I have had 3 heritages and many other HDs as well as a 1200 and 800 GS. I was living in Washington at the time and would ride the fire roads. I finally realized they were too heavy for this 68 year old if you drop it. I did it a couple times and repairs are costly. I found a 250 was perfect for that. I am riding a triglide now as my knees are shot.

In 2024 a used Suzuki c50, Vulcan 900, and Honda Shadows present an amazing value. A good low mileage bike all set up for cruising can be found for less than $3000! They aren’t great bikes in any particular regard, but they can haul 2 people and a weeks worth of stuff at highway speeds for as long as you want in a capable and relatively comfortable manner. My Vulcan 900 is not my favorite bike ever, but it is certainly my wife’s favorite to ride on. The roomy rear seat and ample leg room keep her happy for hours on end!

Test rode a 2021 F750GS recently. Liked it. Two things quickly came to mind. 1) Standard front shocks kinda soft. Not used to a diving front end compared to para-lever type suspension on their bigger bikes. Does yours have ESA? Just wondered how the rear suspension is working for you? 2) Surprised how throaty, rumbley, vibey the engine is. Don't know how to describe it, but I liked it. Plenty of power, even tho the motor is dumbed down compared to the F850GS. Did yours come with heated grips? I notice it doesn't have the enduro hand guards. Surprised.
@GARamblinMan21 күн бұрын
The front suspension is not adjustable and is a little soft but I like the way it rides. The rear shock is electronically adjustable for pre-load. Its automatic from the handlebar controls for single rider, single rider with luggage or 2 up with luggage. Very easy to do with the engine running and stopped in neutral. It also has their dynamic ESA system that adjusts the rear suspension based on your riding and the condition of the roads. I like the exhaust sound too and don’t plan any upgrades there. The 2023 models and older do not come with hand guards stock. They changed that in 2024.for the 800 GS models and now they do. I think the 850 cc motor has plenty of power and torque for my needs. It’s quick and gets up to speed quickly. Overall, I love the motorcycle and am well pleased with my purchase. Comes with lots of high tech features and a great TFT display. Heated grips are standard as is cruise control. Thanks for watching and I don’t think you would be disappointed in this motorcycle. Ride safe!

The Mustang seat is very comfortable and the best after market seat out there in my opinion. With the added backrest I can ride all day no problem. It does not push me forward at all and the reach to the handlebars is fine.

Would this work for someone 6'3 250lbs? Csnt decide between this or a full on touring bike like a road glide ultra
@GARamblinManАй бұрын
Yes I think it would. It’s not as big and heavy as the Road Glides but plenty powerful and comfortable in my opinion But I would test ride both and see what your most comfortable on. The Road Glide Ultra would have more luggage space for trips and if you’re really going t9 be taking long trips especially with a passenger I would lean towards the bigger touring models like the Road Glide Ultra. Can’t go wrong either way. Thanks for watching and good luck

I think that is a great choice. If I was going to buy a touring motorcycle that would be the one I would choose. Much more comfortable for a bigger guy than the Street Glide or Ultra Limited since the fairing is not up so close. I do like the FJR but it’s a completely different style motorcycle than the Heritage. Half of 168,000 km is about 50,000 miles. I’m sure it will get there. Great video. Biggest downside to these is it’s a navigation unit with no navigation. More of a phone screen mirroring device. I’m a retired American, but I live in the Philippines. On my second GS now and spend most of my time touring the country on bikes. Used to use my phone but service in most of these mountains isn’t a thing, so stand alone Nav as a backup is a must! Sold my connected ride navigator with my 1250, then upgraded to a new 1300 after. Wish I’d kept my nav now because out of stock everywhere here haha.
@GARamblinMan2 ай бұрын
Very good point on the Chigee unit being basically just a mirror of your mobile phone. Luckily in the parts of the USA that I ride, lack of a cell phone signal is rarely a problem, but I take the BMW Connected Ride Navigator with me when I go on trips just in case. I really wish BMW would allow Apple Car Play and the BMW Connected Ride Navigator unit to be shown on their main TFT screen so a separate unit wasn’t needed. I think eventually they will get there. Harley-Davidson did that on their new 2024 touring bikes.
@eric76392 ай бұрын
@@GARamblinMan Yea it seems odd at this point that they haven’t added CarPlay to the new gs’s. I looked into lots of different nav options, and I hate the way Chigiee have marketed it as a “navigation unit” or all the videos claiming it’s a replacement for “gps”. Then go on to explain how a gps unit only does 20% of a chigee. What they fail to mention is a gps does 100% of what a chigee won’t haha. I basically use nav for all my big destinations and my iPhone on a quad lock for smaller specific stuff in cities like hotels or food. If I was still stateside it would make more sense as I used car play in all my cars. But nothing can replace dedicated gps. Chigee should add it. Then I’d buy one 😎

