Great stuff! I’ve watched it multiple times and can’t decide if I’m convicted by being the old man or encouraged to know I’m not alone. Either way, I love it…I’ll be back for more! Thanks for all you do, Seth!

I used to catch fish in Carp Creek that runs through Ishpeming in the U.P. when I was growing up there back in the 80's. It's only like 4 feet wide at most.

Late to the game here....but when you castupstream, are you shooting for the bank and then stripping? I've heard that, for mousing, you should be trying to get as close to the bank and then bring the mouse out as you strip. Any thoughts? Great videos, man!!
@darkwaters52176 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for stopping by. I would say it depends on the river size on this matter. Large floatable rivers, yeah, I’d probably aim for the bank or structure. But the small ones I’m fishing, have one way you can cast, upstream.
@craigarmstrong66416 ай бұрын
@darkwaters5217 makes sense. Yea I'm wading as well...haven't tried floating yet! Most of the water I'm covering is fairly small. Wasn't sure because casting to the bank was quote the endeavor in the dark haha.

I know he's right I've been fishing anywhere I can get my line wet all my life and catching fish. The adventure getting out of town is the aesthetic and some pressure difference maybe the harder it is to get to maybe the less pressure you don't really know who's found what and how often they go there
@jayr74717 ай бұрын
Level taper is completely useless when you can just get a tapered euro line that does the same and adds to accuracy and the capability to throw dries/soft hackles. Level taper should never be recommended. Just try a dry or soft hackle on your nymph rod with a tapered euro nymph line. You can bomb it out there and mend like no other, or very accurately cast close quarters if a hatch pops up. You’ll never use level taper again.
@darkwaters52177 ай бұрын
Thank for the comment Jay. We use tapered lines all the time for other styles of fishing, but in this application it does nothing other than hinder catching fish. We’ve been dialing in this method for years now and it puts a lot of large fish in the net, consistently.
@jayr74717 ай бұрын
@@darkwaters5217 I’ll take your word for it. If numbers and efficiency are your goal, and actual fly line is a hindrance, why not just use a spin or float rod? Kind of a stretch as far as fly fishing goes. Great catches though!
@darkwaters52176 ай бұрын
You should do a google search for “euro nymphing or tight lining.” It’s a thing. Once you understand the premise, all your questions will be answered. 99% of fly rod and reel companies have all catered to this side of the industry. The level taper lines allow for drag-free drift of nymphs and streamers in a way that is impossible to achieve with other presentations because it’s micromanaging variables that aren’t manageable with other lines. No one single element of fly fishing (rod, reel, or line) make it “fly fishing.” Each way of fishing has its strengths and weaknesses, this is also true with tight lining. Some people don’t like it because it’s different than traditional fly fishing. But I don’t think those people have as much fun as we do. 😉

Can you do more of these ? I’m just getting into fly fishing and wanna make a few streamers for trout and it’s good entertainment when doing the dishes.
