It's a unique channel. There are thousands of new car channels, lots of "see how I repair my expensive car" channels but hardly any channels dealing with used cars most of us can actually afford. And the typical Aussie humor is a bonus.

With the used car warranties, they can totally be worthwhile if you are a lawyer 😂 My best mate is a lawyer & had a near-new BMW 135i which he bought a 3-yr warranty for. Car turned out to be an absolute lemon, and he had about $15k worth of work carried out for free. But he definitely had to use his legal skills to get that work done.

I agree with the comments on Mercedes. I owned a 500 Sec coupe for many years. Apart from brakes, tyres and suspension no major issues. Very well engineered and capable of doing over 350000km without any problems. Great engine and lovely to drive. Smooth and comfortable and great looking. People always stopped me to talk about the car.

It's interesting to hear you talk about Skoda, when I lived in the UK Skoda (80's - 90's) was the manufacturer to avoid at all costs, very unreliable and rust buckets, the reason they had a heated rear windscreen was to keep your hands warm when pushing the car. How times have changed..............

Only issue with ‘just take it to the track’, (which is great standard) advice usually, is that you are not covered by insurance while you are sending it with a bunch of other amateurs. So you bin it, you are out of pocket for all repairs or - at worst - a replacement

When it comes to imports, I have a 2008 Nissan skyline 370gt, I didn't import it, the previous guy did. Insurance is a pain because most companies don't think it exists, but at 1700 a year it's not super bad once I found a company who would insure it. If people care, only 2 companies I found that knew it existed was Shannons and AAMI.

Completely agree with the aftermarket parts for the Euros. I had to do the water pump on my TDi Octavia. metal Gates version with the movable sleeve delete for $300 with a timing belt kit. Actually did it myself which sounds horrendous, but I've done this kind of work before and watched lots of YT vids. Had to do the water pump on my 99 Corolla a week earlier and apart from getting the parts that arvo instead of waiting 3 weeks, the jobs were similarly difficult (for different reasons).

24:50 A bit late to the party, but as someone who lives in the Tamworth region, i believe the road youre referring to is the Thunderbolts Way/Bucketts Way that goes through towns in the Barrington Tops Region. You go through some tight turns including Port Stephens cutting which takes you in the dividing range and there are some fairly long straights when you are actually on the plateau. I would recommend stopping halfway at Gloucestor. Many nice cars can be spotted on this route so Hwy Ptrol do the occasional round so there is some caution to be had. However they did mention A dead end so it could be Gloucestor Tops Road, Scone Road or Curricabark Road as they go further but they become dirt roads.

I have a 2010 Mazda3 with 328K klm’s on it. Bought it with 320K on it . I’m the 2nd owner, first owner had a full Mazda service history during the warranty period, then at a local mechanic . The only things that have gone wrong is the transmission control module (a common issue) which is why I bought the car for very cheap and fixed it myself ( bought a reconditioned module) . Unfortunately 10 months later the abs module failed ( a common problem for the early BL series) , and a reconditioned module cost me $1800 + gst fitted. Other than that, just the usual maitenance items, car still going strong.

I feel like when it comes to used car warranties, it often depends a lot on the type of used car and where you are buying it from. The 3-month mandatory statutory warranties are usually ok because they are enforcable by law. I've done pretty well in the past buying "certified used" from companies like Mercedes adn BMW, as they often provide 1 or 2 years of full manufacturer warranty and I've found from my own experiences that they have typically stood by those warranties when something goes wrong. That beign said, you also do tend to pay a significant premium for those cars - often $3,000-$5,000 more then what you would pay from a private sale or another dealer. If you are buying a car from a larger new care dealeship (like a Ford dealer, Subaru dealer, etc) I feel you may have a bit more luck, because these are large well established brands who have a reputation to uphold, and are probably more likely to stand by their warranty - albeit they will still try to get out of anything they possible can get out of. When it comes to anything beyond that from smaller, independant dealerships I feel like those warranties are probably close to useless. One company I do have to give credit to is Skoda. Not only do they offer 5-7 years of warranty on their cars (depending on the year) but they also give you the option of purchasing an extended full manufacturers warranty after that initial one expires, giving you the option of having up to around 10 years of factory warranty cover. I expect there are probably other manufactrers out there that dot he same.

My 2007 Honda CRV has just tipped over the 400K mark and is still going strong. Bought 2nd hand with 130K on the clock and just had it serviced regularly by my wonderful mechanics (Dancers, Ballina, NSW). I must ask them if they hate working on it and buy them a case of beer if they do (or a few nice bottles of red if they don't drink beer)😃👍. P.S. I know that you consider it a "boring" car but it has served me and my family well.

On the Yaris, what's up with their real wheel bearings? i drove at late model one for a few weeks as a loan car while my Fiesta ST was getting crash repaired and the left rear wheel bearing was making a howling noise the whole time and i drove another late model Yaris and it was doing the same noise from one of the rear wheel bearings.. this must be a common problem?? i have driven my Fiesta ST daily for over 9 years and never had that happen even once.. yet anyway.
