I just finished the book now. What a strange lovely book.

One of my favourite movies. It’s a story about humanity dealing with its mortality. Creating a deep respect and dignity for death and the dead. More often than not people tend to think that after death, we are just a piece of flesh deteriorating into humus… becoming food for worms as Robin Williams character, Mr Keating said in “Dead Poet Society” (another great movie). This movie speaks to me of not just mortality but also immortality… we are more than a character walking on this earth for “three scores and ten” but that there is life beyond… this life. Thanks for your review.

I had a million questions towards the end and felt the ending was a bit disappointing, or at least it didn´t tie together a lot of the different story lines as i expected. That aside i think what I most enjoyed was all the imagery the book conjured up in my mind, both quotidian, earthly things as bizarre dreamlike scenes. Probably some of the metaphors and ideas he's putting out went by me and I should give it a second read someday.

Hello Andy! Thanks so much for sharing your experience and thoughts. Didn't know you are a video journalist..!! Looking forward to see more videos from you :) I strong agree with 1) let people talk & 2) Have empathy. What's more important than camera and story is the person who's telling the story!

How about learning other religions? There are: Judaism (if you re a jew), christianity, islam, shinto, etc. Every religion may offer very different concept of The Creator. Since im a muslim, i can talk about islam In islam we believe in allah. But its arabic word which means more or less: The Only One True Creator of all universes worthy to be worshiped. Since, there is no one word translation in english and many other languages, we muslims rather use the word allah. Our core beliefs are coming from the quran. We believe that the quran is the true word of The Creator, because: 1) It doesnt have any contradiction. You can bring me any so-called contradiction you may think. But i can refute/debunk it for sure. 2) It hasnt changed for 1400 years. Millions of muslims all over the world have memorized the quran in arabic. When we gather (for hajj) we may know that we dont recite the different quran. It has 6236 verses (6348 verses if you count the verses number zero) in 114 chapters. 3) It doesnt contradict science (specially the tested ones). It even says: a. Life comes from water. b. The heaven and earth were joined together and being separated later. c. The stars in their track (orbit). All of those in this 1400 y.o book. So, it cant be any other than from The Creator of universe.

I saw it as a master craftsman providing/preserving the dignity of the deceased, cleansing and clothing the traveler, to allow the family/survivors a last chance to say goodbye to the loved one as they remembered him/her.

This reminds me of the way that Groundhog Day made me think about how your life can become this record on repeat if you let it. Within a week I quit my job and went on to have the career I always wanted as a Game Developer.

It's so intriguing to see what other people underlined in second hand books and wonder why...

I know! I feel like i want to have conversations with those people. To understand why they underlined those passages haha

I think being able to let a book go and repurchase it at another time that it becomes relevant to your life again is the ideal way to go. I find it so hard to get rid of books though...
@andyscabin37583 жыл бұрын
Yes! I completely agree. Sometimes it's hard but I was forced by necessity to get rid of some once and it became easier. But my heart still pulls when I have to get rid of some!

Thanks for the comment! I've heard Black Prism is great. I've got Brent Week's Night Angel trilogy but have yet to read them. Have you read them? I've currently got The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin on my list. And interested in reading The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang. Cheers!
