Do you have any idea when retailers will start selling the V2 Advancer only? I see most retailers are still selling the V1 (e.g., B&H and Cinestill). Kramera Store has it, but they are in Europe. Cinestill has the bundle, but I already have the holders and light; I just need the Advancer
@valoico

We can't give an exact time for our retailers, but Cinestill is our US distributor and have ordered the v2 Advancer. I would assume that they will have the newer stock by August at least. Kamerastore is our direct outlet, operated out of the same office as VALOI, so we have more direct control. We also ship a lot of items, both VALOI and used cameras, to the US directly from Kamerastore, and most of our customers say it's often quicker than internal US mail.

The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the holder and physical scanning process, as we do in many of our videos. For results, I recommend you look at our page about what camera scanning is, where you can also (half-way down the page) find downloadable examples for you to judge on your own: www.valoi.co/camera-scanning

This seems to aid alot in correcting the "reverse vignetting" but it doesn't solve the issue entirely. Under-exposed frames will still have a hazy border but noticeably less that without the correction made.

How many 35mm slides does your "Slide Basket" hold before it has to be emptied?
@valoico
@valoico 28 күн бұрын
Hi! It depends on the slides (they vary from 1.5mm to 4mm in thickness), but even with thicker ones you will get about 10 in there. The neat part of that you lose the order you put them in - for some people that's an important part of the archive.

I've ordered the upgrade kit. Not because I've had *any* issues with the v1, but because it's such a great product that I just want to support it. I would say though, you should put a comment on the half frame mask that it is meant for a longer focal length macro lens. I had to chop bits out of mine to stop it showing up in shot. Keep it up though. I'll never get the time, or negatives, that got eaten by a cheapo 3d printed "competitor" back.

I can't understand why the new knobs with the wider screws are not included in the Advancer v2 Upgrade Kit, or am I wrong?
@valoico
@valoico Ай бұрын
Hi! The new knobs are not included as we feel that the previous rollers are just as capable. The limited number of the v2 frames we offer as an upgrade, include the added thumb screws which enable the holder to be secured in its place. That functionality is something we think people may find valuable. :) -Tuomas/VALOI

do you have any lenses to reccomend for sony 6300?
@valoico

I would recommend 7Artisans` 60mm macro. It is fairly cheap, small and yet offers great image quality when stepped down to f5.6-f11 -as you would anyhow when scanning. Of course the Sony E mount enables you to adapt variety of lenses and even manufactures like Sigma offers the 70mm and 105mm macros but to keep your APS-C kit as compact as possible, I would go with the 7Artisans. kamerastore.com/fi/products/7artisans-60mm-f2-8-mkii -Tuomas/VALOI

I’d love to get this Valoi converter but, I can’t decide on getting either the Laowa 65mm APO Macro or the 7 Artizans Macro , for Fuji X mount. I’m looking for the best quality lens for my XT5 to do copy work of negatives and slides. Which lens would you recommend? Thank you.
@valoico
@valoico 2 ай бұрын
Both are good lenses. We have tested the 7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 version 2 and it falls into the upper parts of category 2 (category 1 being our best classification), meaning only extreme scrutiny will put it apart from category 1 lenses. The Laowa 65mm APO Macro we haven't tested, but we have tested its larger cousin, the 85mm for full frame, which is an excellent lens. My assumption would be that the Laowa 65mm is a small notch about, then it's up to you to decide if it's worth twice the price.

@@valoico Thank you. Is there somewhere I can see which lenses are in category 1?
@valoico
@valoico Ай бұрын
@@alfabravo80 At the moment we don't have a published list, partly because it's not complete (doesn't contain all the relevant lenses) which could lead someone to believe a great lens is not even good enough to test, and partly because the information is hard to digest. For the Fujifilm X system your options for Category 1 lenses are: Adapting a good clean copy of the Nikon Nikkor 55m f/2.8 (with an extension tube if you want to scan 35mm) or using a bellows/helicoid with an APO-Rodagon 75mm f/4 1x. The Laowa 65mm is untested but we assume it will perform in category 1.

just unboxed mine.. and found it incredibly difficult to scan strips that are excessively curved. the 35mm holder doesn't have any guides internally, so once the film enters, it just curves into the space inside. Ive removed the holder to test it out manually, and even if i guide the film through, it has too much curvature to scan properly.
@valoico
@valoico 4 ай бұрын
Hi! Could you send us an email with pictures of your film? This really shouldn't be the case with 'normally' curved film. If it is 'excessively' curved, there is no scanning holder in the world that will hold that flat other than a sheet of glass... You will likely want to look into techniques for flattening the film somewhat ahead of time.

Looks like you are using a micro four thirds camera to scan these smaller film formats. Is that intentional or that was just the camera you had on hand? Thank you
@valoico

That's just one of the cameras we have around the studio - so accidental. That said, the smaller the format, the less influence the size of the sensor has. A full-frame or APS-C sensor will scan these smaller formats just fine though!

Great video on an important aspect of DSLR scanning. To make this even more accurate and easy one can make himself an overlay, that can be used when scanning tethered to a computer. Most software that you can tether shoot with allows you to overlay an image while shooting. I made a neutral grey overlay with multiple, centred rings of varying diameter. When I align my setup I can use this overlay to line up the lens barrel or all the other rings you see in the reflection of the mirror with the rings of the overlay.

Yeah, it should work well for that. Just be mindful of the limited print size based on the distance from the column to the middle of the lens, and limited by the legs. You can find measurements on the listing.

It does not make the framed film flat, hence your image will be out of focus unless your slide is perfectly flat which is hardly the case with old slides due to be digitized. Any concept to address this issue?
@valoico
@valoico 5 ай бұрын
You're correct that this system doesn't flatten slides - I have in fact never seen a scanner or projector that does flatten slides. Are you referring to the frame not being flat or the film in the frame? You would have to pre-flatten them with weights and/or some humidity, I suppose. Of course a glass sandwich could be used to flatten the film, but your question is the first time I hear of this need so I wonder how common it is to have unflat slides. Interesting question! - Arild
@zollieuncle9647
@zollieuncle9647 5 ай бұрын
@@valoico Well, I think if the film is less curly, than the depth of field, it works fine, however, the depth of field at minimum focusing distance is 0.1-2mm depending on the aperture set and the focal length of the lens so it can be critically shallow. The film advancing solution of the 360 system also helps to keep the film flat, but there is no such feature here.
