3:33 Was the infield fly rule called? If not, there wasn't much the runner on 1st could do. If he goes, he gets doubled off if its caught. If he doesn't and it drops, he has no chance of making 2nd safely.
@kworkshop3 жыл бұрын
IFR does not apply on bunts
@clemsondriver92142 жыл бұрын
Infield fly rule does not apply if there is only one runner on first base, or its a line drive or its a bunt (regardless of how high it pops up from the bunt). This is because if all the fielders, the runner at 1B and the batter do what they are supposed to do then you can only get one out regardless of whether the ball was caught or dropped. What the runner at 1B should have done is stay on first base and not taken their foot off the bag. The runner stays safe and the batter is called out = you only have one out. Leading runner/runner already at a base has ownership of that base, trailing runners do not. So when a leading runner and trailing runner are both occupying the same base then the trailing runner is called out (which in this case would have been the batter). Now if the runner took his foot off of 1B and if Rizzo had been late to get to 1B and the batter was called safe at 1B then Rizzo throws to 2B for the force out on the runner and you still only have one out. But what happened instead is what you saw in the video. Runner took foot off of 1B, but batter was called out. Since its no longer a force out on 2B on that runner they had to do a rundown on him and tag him.
