I always get a laugh on hearing recordings of the Noisy Scrub Bird and wonder how it gets it's name ,considering that it sounds exactly like our much exalted Nightingale ! 😅

We visited Dryandra Woodlands by chance on our short holiday to WA last year. We were able to camp one nighi and we saw a numbat near our campsite at about 5 o'clock. An amazing place! It would be wonderful to go back and axplore it more with our own car - not a rental!

It sounds like you had a magical time! Dryandra is truly a special place. I'm a bit jealous you saw a Numbat!! I'm just wondering how you camped with a rental car?? Did you rent camping gear too or took it with you?? It would have been really nice to camp there & I looked into renting tents but came up empty handed. ~ K

I am sure you probably know this but just in case …. Here in WA, we call the ring neck parrots twenty eights (28’s). It’s our regular name. Great video and thanks for showcasing our beautiful state. I am a bit envious though, as I have lived here all my life in the south west of WA and have never seen an echidna. Just gorgeous.
@naturephotographychallenge
@naturephotographychallenge Күн бұрын
Hi there! 😀 I asked Nimal about the naming (as we did name them Twenty-eights in our first two videos) and he said that the sub species of Twenty-eight & Port Lincoln Parrots cross over between Dryandra to Perth Hills so in this video he named them the broader species of Australian Ringneck. Anyway... I love the name Twenty-eight!! It's such a sweet name. Reminds me of the Pardalotes in Tasmania called the Forty-spotted 😀 Just really nice names for birds!! In Victoria we don't have any cute names, just identifiable names. That's amazing that you haven't seen a WA Echidna yet!! You'll have to get to Dryandra and maybe that little guy is still out & about during the day! 😀 ~ K

As part of what we do, we travel all over W.A. and along the way are always looking for new species of birds and wildflowers. After quite a few years doing that, it has become rather frustrating trying to find something new. I find identifying the samll somewhat unremarkable looking birds is a bit challenging and I suspect we have pictures of birds that we still have not identified properly. Enjoyed your video, looking forward to checking out what else you have on the channel.

Thank you so much!! ❤ We wish we could have stayed much longer as there was so many new things for us to see as tourists to WA and many things we missed out on. You're very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. I'll have to check out your channel & check out all the places we should go next time!! And if you ever need any bird identification, feel free to send us a photo (Nimal's the bird nerd and he knows them all... even those little brown birds that all look the same to me 🤣) ~ K

Wonderful video ❤ I’ve got the most amazing photos of an echidna foraging in the Dryandra Forest , it actually curled up on my foot 🥹 I had to wait until it realised it wasn’t under threat, and eventually it walked off, like “nothing to see here “ 😂

I must day it's refreshing to see people who not only appreciate the natural world but also take the trouble to give the correct scientific names for wildflowers! Instant subscriber after I saw that. Oh, excellent photography as well. Glad you enjoyed WA. Not sure when you did this but spring is a must if you manage it. Staggering variety of wildflowers. Lucky to have seen both echidnas and numbats at Dryandra!

Thank you so much!! Welcome to the channel and I hope you enjoy our other videos. 😀 We always name plants, animals, birds & most insects (if we can formerly identify them). Nimal is a Botanist so plants are his "thing" so it's very important that I get the names correct in every video. Our trip to WA was in September (note to self: must remember to always put a month in the description...my fault but will fix that now!) and the wildflowers were superb!! We were really looking forward to seeing all the plants on this trip as WA has the most amazing flora!! ~ K

@naturephotographychallenge I worked as a horticulturist at Kings Park Botanic Gardens and have a lifelong interest in wildflowers, birds, nature and photography, so your channel ticks all of my boxes. Next visit to WA try to factor in a trip to the northern sandplains in early spring around Eneabba/Mount Lesueur. Roughly 270km north of Perth and an easy drive. I'm told it is the second most biodiverse place on earth (so far 7,480 species of plants, animals, insects, invertebrates etc identified) more diversity than rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef. I believe only the Cape Province in Sth Africa has more species. I've done a field trip there with overseas botanists and they are gobsmacked at what you can find. A botanical wonderland. Plenty of birds as well. The other area worth visiting is the Stirling Ranges near Mount Barker. Stunning scenery and incredible botanical and avian diversity.

