Damn! - the duo drumming on "Cinema Show"! I saw the "Trick of the Tail" Tour in '76...with Bill Bruford as auxiliary drummer, and as much as I love Bruford with YES, and King Crimson, Bill and Phil really didn't mesh, but with Chester Thomson (from Weather Report, and Zappa), Phil Collins found a drum buddy for life!

Genesis in their prime.! I don’t know why Chester Thompson was not included in their final tour.! What made Genesis so special was the 2 powerful drummers they had.!

Phils voice doesn't really sound all that different to Peters to my ears at least. The only thing that disappointed me about Genesis was the middle-of-the-road Radio friendly direction it took in later years. In the 70's we were all in to themeic (? is that a word?) songs and albums that told stories. The only ones that I know of doing this now are Ayreon and that stuff is GENIUS

If there's any other Geddy nerds here, note how at the very beginning he's playing his brand new (at the time) '77 Rick (note the absence of a white cover around the bridge and the 1" Neck Pickup spacing), then later he switches to his original '73 Rick (white cover suddenly appears and the neck pickup moves closer to the neck) and the tone actually changes pretty significantly if you listen really closely. The '77 sounds fatter and the '73 is more thin but with that weird lower midrange character it always had on the earlier albums.

Once Gabriel left it wasn't Genesis anymore to me Trick of the tail was okay, but after that they went downhill fast Collins can't hold a torch to Gabriel is a singer.... Not even close!

Sounds and looks incredible! However, when watching the guitar solo it's obvious that the audio and the video footage are from two different shows. The drums are in synch but watching Daryl in this video you can tell that he's def playing some different licks than what your hearing! There was a lot of improvisation in this tune, and this is a stunning example.

Reminding Michael Nyman's soundtrack to Peter Greenaway's film The Draughtsman's Contract - _Chasing Sheep Is Best Left to Shepherds_ , I'd say: playing flute is best left to Ian Anderson, Thijs Van Leer, Ray Thomas. Genesis were highly competent, crafty and ingenious on the instruments they played - with that one tiny exception...

Being a great fan for >40 years, I'll take a risk now. While profoundly appreciating their talent, sensibility, songwriting skills, inventive spirit, musicianship, performing craft and more, there's one thing I don't quite get. Of course Peter carried all the frontmanship himself. Of course he put great effort to prepare and play the role. I know all his stage disguise, masks and symbols used, the bat, the fox, the old man, the flower, the Britannia, the bubble creature and more. However, I was never too keen on the way Peter moved on stage, looked up, jumped up, shrugged his shoulders, the voice he assumed to speak his extended song announcements, face expressions, mimics - all in a sort of rather hermaphroditic manner, but in no relation to Salmacis. Voice tone and accent, the way he spoke in particular. Perhaps I miss some hidden very English meanings or fail to see where the parody was aimed at. Could somebody add something? Just his (pretended, artificial) style or making fun of something?

Yes, I did about 20 mins of Genisis at Earl's Court was bit of a disaster as i had front row centre seats but the stage had been raised so I could only see what was going on in the front. I also I filmed Pink Floyd The wall over 9 nights in 80 / 81. I've given it to PF research group.

So bloody frustrating. I think I gave the film to a Genesis had no idea it has been seen on utube. I didn't even know the Yes film was on utube until 3 days ago. It looks pretty good to me with the added title..

I loved Genesis. However, and I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion, the extra drums in concerts took away from the other instruments. Phil could've just stuck to being the lead singer. Maybe it was an ego thing on his part, not sure.
@JorgeRuizGonzalez10 күн бұрын
Una lástima. Para un concierto de génesis en los 70 que hay grabado con buena calidad, y el cámara y sobretodo la edición posterior es lamentable. Siempre poniendo el foco en Gabriel y obviando al resto, y sobretodo a Hackett

@@GenesisMuseum I got the 78rpm recording released by Atlantic. Great album. Hope you get good results. But while some newbies are excited to hear Genesis for the first time, it seems the band is a cultivated taste. Sitting and listening to really good music is an art that seems to have been lost.
