Thanks Eric for the insightful video. What's interesting is looking at the PDO Index going back 100 years, there's long periods of positive phase and negative phase. From roughly 1970 to roughly 1998/2000 we were in a positive PDO bias, and since then we've been in a negative bias. You can also see the trend in the ENSO index as well which makes sense as they are connected. I'm curious if we are in a broad pattern that is defaulting back to La Niña which would verify the long range model forecasts.

Absolutely! Completely Agree. I am looking at the PDO as a possible modifier on the La Niña this winter. If they work in tandem (and if the PMM dips negative again) then that typical La Niña winter signal will dominate.

Could you explain why we should rely on the models that also completely failed to understand Milton’s strengthening the last 2 days?
@DavidAnuszewski14 күн бұрын
One issue I've heard one KZbinr explain is Florida has about 12 power generating stations along the I-4 corridor. The track is taking Milton right over all of them so power outages could be a major issue... Not due to just downed power lines but damage to the source of the power.
@Nutrien_AgSolutions14 күн бұрын
that could be a huge problem. I've noticed Generac Stock Price has gone up 10% since these forecast for Milton came out. www.google.com/search?q=generac+stock+price&rlz=1C5GCCM_en&oq=generac+stock&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqDQgBEAAYgwEYsQMYgAQyDwgAEEUYORiDARixAxiABDINCAEQABiDARixAxiABDINCAIQABiDARixAxiABDIHCAMQABiABDIHCAQQABiABDIHCAUQABiABDIHCAYQABiABDIHCAcQABiABDIHCAgQABiABDIHCAkQABiABNIBCDcxMDlqMGo3qAIIsAIB&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

I have a stupid question about saltwater surges and soil, i know prime agri land won't be near a coast but how bad would it be for plant life?
@Nutrien_AgSolutions14 күн бұрын
typically coastal waterways are fine but there are several places (I am thinking about North Carolina) where there is farmland that has been inundated by sea water that has ruined the land through salt content. This can happen with irrigation from aquifers that have high salt content too (I hear about this in the central plains on the Ogalala Aquifer and in the Central Valley of California).

Not a stupid question at all! Great question, I learned something from it

There is a special liquid solution called "byosoil detox" that can remediate contaminated soils , designed to clean up brine contamination from fracking. The solution creates some type of new compound from the salt, it somehow binds the salt and helps soil recover. There is emerging technology to combat this very thing, but few know about it. I sat through a boring seminar for their piece on byo fertilizers 10 years ago, nobody knows about it

Nothing left to consider, the entire country is in a developing drought. Not sure whats left to see? It goes 4-5 weeks between chances of rain, the cold fronts come every 2-3 days to scour out the moisture return. Im not seeing a single encouraging signal that this thing will go away before spring. The only glimmer we have is if the November patter actually is a flip, thats a BIG IF
@Nutrien_AgSolutions14 күн бұрын
it is a big IF. And, I am hoping the sub seasonal weather patterns outdo the typical winter La Niña drier forecast for your area.
