This was always one of my dream cars. I was fortunate to be able to buy one new in 2019 with no mark ups. My car is bone stock except for a K & N high flow air filter and I replaced the stock rubber with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. It always puts a smile on my face when I drive it and is one of those cars that makes you want to take the long way home when you have to do errands. My car might as well be a family heirloom because I am never selling my car. Because I am not thrashing it at the track every weekend and haven't modified the engine beyond recognition, I know the car will continue to give me a trouble free ownership which means more money for gas and more time for driving. Thanks for the tips. BTW I think this car looks best in the dark metallic blue of the early models.

As a FK8 owner, I heavily discourage you to get a FK8/FL5 to be your daily + weekend racer. The cooling issues being talked about, are not fixed by simple solutions like a different radiator. Be prepared to sink over $5,000 in mods and time into the platform, just to be able to go a few more laps. There are many owners, who get real with the issue and tell you not to get one, if you want to race them. The overheating issues are not due to a small radiator or something like that- the engine bays are simply too cramped for the turbocharged K20C1. Mind you, it's pushing 320+ HP from a 2 liter, so it's the turbo doing the heavy lifting. If you put that hot turbo AND CAT UNDER the intake charge pipes and IN BETWEEN the engine and the heat exchangers, you WILL get heat soak. A bigger radiator will only worsen this issue, because now you decreased the airflow to the engine bay to cool other components. Like I said, it's not an easy "slap some mods and call it a day" problem. This is a "this platform is silly" kind of problem. You need at least a engine hood with major cooling vents, at least one external oil cooler (2 is better...) another front mask with bigger opening for airflow, wrap on the intake charge pipe (no turbo or exhaust blanket- you need the airflow to cool it) and CAT delete to make a real difference. Guys, I'm not hating on the Type R- it is the best (stock) FWD sports car for the street. When I got mine, I was laughing in joy, all the way back home, carving through the country roads. But it is not for the track- as is. I don't consider a car, that can only do 5 laps, before it goes into limp mode a "track car". There are many cars, that you can slap a bigger radiator, oil cooler on and prop the hood in the rear and have fun all day. This ain't it.

I swapped my Golf R MK8 for the FL5. The golf is a fantastic car, but too clinical for me on Australian roads. Meaning it just felt like it needs to be on the autobahn to appreciate its strength. The Honda however has so much personality. You can drive it around the streets legally and still enjoy its involvement. Then it’s got a wicked side that is just crazy if you willing to find it..

In UK no problems with my 19 reg FK8 GT at 20k miles. Something on front was changed under warranty to cure front parking sensors giving false warnings after car parked in rain. Sound system is very good for my ears. Best upgrade was at 15 k miles when oem Pirelli tyres still had 3mm tread was to replace them with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. The Michelins give a more comfortable ride, are quieter, no chunk chunk when manoeuvring in cold weather & make steering slightly heavier when in comfort mode which I prefer. Just the infotainment touch screen system annoys so I set climate control settings to suit prevailing weather conditions before driving off & use WAZZ for navigation. There is space for an expensive Honda space saver spare wheel which does not significantly reduce boot volume. I prefer the dramatic looks of my FK8 to that of both the Sport Line & new FL5. From Euro NCAP test results the FL5, & other manufacturers recent cars, are not worthy of 5 Star ratings as driver safety is compromised in the offset test - refer to Auto Expert JC who has exposed this problem.

Low pressure fuel pump issue 4. high risk of AC problems. From condenser, to evaporator, to compressor 5. I’ve had mine since 30k km and done about 35k on it. The issues I’ve had: Clutch slip - new clutch needed at about 35k km, old owner’s fault Synchromesh issue - maybe due to the old driver but seems a common issue, cost £4600 to repair Clutch peddle creak - apparently common, easy fix lubricating it Rest wiper letting water in - removed rear light and resealed Creaking from suspension - replacement ball joints at 65k km Brake noise - small stones get stuck between the brake shield and disc, just poke at the shield with a stick and it comes out Seat bolsters - they’re wearing and creasing pretty fast Any other issues were caused by mods done by myself All cars have problems and I’m hoping no more issues as it’s a joy to drive and fits the family nicely, and the boot is huge, with room to fit a collapsible wheelchair and luggage with no problems

My comment applies to Japan market samples. The shop I use that specializes in track tuning Lotuses is friendly with people who race these. Evidently the chassis is built with relatively thin steel and insufficient spot welds. If you put stiff suspension and sticky tires on it, then track it for a couple of seasons, the chassis gets flexy and spongy. It’s pretty much done, with not much that can be done about it. So best enjoyed as a street car, as it was designed.

