God bless you guys-what a tough (but fun) task you have. Because of you, I'm now a fan of Frost, Big Big Train, Von Hertzen Brothers and so many other phenomenal bands. Kudos and Merry Christmas!

It's been a brilliant year for prog music. Absolutely love the Frost and BBT albums - and for me, the Meer album was my biggest discovery of the year. These are probably my top three albums - they were consistently good across the album. Also, I enjoyed albums from Von Herten Brothers (Song of the year - Relapse?), Beardfish, Marjan Semkina and Kite Parade this year.

Harem Scarem is unbelievably good and took a leap faith to buy an import CD some time ago and am glad I did. Deeper lyrics/songs and the ballads are even great. This is one of the best under the radar bands I have ever heard. Playlist gets a spin several times a week. And....as I am typing up comes Bonham. Both of their albums are outstanding, and their second album Mad Hatter is even better than Disregard. Two great selections! Had to chime in again Winger's Pull easily top 5 album, a masterpiece. Bands later stuff is great with some great depth.

It's unfortunate that Swedish stalwarts, Ritual, who returned for their first full length album in over 15 years weren't recognized at all. Their latest album was ranked number one on the prog corner for best prog album of the year. Everyone has their own preferences I guess.
@progreport3 күн бұрын
Indeed. That's why there are many channels and rankings.
@mikereiss42163 күн бұрын
@@progreport Not every album or band is on everyone's radar. The latest Beardfish album was at least pictured. Anyway, I recommend both the Ritual and Beardfish but everyone's taste varies of course.
@ralphmuller6040Күн бұрын
Agreed. The Ritual album is a standout. I was a bit disappointed with the Frost* album. I'll have to give it another spin.

Wow, it nust have been a shit year if only 3 albums are nominated in virtually every category (and its DT in the others). 😊
@progreport3 күн бұрын
There were bw 20-30 nominees in the categories, these were the top 3 finalists in votes. Just how it worked out.

Great choices! Love the DT recognition and the other winners are all phenomenal. Would've liked to see a little more of The Pineapple Thief as that was my favorite release of '24 but Big Big Train and Frost are so good that I can't complain. ☮🤘

Yay prog! I can't argue with any of these choices except "Night Terror" which I found to be meh, I would have gone with Big Big Train but I guess they can't win all the awards.

I certainly appreciate the results and agree with most on the list, but I cannot wrap my head around the DT vote. Their music is as cookie cutter as anything out their they have done. A LOT of talent, but their music is predictable fan service at this point. May be the novelty of Mike P returning blew this up I dont know. My opine of course.

A Broken Man is a far superior song to Night Terror. Not that NT is bad - but it's as by-the-numbers as DT gets. A Broken Man is the first time they've sounded fresh in years. Also, how do 2 different bands win album of the year and artist of the year?
@progreport3 күн бұрын
A Broken Man missed the voting window.

Great picks! The one I have to disagree with would be Production of the Year. Jon and the Band Geeks album was spectacular. And the fact that Richie did it in his basement, remote with Jon. Glad it was a finalist! Love the monthly videos.

Thanks. Yes, The Band Geeks album is outstanding.

A British prog/alternative band called Beak needs to be mentioned. They released a good album that received a lot of attention here. A mention for Herin’s, “Hiding in Plain Sight”, which is about his father who suffered from Alzheimers. Airbag put out a sonically interesting album. And young Brits, Azure released an album that is barking mad but has some wonderful playing on it!

Congratulations, Jon, on True! If I hadn't known it was with The Band Geeks, I would have believed it to be a new Yes album! It sounds like a record you could have made with Chris, Rick, Steve, and Alan! Ritchie is amazing! It's like he helped you resurrect YES from the 70s! And your voice sounds the same as it did 53 years ago when I first began listening to YES!🎤🎵🎶🙌🩵

Death Metal fan here. That Blood Incantation album keeps getting mentioned as one of the best albums of 2024, and I can only conclude that IQs have dropped sharply over the last few years. Where is the melodic development? The purposeful transitions? These two tracks are a compositional disaster of jarring moods and schizophrenic 'anything goes' songwriting, and almost nobody is critiquing them for it. The band believed their own hype, got high, and started throwing all of their favourite influences at the wall with no concern about how they would work together. I burst out laughing at several of the hamfisted segues on this thing. And it had such potential - they're good musicians and I like all of the individual elements - but the execution is horrible. Reviewers - if you care about the future of Progressive Metal please stop encouraging this amateurish consequence-free style of composition. We must hold bands of this calibre and influence to a higher standard before more compositionally-insane copycats start flooding the airwaves.

I've been a Yes fan since 45 years ago when I was 14.. By far the best band ever.. Fun table but many of the voters here must have other bands as their favourite.. That ranking was terrible. Too many wrongly positioned ones to mention.. but I will only say that someone that considers Magnification or even 90125 as an A or S, must surely be a fan of INXS or Phil Collins.. which I respect... but never a fan of Yes. Thank you; it was fun anyway.
