My husband and I use Delta a majority of the time for flights due to frequent upcoming trips to Peru. He also owns a business. Would it be better to get a Platinum Skymiles Amex (3x miles for flight purchases) or a business Amex and transfer the points to Skymiles?

Btw we also have a Venture X card but realized too late Capital One doesn’t transfer to Delta. We take our family to Disney World annually and might also have other family trips coming up in the future which would factor into the business card choice. But travel to Peru is the priority and Delta is pretty much the only airline that has regular flights there and is the only airline that partners with LATAM.

Thanks for your question! Either the Delta SkyMiles Platinum business or personal card are great cards, it just depends on which one will suite your needs. The personal card has a much better miles earning potential than the business card which can provide a lot of value over time. With a Business Amex card (depending on which one) you will have more options for using your points as you can easily transfer them to a large range of different airlines and hotel partners. But remember that the Delta SkyMiles Platinum card offers the annual companion certificate which can be really quite valuable!

I believe you should be able to get a signup bonus for each card as one is a business card and the other is a consumer card, but it's worth asking Amex first just to make sure! The United Infinite card looks really good & I am leaning towards it. However I am not near any United Airline Hub. I am more leaning towards the Citi AAdvantage Executive Card since I live close to the major American Airline Hub in Florida.

The United Quest Card looks good, but I'll pass. I am leaning more towards the United Gateway (to start out), then upgrade to the Explorer card (for the complementary United Club Lounge Access twice per year) as well as Citi AAdvantage Card

If you can get a Business Card. Only check 1 bag/person and spend less than $8333 on United a year The United Business, with its pairing bonus and $100 statement credit has the best value vs the Quest. If you did more than in United $8333 purchases the quest then has more value at x3. Or if you check 2 bags. Below the $8333 spend the United Business even at x2 has more value due to the credit and bonus.

BEWARE - The free night award on the Amex Brilliant card is an absolute scam. I paid the annual fee, held the card for 12 months and then cancelled the card well after the first anniversary (before the 13th month) but the FNC never credited to my account. Unlike every other hotel card on the market (Hilton IHG Hyatt) you actually have to pay your annual fee at least twice before you get your first 85k free night certificate.

The best hotel credit card is the card that gives you the greatest benefits in terms of room upgrades and perks. For me, it is my IHG premier card (welcome drink, snacks, room upgrades), followed by the Hilton card (free breakfast), Hyatt (free night awards), and Marriott $95 card (just extra points most times, sometimes room upgrades).

What about the Service level? We all often hear, what happened to the time when flying was fun? Well, Service is very important to me. I am not sure about you… So for me Delta is a winner! Amex Reserve is the big winner here. A couple of companion certs, plus launches, etc… this card is the Champion!

I have found the Bonvoy Brilliant to be clearly better. Marriotts in general are of higher quality and more ubiquitous in the world. Platinum status is so much more recognized than Hilton Diamond, and in the US specifically the Hilton Diamond status is no better than having Gold status. Good luck with getting an upgrade. I cancelled my Aspire card and kept my Bonvoy Brilliant! Marriott has a more personal touch in general, whereas Hilton tends to be dismissive. I will cancel my Hilton Business as well in a cpl months. Great review!

I have all three of these premium airlines credit cards and I can tell you that the best card, by far, is the Amex Delta Reserve. It’s not even close. The card is so good that I have two of them, business version and the personal version. In 2nd place I will put my Citi AAdvantage Executive card. A strong area of this card is the authorized users get access to Admiral Club Lounge. Also, the statement credits are easy to use (car rental & Grubhub). Although, one area that this card decreased its value significantly to me is when it lost access to Admiral Club Lounge when flying JetBlue. Also, you cannot access Admiral Club on arrival airport. I will put the Chase United Club card in 3rd place because AUs don’t have access to United Club Lounge and there is only one statement credit of $75 IHG to offset the AF. One good thing is access to United Club Lounge on arrival airport. Cheers 🍻

Non of these appeals to me. They are too airline specific and annual are expensive. I still love my Venture X and aeroplan cards for their earning abilities and transfer partners.

Capital One Venture X is a great choice, although it will not offer the same value as an airline specific CC. I had the Amex Preferred for a couple of years and have saved me $3K in my travels. That is like yearly a salary increase!

Thank you!🙏😊 Although I fly quite a bit annually with each of these airlines (Delta is my preferred airline and I have the Amex Platinum, which gives me Delta Club access), by far most of my flight opportunities are with United and I like the 9x miles earning rate. I was considering the Explorer card until you made me aware of the 9x miles earning rate.

The companion certificates are definitely worth it IMO. Everyone's mileage may vary - but we haven't had any issues with using them (2X Delta Platinum). Matter of fact - we'll be upgrading our cards to the Delta Reserve going forward. Thanks for the info + video!

It's unlimited only if the lounge allow you in most cases. Some lounges have the right to reject your access even if with PP.

Well done. A couple of corrections. I have used several companion passes over the years in holding all 4 of these cards. Each time my companion pass deposited into my Delta account after the annual fee was charged but before it was too late to cancel. Each time I cancelled the card after the annual fee hit and the companion pass had been added to my Delta account and I never paid for the second year of the card. Also, when I eventually used the companion pass I did not have the card that gave me the pass, yet I was able to use a different Amex card to pay for the primary ticket.

I have had the United Explorer card for 2 months and late I realized that the Quest card was the best for me, how long should I wait to upgrade from explorer to quest, what would happen to the points earned and the entry bonus I earned, And if they accept the upgrade I would be eligible for the entry bonus of the new card, thank you very much

Thank you! If you have spent the required amount to receive the signup bonus for the Explorer card I would assume you will keep those miles. If you do upgrade to the Quest card I'm pretty sure all of your miles stay with you, you will just have a new card. I would call the number on the back of your current Explorer card and talk to one of the representatives to see what they say. If they do allow for you to upgrade, just make sure they don't do a hard inquiry, as that will affect your credit score negatively.

Hi, So if you apply for the Amex Platinum, apparently Amex is making it harder to get a sign-up bonus for lower tier cards that are in the same card family (such as the Gold or Green card). So if you want a better chance of getting a sign-up bonus for more than one card, it might make sense to start with a lower tier card and move your way up. But just know that Amex does limit the amount of cards you can apply for and ultimately hold.

Start with the Blue, then Green, Plum, then Gold, Platinum based on how Amex works now. But I started with the Hilton, then Platinum, then Plum and the Bonvoy. Some folks don't use like the Green or Plum because the benefits are limited. However I find that the Plum is great as a mini bridge loan. The personal green is good for travel ancillaries that the business green doesn't offer.

@@lewis20002000 Waitlist to go into the Centurion lounge, no seats available in Centurion lounges due to overcrowding, lackluster food options at Centurion lounges, dirty floors at Delta Sky lounges, dirty buffet area, dirty bathrooms, again overcrowded lounges at Delta Sky lounges, & PP lounges are mostly a crapshoot. Only 1 out of 5 are mostly ok, the rest are trash. So, I will double down on what I said, not looking for any royal treatment, just a clean & tranquil environment is what I'm looking for. None of these lounges mentioned above delivered that.

Thank you! I assume the Platinum card is being offered to you for no extra charge for the actually card but still with an annual fee? If there is no annual fee at all I would get the card, Either way, if you did get the Platinum card as well it will provide you with a companion certificate, and better miles earning potential.
