I really love the 9 vs 4 discussion! One thing I feel like it's worth mentioning is that 9s can be proper brats and "reactive" if its within some form of comfortzone for them. Which is something I see a lot with 9s in their relationships, there they feel "allowed". What are your guys thoughts on 4s identity assertion of being different vs attachment triad triad trying to break free? I get the sense a lot of 6, 9 and 3s, struggle between adapting to others and being their own person. Which makes many of us see ourselves in 4. (I'm a 6 myself, and can see this struggle)

7s and 9s seem to struggle a lot with addiction (gluttony and numbing out) I only know three real 4s who are addicts. One 4 wrote the book on enneagram and addiction- Michael Naylor.

As a 4 we feel so separate from everyone and everything. Holy Origin means that we are never actually separated from our source.

I am thinking of getting hynotised into believing i am an Eight, so that I will become one. The least anxious type, so even if I stayed useless and bad at everything as I probably would, cos hypnotism wouldn't make autistic context blibdness go away, I would not fear the consequences of that anymore, I would not fear homelessness or anything cos I would believe I could cope with whatever happens. That is the vision. Have you heard of hypnotism successfully changing a type? What statements would you include in the session to get the desired fearlessness and rejection indifference of an Eight?

Dutiful is a better term than Compliant IMO. Ones are not compliant, they are dutiful in their approach to other people, just because that is the greater good, not to appease or win acceptance as compliance would imply. They will be dutiful even if that makes them unpopular, e.g. picking up litter around a dirty park bin even though they have been scolded by their parents for touchingother people's dirty litter. They have decided it is tye right thing to do which means their inner critic will bully them into doing it no matter what anyone thinks. On an important related tangent, I also believe that the evidence is conclusive now that we are born as morality-deriving beings, not taught to fake it til we make it feel like our own, as the learned morality theory held. Moral feelings about situations are based on the ratio of compassion and disgust you naturally produce, combined with whih background factual data you are processing situation with. E.g. if the data (can be true or false data, it feels the same) that you have taken in for the time being, is "the Bible is dictated to scribes by a being who understands and knows everything and is always purely good" then "I ought to obey the Bible even if I don't understand the reason for some of the rules, I must trust them cos they understand everything and I don't" is a logical reaction, not based on mindlessly copying others' feeling but on independently deriving the same feeling from the same data as they did long ago, cos human brains work similarly. Non psychopathic humans are born ready to react to certain types of data input with the two emotions that cause morality in our brains: compassion and disgust. Disgust gets triggered in older children and adults - both human and chimps - by familiar stimuli in unfamilar contexts or arrangements. Hence right wing morality is focused upon eradicating unfamiliar ways of doing familiar (whatever that was in their early life experience) things. The relative strength of these two emotions determines whether we have more left wing or right wing moral reactions to social situations when the data input is identical. Hence some whose data changes, to "the Bible is not all dictated by such a being" react with relief that they can start supporting same sex romance, as they always felt pained by not understanding why the all-knowing one claimed it was harmful without saying why, while others, who on brain scans show a high degree of disgust reactions and lower compassion, never felt conflicted about it. The disgust and compassion strength ratio is genetic and can be changed by brain damage or severe attachment failure in infancy from chronic abuse or neglect. Not what we are told to feel being told how to feel has no impact. If you feel the same as your parents about morality it does not mean you are an inherently amoral being who had to copy others until you somehow felt the feelings for real, that is such a sad misanthropic way to see yourself and all babies. It is just because they used the same factual data (true or false data you did not know, it was just what you had) as you, and had a similar genetically determined ratio of compassion and disgust. You did not mindlessly copy their emotional reactions as a blank slate born lacking morality, contrary to the very upsetting popular misconception that we were all born without morality like psychopaths and just arbitrarily copy compassion until we feel it for real. We are born moral and caring and loving, plus chaotic other instincts like self-preservation and territoriality that make us act the opposite at times. We do not learn either our pro-social or aggressive emotions, they are all instinctive. Parents and religious leaders need to stop telling us that we are born psychopaths that need to be brainwashed into experiencing pro social urges, cos it negatively affects how we approach parenting when we see babies as essentially psychopaths needing reform. Wow epic thesis of a comment there but please take that as a compliment, I felt compelled to share where I disagree cos it is interesting and the delivery is engaging.

Hi again. After reading claudio naranjo’s descriptions, i’m pretty sure i’m not a 5, lol. I think i’m a self preservation 6. It’s not really my fault though, the enneagram is hard, and stupid. Lol. And the self preservation 6 is very different from the other types. There were a few clues i ignored, though.

