I binged watched the show right around when S4 ended, and caught up to when S5 began. I kinda enjoyed it but didn’t realize they were still in their FIRST year as High schoolers. Honestly, if you take the ending of S1, skip to the beginning of S6, I doubt you’ll notice a difference besides All Might Retiring, Deku unlocking new quirks, and Shiggy having a voice change, because other than that, it feels like nothing “really” happened between so many seasons of “fluff” or slow progress of the story. Did any of these characters that we follow, especially the students, teacher and heroes change drastically over the course of 6-7 seasons? The villains definitely are my favorite part because they feel like they undergo meaningful development

@@BadTakeRisan I will be watching S7 and probably subsequently the final season whenever that’s released. I try to finish the shows I watch as an anime only. But honestly the more I think about MHA, the more I feel like it peaked at Season 3 after OFA v AFO. not to say I didn’t like certain arcs of S4 5 or 6, but when you look at the broad scope, and like I mentioned in my previous comment, you can probably get away just watching S1 and going straight to S6 and not skip a beat.
@BadTakeRisan22 күн бұрын
@koalabearkhan145 Yea MHA definitely peaked at S3. All Might vs AFO and Bakugo vs Deku felt like the culmination of a lot of story arcs. Maybe I’ll end up making a follow up video about how good MHA is.

In alternative history, Japan might have been colonized by the Portugal at this time of what 1600's.. If so, eventually, they would have modernized and all of Asian history in WW 2, might have been different.. An early modernization of Japan, would have led to modernations of China, for sure.. Thank you so much for the breakdown, it was super great. I just have a point I disagree on, I think it was fine and even necessary to skip the scene where Mariko cries for the fallen men in the Cha house. It's like in a book it is perfect because when you read a book you imagine every scene and movement and there is not really such a thing as "overemphasizing" what should be obvious coz the readers imagination hinges on being told what the character feels. In a movie or series you can run the risk of overshowing and ruining the momentum. We see Mariko's expression as we're watching closely, it's neither the cold look she gives Buntaro or the 8 fold fence look of silent enduring, then we see hear her guards refer to her as "Sama" and speak with utmost loyalty and how she knows their names when she tells the second to take over when the first falls, finally when the low ranked (guard?) bows in all respect she bows back and she does it with a levity and respect that is obvious on her face. All it takes is knowing a person's name by their face and having a relationship where they respect you to feel their loss so we are expecting she does just from that little exchange. What also makes it obvious to us is that we have see Mariko breakdown over Fuji's son before to know she feel's loss even if she has sought death for more than a decade, and so assuming death was her plan she knowingly brought those guards with her knowing the outcome for her meaning she may have mourned them long before she gathered the courage to see this all through. So many options and directions for us to mull and it's nicer for me that way because then seeing a specific scene that should have been obvious would feel good but lazy

That's a fair point. After making this video, I rewatched the episode, and she seems hurt by all their deaths. I’ve been watching a few “reaction” channels and while Blackthorne’s reunion scene was clearly shorter than what you described from the books, it seems to be having an impact on non-book readers all the same (reactors seem to immediately get that Blackthorne has really changed just from that short interaction with his old shipmate). Perhaps the writers simplified it primarily for non-book readers? Either way, I loved the episode though Hiromatsu’s scene really messed me up. This is my favorite Shogun recap channel by far! Thanks man, glad you’re enjoying the vids! Really? Well either way I’m happy non book readers realised the same thing. The part that fell flat for me is the depiction of Blackthorne’s leadership qualities and maturity. He’s a much more capable and intelligent man in the books. Having him fight his old crew mate kinda drags him down to that level. Also, his crew constantly questioning his character and plans undermines his capabilities as a pilot, which are meant to be brilliant.

True, that too. Although, I think that’s just Game of Thrones taking inspiration from ancient samurai and medieval times with the importance of houses / family names. I think Blackthorne was not informed. Nobody besides the tea house lady seems to be aware of Toranaga's plan. Not having Blackthorne know would also make his action more convincing and by this time, no doubt Blackthorne has become predictable to Toranaga.
@BadTakeRisan2 ай бұрын
If that’s the case then Blackthorne walking out becomes a pretty stupid scene. We saw a character and his son be killed for politely interrupting a meeting, Blackthorne straight up insulted *everyone* and was allowed to walk out unscathed…
@MustardSkaven2 ай бұрын
@@BadTakeRisan Whether he knew or not has no effect on the reaction of the others. None of them were in on the plan, made clear by their objections and the actions of his son. So even if it was the case he only let Blackthorne know and told him to put on a show, none of the other retainers would have known anyway and they would have killed him. I rather think they stayed silent to keep protocol. So no added value by letting Blackthorne in on the plan.
@BadTakeRisan2 ай бұрын
@MustardSkaven I think it has an effect on how Toranaga is depicted. Sure it doesn’t explain the lack of outrage on Saeki’s part but it does explain Toranaga’s. Like the scene with Fuji’s husband showed, it’s generally expected that a liege lord punishes his own subordinates. Blackthorne’s walk off being apart of Toranaga’s plan explains his lack of reaction. If that or some other reason isn’t the explanation for Blackthorne walking off , then it’s an unrealistic scene purely there for dramatic effect. It also breaks the rules of the universe that were established earlier in the show. I get what you’re saying tho , it’s my bad for not specifying earlier.

I totally agree with you mate, I don’t mind it being different from the book because I can just read the book again. But that scene where Toranaga asks Mariko to pick between her loyalty to him or Blackthorne made no sense in the series because we haven’t seen them be close since the earlier episodes. I get that they’re trying to tell the story through a ‘wider lens’ and not focus as much on their relationship but I just don’t feel any chemistry between them, which kind of sucks… I loved the scene in the brothel in the previous episode where Kiku ‘spoke through’ Mariko to Blackthorne and they realised their desires for each other but it wasn’t enough to keep the romance alive, if you know what I mean? Really enjoying the show so far though and I’m loving these breakdown videos mate, you’ve earned yourself a new subscriber!

I also forgot to say, I’ve got a feeling that Blackthorne storming out on that meeting might be some kind of plan between him and Toranaga, because like you said, he realistically would’ve been punished for such an act! I’m hoping it’s a sneaky plan, otherwise it just doesn’t seem to fit.
@BadTakeRisan2 ай бұрын
Yeah I get what you’re saying. Clearly the shows focus is on the political conflict and the wider pov like you said. Unfortunately the romance does take a back seat due to that. The chemistry isn’t really there. There is a scene in the book which should happen next episode that does improve their chemistry quite a bit. If they include it , they can “save” that story arc and have their chemistry be similar to what it was in the book. I doubt it tho since the show seems to be doing its own thing so maybe we’ll get some original scenes between Mariko and John like the natto scene! You also make a good point about the Blackthorne walk off scene. I never thought about that 🤔. Maybe he’s going to his boat or getting a message through to Toranaga’s other forces in edo somehow?
