JANE: Why, oh why and wherefore is there no one to care for me DEBBIE: I've been told that there's a man for me, but where is he ANN: Wake up, girls, and stay awake Don't you know it's all a fake Men are nature's big mistake ALL: But they're very necessary DEBBIE: Why should I be frantic when I'm in this romantic mood JANE: Guys are so contrary, and most of them are very rude ANN: They take your heart, and break your heart ALL: They're all so undependable, and yet they're not expendable But why, oh why and wherefore does no one seem to care for me JANE: Why, oh why and wherefore does no one seem to care for me DEBBIE: Why, oh why and wherefore ALL: Does no one seem to care for me

Love how they changed the original lyrics. Most young people have never seen musicals like this one that were churned out by Hollywood back in the 40s'. They were so over the top with costumes and sets, beautiful actresses, and almost no plot. I think someone should do a study of these types of films. If you notice there hasn't been a musical film in years.

What fascinates me is there is no contact with the dancers. It's mark hit after mark hit. When I dance I lead with a hand and the follow follows. This is different indeed. Very fun to watch!

I grew up watching musicals with my Grandma, this was always one of my favorites, and I still remember this ending that really made me fall in love with Ann Miller and tap dancing- great stuff

Jane was sensational!!! I saw her on the stage in a revival of the 1919 musical Irene about 1970. In fact I went twice. She had real charisma! After both performances she spoke to the audience from the stage! What a blunder not to have included this in one of the That’s Entertainment films. I think this very, very charming number, directed by Busby Berkeley, modest as it is, belongs in the pantheon of great MGM musical numbers. Note it is filmed in one long take.

Ricardo Montalban was so good looking when young. 😊 Not bad as he grew older. And Jane Powell was great at everything, acting, singing, dancing. ❤