I'm a Type 9, and a huge part of my journey as an adult has been developing a healthy ego - to actually have opinions; to have a significant presence in my social groups; to communicate my needs even when doing so may inconvenience others. What y'all were saying about 9s skipping ahead to transcending the self in an unhealthy way rings true with my experience. You're not really transcending your ego if you never developed a real one.

I really appreciated this conversation around the 9. I have been into the enneagram for years and thought I was a 2 and I am still in the process of reorienting and awakening to my very 9 reality. The thing that hits home most for me at first listen is the naming that the work for the 9 is often not wanted by those that they are in relationship with. This is the 2nd time in a week that I have run across that idea and each time I hear it it lights up a thread into my past. Times I have brought my full self and to the table and had it more or less rejected - my worst fear - all because people didn't really know what to do with this opinionated and not as easy going me. So it is not easy, but INCREDIBLY helpful to know that...that will be a reality on my journey of growth and why.

As a 5, I really appreciate you explaining us without judgement. It’s pretty hard being a 5 and dealing with other people because they think we are emotionally cold. I feel misunderstood by most people because they can’t see what’s going on inside my head. Lately I’ve been working on talking more and trying to let others inside. Not natural for me.

Oh, y'all articulated a facet of something that's grated on me for a long time (albeit as a 4w3 rather than a 3 core!) around 11:55 - I've always had people say to me (in a complimentary way) that I'm very self-aware, and while that's objectively a very nice thing to say, it also created that distance y'all talked about, in a kind of revering but othering way. Anyway, I hope that makes sense, and thanks for y'alls content!

Also, you have said many times that withdrawn types don’t believe their presence matters, because they repress their body. What would be the equivalent statement for heart-repressed and head-repressed types? (If there is one)
@ConsciousEnneagram
@ConsciousEnneagram 6 ай бұрын
I don't know that there are exactly analogous statements for the other triads, but here's what I think most closely represents the ideas: 3, 7, and 8, don't believe that feelings matter (theirs, and often other people's) because they've repressed or moved away from their heart center. 1, 2, and 6's don't have as much access to their head center, and therefore are out of touch with their own inner knowing or inner authority and have to substitute it for someone or something else's. Does that help?

Can you clarify what you mean when you say that 5s are always calculating their energy? I’m a 5 and i have no idea what you’re talking about, though i realized today all enneagram types aren’t aware of some central issue and i shouldn’t be an exception haha. Also you guys are great
@ConsciousEnneagram

I would say that 5's are always (and often unconsciously) managing their energy. Trying to make sure they'll have enough to get through the day. They tend to be more conservative with their mental/emotional/physical energy because of their fear of being depleted.

Hi!! I found this channel only a day ago and I already love your energy! You're very interesting to listen to and the vibes are really cozy, especially when you talk about the types in such an endearing way <33 I wish the best for your channel and hopefully more people will find it! Speaking of this video, it made me realize that I myself might be a type 6w7, probably, instead of 2w1 that many tests and other people have assigned to me. Both types seemed so similar to me in the ways in which they manifested because of 6s ability to just mimic the vibes of whatever works best to fit in, which is probably why I overcompensated in taking upon favors or giving gifts and just laying EVERYTHING on the table to seem nice and accepted. My constant desire to question every single thing or situation, or even people's motivations has been aknowledged ahaha. AND EVEN NOW I'm still questioning if I got it all right because you have to take into consideration so many things like instincts, wings, even a tritype plays a role! So yeah!! Thank you for this detailed video! I'm not sure who I am but it made me feel seen nevertheless <3
@ConsciousEnneagram
@ConsciousEnneagram 6 ай бұрын
I find that with 6's especially, the questioning is an indication that you've actually found your type. haha. Also, in general, with the enneagram making it more complicated (adding in wings/tritypes/etc.) will actually make it harder to see yourself. Both the point of the Enneagram and the key to understanding your type is not to know more about the system itself, but to know more about yourself. Spending time in intentional self-observation will serve you more than learning more and more about the system. :)

You have such great info in your 8 and 5 videos. I would be really interested to see a video on 8 & 5 relationships. Side note: I’m a 5w4 with an 8w9 and I am generally so drawn to 8s. There is something very calming to me about their presence - I know they’ve ‘got this’ (whatever ‘this’ is at any given time) so I don’t feel like I have to step up and take responsibility all the time (which I frequently do with some other types) and yet I don’t feel intimidated by them. I’m always quite amused when I see people automatically shrinking back from my 8w9, when he’s barely said a word. We are drawn to each other’s intensity - his physical and mine mental - but we don’t back down from each other very often. We respect each other’s respective domains. We both work hard on showing up and being honest. Our communication is very strong. I always recommend fellow 5s seek out an 8. 😂
