I have a SX-Prestige. I have differing views on a few things. I like the backup alarm because it helps move people away in the grocery store parking lot. This is my first automatic car and I personally find the shifter intuitive. Right is forward. Left is reverse. No need to look. Doesn’t waste space with a bulky shifter. Use the paddles to shift up or down if you want to chose a gear and hold the up shift paddle to go back to drive. I still don’t like automatics but this one is tolerable in operation. Related to this, however, is that sometimes there is a major delay if you are going 1-2 mph and hit the gas. Things have disconnected for regen and the electric drive motor is not moving things forward so you can catch it off guard. No California stops with this one. It hates that. I hate California stops so it’s typically fine for me. I agree on the gloss black - dangerous in the sun. Bought a grey overlay and it looks so much better and doesn’t reflect the sun in my eyes. I like that I can really work the regen system to optimize my general braking like I could with a manual transmission. I take the car on trails, so I killed the mileage with installing all terrain tires but I still get mid-30’s for mileage. I am surprised how fast this car makes heat in the winter. Maybe it has resistive heating to supplement the coolant and heater core? I love the heated steering wheel and heated windshield (but not the potential cost to replace). I like the sunrises, sunsets, etc. on the digital dash. The cameras that come up on the dash when turning is a wonderful supplement the blind spot warning. The 360 camera is great too. There is good room inside and I was able to fit full size spare under the rear cargo floor. The all-speed cruise control is nice in traffic jams. The driving assist was not something I wanted but I have grown to really like and reduces fatigue during long trips. I think the suspension is good on slow rough roads but is not super refined on sharp hits. It’s a little sloppy but comfortable. My rear shocks were leaking and replaced under warranty. My horn relay failed and was replaced under warranty. The OEM tires had no grip - I could spin the tires front and back when accelerating out into a high-speed street and that was a safety issue. I’ll sacrifice a little fuel economy for grip any day. I am still impressed how far I’ve made it on forest service roads without any issues. The low speed torque of the electric motor and turbo makes slow terrain crawling easy, even without low gearing. The clearance is more than enough for what this car should ever do. I got the Kia skid plate for the front to act as a feeler gauge since it is the lowest point but have not hit anything with it so I think my expectations of capability are exceeded by its actual capability. Just remember, this is not a Land Cruiser. It may just keep up with a Subaru which is more than I need. I would like better shocks and springs and the variable valve duration sometimes makes the engine sound really bad around 2700-2800 rpm at light throttle so they need a little work in that mapping. Makes me worry about longevity - it’s the first engine to employ that tech in the world. They also updated the software that runs the engine 100-200 rpm higher in generation and parallel mode that increased NVH but supposedly reduced issues with oil dilution over time due to the hybrid cycles and temperatures. If you live in the mountains, the turbo really helps over the competition. Finally - I actually use the remote driving from the key fob. Park too close to the garage door? - just move it forward. Sticking out further than you want in the parking garage - walk it forward. Slightly over into the yellow on your parallel park job… no problem. The best w as when somebody gave me a foot between their car and me. I was able to back it out and get in. Wouldn’t upgrade just for that but I like it. Overall, mine has been great. 9/10.

Piano black is a horrible idea, and belongs nowhere on a car, especially this inside. But manufacturers insist on using it. One question I have is regarding the AC. I live in Florida, and a strong/cold AC is a must for me. I hate dealing with scorching summer heat, and using a mediocre AC. This past summer I had to use a rental, which turned out to be a Hyundai Palisade. The AC could definitely have been stronger. It felt on the weaker side, which made me blacklist that vehicle, and maybe Hyundai in general, and maybe Kia, too.

Howdy; GREAT video (How to Optimize Fuel Efficiency in a Kia Sportage Hybrid). I would like to know two things - 1. What trim level are you driving? I have a 2023 EX Hybrid that i purchased used 4 months ago and would like to match your features with mine. And 2. Can the EX Hybrid's engine bay be detailed? If yes, can you explain how it's done(I don't want the high voltage side of the engine to get destroyed in the process)? Thanks for the video and your advice. Robert
@RivermanTV-10 күн бұрын
I have the LX trim. I think any engine bay can be detailed but care needs to be taken so that the electrical components are covered and sealed so that no water makes its way in. I personally have never done it so I can't offer much advice other than the alternator needs to be completely sealed off and protected while detailing.

This is a great video Riverman. We are just about ready to purchase the Tucson cousin. I will pull a light trailer on occasion. Do the backup sensors react when you hook up the trailer, do you have to turn them off somehow? Thanks! I'll go check out your channel now for more info. Just thought of another. Am I right that this vehicle will require a timing belt change at 60K? Any idea on cost of that service?
@RivermanTV-18 күн бұрын
The backup sensor does activate with a trailer in reverse but there is a button to silence it on the center console controls in my model. I don't think the timing belt needs replacing after 60k. I haven't needed to and in my manual it is just an item to inspect if I remember correctly.

I have had my 2024 Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige for 7 months now and have a little over 13K miles. My driving environment is a little different than yours, I live in the Phoenix area. BLUF: I am very happy with my car, no complaints. I am starting into my first winter (yes, we have winter in Phoenix, it is down to 75 the week) and my MPG has improved a lot. I am consistently getting 40+. When the temp is in the 90-110 the MPG is about 36. I think it is the AC sucking the MPG down. Given its weight, the AWD, and the higher profile, it exceeded my expectations. I replace my 2013 Fusion Hybrid with the Sportage and while I loved my Fusion, I like my Sportage just as much. The only problem I have had was the front camera failed as soon as it started to get hot here in Phoenix. KIA replaced it no problem and it has worked fine ever since. PS: Mine has never beeped in reverse.

www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/fe_test_schedules.shtml describes that EPA testing process for City and Hiway driving. It is disingenuous to state the ratings are not accurate because you are not driving the car the way the test is done. The tests were developed in 1978 and the routine has been kept the same for consistency reasons. Test Average Speed City 21.2 Highway 48.3 Because of my driving habits I am currently getting 40.5 MPH combines city and highway driving. The variable in this equation is you.

Definitely a d*ck move but it’s far from the sole domain of boaters. I’ve had the same thing happen from kayakers while wading and bank fishing. One kayaker intentionally drove through a hole we were fishing and gave us a look like we were imposing on his movement, despite there being a a hundred yards of river he could have moved through without getting near us. When he gave us one last dismissive look after exiting the hole I sent a cast 40 yards that landed inches from his port side. Oopsies. 🤷♂️ Keep up the great content. 🫡
