

Hahahahaha Look, it's an investment.. so think about it. Watch some videos. I also did a playthrough with all expansions and components. One thing I recommend if you get this game.. get it with the Titans of the First Age.

Great question! Next year I'll do another video for 4X games, revisiting old once and talking about others, including Eclipse 2nd Dawn. But until then, I can day that it is a very cool game, a true 4X! My main problem with it is that the tiles are not balanced. That means that some tiles are just useless compared to others, and losing an action when you've explored a 'bad' tile is very painful especially in the early stages of the game. Does that make sense? 😊

And i agree (this + the random rewards that can sometimes be over powered, like free missile...) i guess this randomness is part of the ameritrash side of the game but it is very disapointing (even unfair !) for more euro gamers. I also guess there are some houserules to balance that but it sucks....

Yeah! Exactly! And in general I'm not against house rules, but sometimes it feels stupid that we, the consumers, need to correct the mistakes of the designers. And if the unbalanced issue is not an accident, then I fear there's a problem with the initial design of the game. The other aspects of the game I like very much. Especially the tech tree element.. upgrading the ships is awesome!!

@@ezbgames yes sir! It's called All Good Things and should print/ship in Q1 2025 according to the lates GMT update. Also if you have not yet pulled out the existing Replicators expansion, it includes full art hex tiles. So if you explore a meteor sector, for example, once you reveal the little meteor counter you replace it by a full hex tile with matching art. Really improves the table presence on this game.

Not sure if you're really asking of this is some sort of a clever comment I'm just not getting 😅 D.E.I is an area control control game of different factions fighting for territories, outposts and resources. It has an open market and also shared Drones (another type of unit in the game) that players can move with cards.

I am actually pleasantly surprised that a 2015 games remains your favorites. This is not only a testament to the game itself, but also encourages player (like myself) to no necessarily fomo or follow the cult of the new. You got me intrigued in Trickerion, but the 60-180min play time and 4.25 weight on BGG tempers my curiosity at the moment. How difficult is it to table the game after non playing it for a while?

Try to see if you can get a copy of Dark Ages for a decent price first. Clash of Cultures is on retail so shouldn't be a problem there in the future. And it doesn't matter for Dark Ages which box you'll get. Whatever is cheaper- Holy Roman Empire or Heritage of Charlemagne. I bought the first one for about 90€ 2nd hand and the other for 75€ new in shrink. Keep me posted please 😊

Space Empires 4x is amazing and I agree 100% with your take about the secret "upkeep/technologies", it's very easy to break the game if someone makes a mistake and start to steam everyone with that 🤣 Finally got the Dark Ages! 😁 Now I need to play it and seeing your feedback about the solo mode makes me curious to try it solo My top3 games this year are Arcs, Andromeda's Edge and Shackleton Base Merry Christmas my friend!

For Company of Heroes you're looking at 15 minutes maximum. With the trays it is super fast. For Trickerion I'd say about 20 minutes because of the different cards. But nothing too crazy.. Thank you so much for watching the video and commenting ❤️❤️ Merry Christmas

Rules Question: Say a region has a value of one for difficult terrain and a battle commences. During the "Fight for Terrain" phase one side dumps all their main battle cards into the combat during this phase and take no damage, then place all those main battle cards under their general which makes them safe. As there are no more "Fight for the Terrain" battle phases can the opponent then roll dice for each of the cards in their hand and try and kill the safe units underneath the general? Or is it automatically a tie?

I'm wondering how it will be possible to spend all of your MBC cards in Fight for Terrain if that value is 1? The units under the general are vulnerable only during this phase (if one side keeps sending units and another side doesn't have anything else). After that those cards under the general are completely safe and if one side is out of cards, that combat will end. Since I am no expert in the game, I highly recommend joining the Discord of this game. The community is. O less than amazing and super helpful

I can't remember exactly, but in general, it's a region you start the game with (it has the color of the faction around the name). There are also some rules regarding combat when you invade or being invaded to a home region.

Excellent video and great explanations, what i will say is the base game battle mode is pretty bare bones and boring but the game combined with the battleplay expansion makes the battles very dynamic and interesting, definitely worth getting the expansion!

I have pledged on Gamefound for the Deluxe edition of 'Gates of Niflheim'. I chose Escape from Stalingrad Z Deluxe as an addon (together with the 2 paint sets). Now that they're doing a 'reloaded' version of Stalingrad on Gamefound I asked about the difference between the new one and the one I'm waiting for. Marco himself replied to me and also asked me to email him because, while Stalingrad is an existing stock item, Niflheim isn't shipping until May/June 2025, so I would have to wait until then for both games. He set it up with Gamesquest to send out my Stalingrad + Paint sets immediately. Awesome game creator 😎👍

Hmmm I can't find Steam Watchers at BGG. I have: Ankh Hegemony (unplayed) Cthulhu Wars (unplayed) - With the exact same expansions + The Ancients I love Blood Rage (A friend have it) So mixed feelings watching this vid. =P Blood Rage: I kinda like that the drafting is so important and "tight" but a few more cards in the decks would not hurt I guess. It is a bit disapointing that is is easier to win by loosing than buy winning. Or I have not find the perfect cards for winning by winning. ;) Especialy since 1 of the Loki cards punish the winner of a battle so much and the loser get's to keep that card. So you really ned to trick that player with that card that you really want to win a battle so he playes that and you instead try and lose it so that card will go away. But usualy the player with that card sees that it is a chance that he will lose his card and just chose to not play it. So yes, the Loki strat is OP but then it is up to the players to get a few of those for oneself so the players that allways go for Loki strat can't get the super OP combos. Hate drafting is big in this game in my group. ;) Ankh I like cause at first glance it seems to be just like Blood Rage but it is so very different. It's more based upon positioning and timing. So you need to think a bit different in that game. I like that there are a few cards that rewards losing battles but as you said everyone has the same cards and it is not over rewarded.

First of all, thank you for watching the video and commenting. I appreciate it a lot! Yeah, with Blood Rage it's exactly what I thought! For me it was just disappointing and felt that in this game losing rewards you more than winning. Also the 'hate' draft not because you need a card, but simply because you don't others to have it (usually, the Loki strategy). So in my own personal opinion this game doesn't live for the hype behind it. With Ankh I'm willing to admit I might have been a bit too quick to pull the trigger of culling it. Further down the line I might get it again just to make sure..

Can I be honest? I have zero motivation to check it out. From what I saw, the combat expansion can be kind of played as a stand alone. While I agree that combat seems a bit weirs/complicated, there is some interesting depth there that requires some getting used to. I know it didn't really answer the question. Sorry about that. But truly I don't see myself checking it out any time soon.

Really dislike WOTR, i like the streamlined version in Dune but i can't quite find the same Epic feeling that i get in SWR (BUT dune is so much quicker to setup and play...). Waiting for the KS exclusive expansions to try them and see if i keep Dune !

It will be interesting to see how this game plays out. Things have come full-circle - given how the strategy part of the original Shogun Total War was heavily based on the board game Shogun/Samurai Swords.