The Chigee model I have fits directly into the Navigation prep that all the BMW GS bikes come with and there is virtually no set up. It’s just plug and play. If you have an older model without the nav prep or a model that it doesn’t come with the nav prep bracket, the Chigee AIO-5 Lite model will work. You just have to get a handlebar mount and wire it to your battery to power it. A little more involved but still workable and the Apple Car Play and Android Auto features on the display are similar to what you saw on mine. It’s a great unit, well built and solid. I highly recommend it Thanks for watching and good luck installing one if you get it. Ride safe.

You know the CCP is tracking you,🤣. I’ve thought about a nav system for my Tiger-Triumph’s sucks eggs-but I usually have a pretty good idea of where I’m going. I use the Waze app when I’m traveling in my truck, mainly for traffic info. I don’t like having my phone on my handlebars, but there’s a phone tray under the passenger seat with a charge port. It’s a pain to get to, so I’ve never used it. I just rely on my keen sense of direction 😂. Hopefully, that nav thingy can get you to Lake Lure USA next week! 😂 Take care, buddy.

I’m more worried about Google and Apple tracking me than the CCP. The BMW has both 12-V and USB charging connections close to the handlebars but I don’t like mounting my phone there. I keep it in my pocket and the battery usually lasts all day but I have a rechargeable battery pack in my saddlebag that I can use if I need it. This GPS unit is the best I’ve found and having Apple Car Play makes it familiar to me. Sooner or later I’m sure BMW and Triumph will make Car Play available to connect with their TFT screens. That will be nice but for now this is a good solution for me. It will guide me to Lake Lure next Friday no problem and I look forward to it! Ride safe, buddy.

I did some other things, but I played golf for about a year on a regular basis at least once a week. Later dabbled in other work, including manual labor at Lowes Distribution center (Which I loved), operating all the equipment they had there in my last job there---night shift, 4 days a week 10 hour shifts. When my Mom passed I retired for good, wrote a nice resignation letter thanking Lowes for hiring a 58 year old and giving me a chance. Hard work, but it reminded me of loading weapons onto fighter aircraft in the Air Force and there were great people there. Retirement is great if you stay busy. Medical issues catching up with me is no fun, but work like I had would probably not be good. Enjoying my time away from the grind. I miss working at Lowe's, but not the work I did for my career. I miss the people and clients I worked with, but the politics of the work I do not miss one bit.... especially the ORS surveys or Joint Commission accreditation Surveys. Such BS Dog and Pony Shows. About a month prior to my retirement I bought a leftover 2023 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic. I love the bike and also have a 2015 Honda Shadow Aero that I love just as equally. I try to ride two to three days a week usually riding from my home in Buffalo, New York to my cabin in ski country Ellicottville New York about 60 miles south. Love to ride either solo or with a friend for coffee in Ellicottive and then to my cabin a few miles away to sit by the lake. I haven’t really adjusted yet to being retired I will enjoy the rest of summer and the riding season then look for a part time job this winter. My wife has a lot of things for me to do so I will no problem keeping busy. My part time job will be my money in other words my beer money and my motorcycle repair and maintenance money. I agree it different not working I also need to decide if I’m going to take my social security or wait. What’s your opinion on when to start taking your SS? I believe that I’m going to take it now because tomorrow isn’t promised. I have gotten up at 3:30 AM for the last 35 years to drive or ride 100 mile round trip to work each day and many of those days were doubles. Now I get up usually between 6-7 AM and ride my bike or workout hitting a heavy bag, push ups and then 1 hour walk to start my day. The wife said something to me the other day that I can’t forget she said let’s make the next ten years the best of our lives. Hopefully, gos will bless us with ten years. But George that was a WOW moment and I need to stop worrying about money and working and focus on what’s really important. In life we never stop learning! Take care and enjoy the ride!!! Go Bills!!!

Congratulations on your retirement! Must be nice not having to get up at 3:30 every morning. Regarding your social security - I would at least wait until your full retirement age in the SS system. That way you can earn as much as you want in a part time job and it won’t affect your SS benefits. That’s what I did. Glad you like retirement I thought you would lol . If you ever get tired of a motorcycle clutch you might like the Honda nc750x DCT. Those are awesome motorcycles for the money with great luggage options. Good to see your videos again. Take it easy. 👍

I’ve thought about a DCT a few times. The Honda NC750 would be a model I would consider. They are priced good too. Rumor has it that BMW is coming with a DCT next year. I’ll be waiting. Retirement is suiting me just fine. Thanks!
