Normal weak LA Nina bring very snowy cold winters. NOT all la Nina s are the same. El ninos likewise. East Coast USA winters non-existent for many years NOW and snow very rare here in Chambersburg pa and Hagerstown MD soon be a thing of the past. Classic East Coast winters non-existent through 2030+. We will NEVER EXPERIENCE any true classic winters with heavy snow ❄️❄️ and very cold winters. Blame on Climate Change!!!!!!! 😢😢

I appreciate the models trying to get precipitation going, but I can't remember the last time a percentage chance for rain got higher as the event approached or when we received over what was predicted. It seems like every precipitation event is over predicted until about 3 or 4 days out.

In Houston, Texas the last measurable precipitation was on September the 6th. So that's a Derecho in May, A hurricane in July and now a flash drought in September/October...

Ya eastern iowa has been dry but the soil is still moist 6 to 8 in down. Since groing seasons over nothing is sucking it dry so if we get 3 in by spring we will be sitting good

Nice to see the ECMWF AI hinting at the idea of another cutoff low dropping into the southwestern US and lifting out toward the central High Plains during the first week of November. That far out in time may be in la la land but the fact that a cutoff low just did that same thing this past weekend would suggest that we're seeing a pattern change that could support it. Maybe not a drought breaker but anything on the winter wheat crop this time of year is a bonus.

The continental U.S. is now firmly dominated by the 'CMNAO', i.e. the Culturally Modified North American Oscillation. Characterized by the ridge that's now commonly entrenched from Mexico to Hudson bay and interestingly is super stable. Crazy warm gulf of mex + high global background temps? I'd wager the upper Midwest will likely never see extended stretches of stable cold (average) again in our life times. Cold intrusions are rare and fleeting.

Thank you for this video. It was really insightful. I learned a lot. It seems like there's a lot of things at play that's causing in particular a dry September and October in New York state. I'm an hour north of New York City in the Hudson valley and I do lawn mowing for a living so you can imagine how frustrating and stressful it is. Last year we had so much rain. I was hating it. I'd rather have that than none. Well we've gotten some, but it's so windy and sunny here. It dries it up fast. Do you know if November looks like it will finally start to rain in that part of the country? Another meteorologist said these are still the effects from the strong El nino that vanished in late June. I look forward to your reply

Got rain at home finally, .30 in mesa, az. Then we drove to a wedding in cantullo, NM over the weekend and we got hammered by a good cell that came thru. I'd say a good .50 fell in a short amount of time with vivid lighting. Most weather action I've seen in months!

Longterm forecasts are taking away chances for rain that were just there yesterday, tomorrow they'll be back, and then gone again. All of you meteorologists really don't have a clue, do you? lol! Here's the sad part, last year YOU said El Niño would bring moisture to us, YOU were wrong. This year you say La Niña will take moisture away, you will be right. Not because you predicted well; it's simply because you said it's going to be dry. I could tell you that, and I don't have to look at one single map to make that accurate statement. When will you learn to just say, it's going to be dry from here on out and the lower midwest will become a desert in the next 50 years?

Do you look at 1 week intervals rather than 1 month and 3 month intervals you show us as a summary? Just wondering the effect of temporal variables on your studies?
@Nutrien_AgSolutions
@Nutrien_AgSolutions 4 күн бұрын
I do, but looking at 1 week intervals for anything beyond the next 15 days is so noisy, it is difficult to find a signal. The signals pop put better when you average 2-4 weeks together when looking out that far.

@Nutrien_AgSolutions

I accidentally cross thread a brass fitting on the break booster. These old BMWs use the power steering system and fluid to assist with braking and it's a pain to replace. When I had my hands and arms contorted in the most odd way to fasten one of the 4 different fittings on the brake booster assembly, I cross thread it on accident. The brass is so soft, it felt like normal resistance for a pressure fitting, but then I noticed the alignment was not right. So, $900 later and a new booster, it is all back together and just waiting on me to bleed the system.

The first cold morning in Central/South Mississippi. In east central Mississippi, my PWS showed 34 degrees this morning while the one here about 30 miles inland from the Gulf was 40F. We are quite dry here. With the exception of the ~5.5 inches of rain we got with Francine, we've been pretty dry here for the last 3 months. 1.70 inches in August, then dry before and after Francine in September and only 0.39 inches in October. From putting in my fall garden, I know there is some subsoil moisture there but the top 6-8 inches is powder. Our daytime humidities have been in the 35-40% range, which is very dry for this close to the Gulf. With winds from the cold front, we've started our usual wildfire issues which is unfortunate. I'm not looking forward to a La Nina winter/spring here which, as you stated several times recently, tends to be dry. Keep the good insights coming!

It’s not unusual for us to have that kind of insane trough/cold weather on Halloween for us here in east Texas… a few years ago it was 100 degrees around or on Halloween… and we had a cold front come threw and the next day we struggled bussed it to 60 degrees and the low was pushing freezing… could you do a quick review on that? It seems like Halloween or the week of Halloween has the greatest change in temps on avg…

With the MJO entering into new phases 7-1 (predictions) through the end of October and into November, could that lead to colder or more seasonal temps to hold on through the upper Midwest and Minnesota? I know future casts are tough but just curious on the November weather outlook with that MJO moving into new phases. Thanks!