@ we wanted to get to the Stirling Ranges but just didn’t have the time (mostly due to lack of accommodation in those areas so we couldn’t stay). Next WA trip will definitely be north of Perth so I’ll make a note of that location 😁 Thanks!

Very nicely done, some very nice shots and nice video in there. Just a little thing, at 7:50 the video is stutters a little bit. This might be due to mismatched frame rates, for example, you might be trying to push a 50 FPS into a 25 FPS timeline. I spotted it a couple of times. I might be wrong of course, just a thought. Have a look at the metadata of each of the clips to see and if the frame rates are different, if so, process them in their own right and then bring them into the timeline once processed. Even if you shoot in a derivitive of your base frame rate, it can still happen. I really enjoyed the style. As I said, some very nice still shots in there, as well as the video.
@naturephotographychallenge
@naturephotographychallenge 2 күн бұрын
Oh yes!! You are totally correct!! We used multiple different formats on this trip which is a bit of a pain when trying to put clips together!! Also one of our GoPros on this trip had a major meltdown & produced extremely rough footage (it was horrible!! loads we couldn't use!!) I noticed in both this video & the Cheynes Beach video that we had that awful stuttery footage in a few panning shots. You are right, it was a case of some footage being 60ffs & some in 25ffs & the whole thing got a bit mucked up in editing & exporting. But since this trip we've purchased an Osmo Pocket 3 and DJI mics so the next videos should be back to 4k. 😀 ~ K

Oooh... so many orchids! We didn't see even one, maybe due to wrong season where ever we were? Gotta love those grass trees! I must ask: did Nimal have a (semi-secret) Aussie Big Year in 2024? The species list must've been quite impressive!!

@Hummingbirder1
@Hummingbirder1 5 күн бұрын
@@naturephotographychallenge Hmm... 383 "only? You were at almost ALL the places we were (apart from Cape York/Iron Range NP), many places a bit longer getting "all" those difficult birds plus he got in a few pelagic trips if I remember correctly. Well, O'Reilly's were out of season for you, that must have an impact. And Tasmania was more or less a working trip the first time, but still... We dipped and dipped on Rockwarbler, to my enormous disappointment. The last days, visiting my old class mate, actually gave us a last new bird (Variable Fairywren), so we did get new birds even in the last sigh of the trip. And we got ONE albatross thanks to the speed boat ride to the southern tip of Bruny Island (White-headed, former known as Shy) and we got all but one of the Tasmanian endemics (Scrubtit, we didn't really think we would get that one and we didn't) much thanks to the guided day at Inala. After 69 exhausting days of birding and travel, the list ended up with 431 seen birds total (428 for me) of which 378 were Lifers. I think we did OK! Insomnia still bad. Working with photos when I'm awake enough and my tired eyes isn't full of sand. Slow going! Day before X-mas I had to go to the vet with my oldest Parrotlet bcs his health nosedived (I'm so glad he made it through our trip and I had 1,5 month to say goodbye) and he is no more. Very much missed by us and his unofficial partner (that one is 7 yo now). Unofficial since they were both males, and the survivor didn't know how to groome correctly, thus chewing off the feathers on head and neck. They had to be separated. Anyway, the Xmas holliday was a bummer in a few aspects, that's for sure.

Interesting trip guys. Lots of familiar sights for us but I am totally blown over the footage you got of the echidna. We have lots of them living on our property and they regularly dig around the trees close to our house but we rarely get to see one during the day and then it is invariably at a time when our camera is not handy. And here you come for a couple of days and you get that! Totally envious😊It's great that you got to see the Carnaby's. In the past year or so we have seen articles in the newspapers warning about the possibility of them becoming extinct due to drought and burning. A few years ago we had a large flock on our property for most of the year and last year we hardly saw them
