I would like to own one of the original K1 Bikes, the look back then was a poster bike a a youth. I now run a K1300s as a daily, whatever you think about modern BMW's this is a fantastic bike in my opinion.

A 1990 K1 turns up once in a great while. They sell for about what I paid for mine new back then!

I put a lot of miles on my 1985 K100RS before it got totaled by an inattentive driver who rear-ended me at a traffic light. Quickly replaced by a 1991 version, complete with ABS brakes that always seemed to be in "failure" mode. Put a lot of miles on that one too until one day the fuel pump finally gave in to the ravages of ethanol-laced gas. It's gathering dust now but one of these days I'll get her back on the road. I think it will complement my R100GSPD.

Steve, Your 91 has the most reliable anti-lock brake system that BMW produced... ABS I. This design is simple and easy to diagnose and being old but not gold, relatively easy to still find parts for and affordably! www.beemerboneyard.com when you're ready to dust that old girl off, Chris

Yes, but it was not to be. The K75 model's sales numbers were horrible except in the U.S. The K75 sales would not have benefited from the 4 valve head or the Para-Lever rear suspension like the 1000 / 1100 models did. Not having those 'niceties' kept the K75 that much more simple to maintain and kept the already high sticker price down.

@@ChrisR.Harris I owned a ‘95 K75RT. It’s lighter than K100/1100. If it had another 15-20hp and improved heat management it would have been a near perfect bike…sigh

Great stories Chris...! riding a 2004 R1150RT - got it used from a friend with only 7200 mi -had not rode in years, but the price was right, and no miles hardly. Grown to fall in love with this quirky machine, in fact rode it to work today, was 34 degrees this morning, but with heated grips and saddle it's not a big deal, plan on riding all winder as long as streets are clear and dry... Blue bike, radio delete, heard has something to do with police bike ?- thoughts ?

There were a few oddities among the authority models. An R1100RT-P dual seat version (no radio box) but with full crash bars front and rear. Different colors were to be found too. Have someone run your VIN and see what it comes back as. A BMW dealer should be able to obtain your complete history for your bike. Good luck Mike!
