Thanks for the advice. Like @McNortier asked above, would cycling be considered some form of strength training?
@TheJakeStream4 күн бұрын
No, cycling is a form of cross-training.

Schalk is a damn good runner. We've done a couple of racer together (Cape Town 2023, Priates 21)... well, "together" meaning we both ran the same race, I guess. Loving his journey. See you at Comrades next year, Schalk!

In 2023 I ran my first Comrades marathon(Down Run), and it shattered me, finished at 08h 01min. This year did my back-to-back Comrades(Up Run). I followed Coach Perry's Silver medal program having qualified with a 2h 58min marathon. I followed the program from first week of January until a week before Comrades, I milked the program bare and listened to the weekly videos with curiosity and enthusiam. I ran a 7h 16min Comrades. The first half at 3h 40min and the second half at 3h 36min, negative splitting it! I met Lindsey at the expo the day before the race and he reminded me to pace smart and to keep the ego in check. The last 25km were brutal, but I grinded them out 1km at a time. Brad and Lindsey know their business, I avow to that. Cheers to another silver medal in 2025🎉 Thank you Brad, Lindsey and the Team.

I finished my first comrades in June (2024), clocking 10h:53min. It was gruelling and at time brutal. My hamstrings almost 'packed up' on Bother's hill after just 38km or so. However it was all to do with me joining a faster running group... I had used Coach Perry's training plans and tips. They do work really well and you will def be ready for comrades barring any injuries. Thank coach Parry and team for everything! Your tips and insights are always spot on.

I followed coach Parry's training for 2024 up run and I got my medal. It was my first comrade. His training method is amazing and 2025 will be my back to back. Thank you coach

2:39 The devil lies in the training. Just an input from 01 time Comrade runner, i could only train 600 km before the race in 2024. I targeted a finish within 12 hours and i succeeded. Keep faith in your self and dont get injured. Mr Parry is excellent coach keep listening to him and grab the things from his channel that suit you.

I am living near Los Angeles (USA) and so the list of Comrades Qualifying Marathons is not near me. This year I did a 4h14 marathon so I am confident to qualify.

Hi Coach ..I last ran the Soweto marathon back in 2008, and I remember there was a tent or a few that were reserved for people travelling from outside Soweto..is this still the case? The first year I had run the race was in 2006 and I was late getting to the start line so the next 2 years I used this free accommodation..not sure if it's still there though after all these years..Thanks🙂

Thanks coach, thanks so much for the invaluable information and guidance. I was hoping to use my Berlin marathon as qualifier but will see how I feel & run at jacaranda. Giving the CT races a miss time round, think running two oceans & comrades is tricky. (Like coach said lol)

These are tips for social runners, especially when you are talking about walk and run. Can you provide tips for the elite, especially for marathon?
@jjndz37822 ай бұрын
Yeah elite runners don't have time to walk in the race. I almost think even sub 3hr runners would not have that time.

Ran up Government Ave on Saturday - its not steep at all, beautiful and provides cool cover. If they keep this in the race going forward it may take over the Common as a prime spectator spot!