Missed a fair bit on the reliability issues. I am basing my list on the FK2, but these problems carry over, considering a lot of the parts are shared: - Suspension; particularly shocks failing, but also other components. - Gearbox synchros eating themselves. This is a thing and isn't driver error. I've seen multiple cars grind and refuse to go into gear whilst driving sedately. between first & second, second & third and sometimes into reverse from neutral. - Timing chain and tensioner issues. On start up, the car will sound like a van for a second or so, which is usually the first sign of the issue. It'll progress from there over time. - RUST and corrosion underneath the car, particularly at the back. Corrosion on the wheel arches as well. I've seen this becoming a real concern with the FK2, especially in the UK, so I'd keep it in mind with the FK8. - Water in the rear spoiler. Not sure how it gets in there, but doesn't find its way out. Same with the rear lights.

I've had my 2019 FK8 since new and I love it! Only issues I've had is the 2nd gear crunch which was fixed by changing the transmission fluid. And the black trim above the windows has started to bubble and peel which is hopefully getting replaced under warranty. Other than that, it's been fantastic! Looks are of course subjective, but personally I don't understand the hate! I love the Gundam styling of these! Allthough I do also really like the mature lines of the current gen.

Intake valve coking was really common when PCV systems were simpler , when GDI started becoming widespread. It's not quite a old wives tale at this point but has anyone actually seen complaints about Honda intake valves coking with direct injection? Honda has a pretty sophisticated PCV oil separation system going back a decade now (a very easy way to see this is that the k-series direct injected naturally aspirated engines actually have a oil drainback specifically for the valve cover baffles).

I never heared of a failed high pressure fuel pump in the K20C1s but the low pressure in tank fuel pump breaks down due to swelling pump vanes. The A/C condensers keep on failing due to bad quality. The K20C1 does not have issues with clogging inlet valves. The Honda engineers made a clever decision with the position of the high pressure fuel injectors. They spray up towards the inlet valves to help clean them when theire open. It is worth mentioning that high quality fuel helps a lot preventing carbon build up. Everything else Jim mentioned is correct especially the lack of mechanical sympathy some dudes have.
@yankeepapa357219 күн бұрын
My FK8 fuel pump kaput at only 16k km
@nfspeedy219 күн бұрын
@yankeepapa3572 as I mentioned common issue. The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank and pumps the fuel at low pressure to the front. Jim talks about the high pressure fuel pump which is located on top of the engine and is driven from the intake camshaft. It receives the low pressure from the tank and pressurises it for the high pressure fuel injectors to operate as intended. They usually never fail. The high pressure fuel pump is mechanical driven from the intake camshaft via an extra cam lobe.
@LoveLikeaHurricane18 күн бұрын

GR corolla is much more fun in that it is smaller, and likely do better in autocross, mountain roads.

That's just not true. The newer model is toned down and looks great.

People compliment it all the time. They find it exciting. The new one is also nice, but this is not horrendous.

As good as they are I feel like going turbo and semi luxurious isn’t really the type r ethos. They were always high revving lightweight relatively basic cars.

Love theses, not the best looking but stil like them a lot (Honda fanboy). Having spent a lot of time in FK2's and a few Megane RS's, I'll rather have the Megane TBH. Is the ride in the FK8 as bad as the FK2? FK2 is quite on the firm side

Is ot possible for you ReDriven guys to get yours hands on a Subaru Levorg? Find out what’s good, and what goes wrong with it? Couldn’t find any video of that model on the channel.
