I just found a pair of Chippewas in original box( was a return ) from the '80s U.S made for under $60 bucks. And before that I got a pair of brown Harleys US made from the '80s or '90s new in box for around $70. I work at a really old surplus store here in CA

Another fantastic and informative overview. Any thoughts on Tencel?

Perfect video. My personal style in the summer includes shorts which I know is not your style, but the shirt options are the same. Chambray, linen, rayon, and light weight cotton plain weaves are ideal. One thing to note is not all rayon is created with the same environmental specifications. Cheap rayon is terrible for the environment. I try to use Tencel brand rayon fabric as much as possible since it’s made responsibly and is super high quality. Tencel aloha shirts are the most comfortable shirt I have found.

When I was in the navy, chambray shirts were our basic work shirt. I hated them. But, 30+ years later, I am starting to appreciate the look. I also used to wear western shirts for work when I was doing construction inspection and I would occasionally get compliments on them on the job site. Never would have expected that.

A long-sleeved chambray shirt is a great option for protecting your skin and still living with summer heat, especially if you're trying to look after your tattoos. Obviously skin cancer is far more serious, but I'm just a very shallow person. Anatomica's Big Yank repros are fantastic, I think definitely on a par with The Rite Stuff's Heracles which is the only Rite Stuff item I have. Going off on a tangent, do you by any chance have a pair of The Rite Stuff Daybreak pants? They look phenomenal! Thanks again for another fun, informative vid.

Fun video guys !!! 2 things I noticed. Y’all talked about how the wool jackets make you have a more casual look which I would agree that’s one downside to most of the leather jackets you own. Though cool jackets I think they add 5-10 years to u and yourre a relatively young dude. One of the exceptions is that buco jacket . I really like how all the hardware on the lower parts seems to be dark or blacked out to some degree cuz it simplifies the look and differentiates it from others like it that all look the same. The studs on the collars are very cool and the fit looks perfect. Doesn’t look like a grampa jacket lol. Have a great week ! Thnx for the video !!
@almostvintagestyle6 күн бұрын
That's a fair point. Some leather jackets, especially brown ones can make you look a little older. Fortunately the wool ones don't do that if you wear them with the right outfits
@RogerLoera10 күн бұрын
I don't want to offend anyone but the leather jacket hands down is really hard to pull off! It just screams "TRY HARD" to be cool. Every guy buys that "cool" leather jacket only to end up in the closet collecting dust. I mean, not even women can pull off a leather jacket, just comes across as cheesy. Especially the black leather jacket. The wool jackets are legit badass though!
@marcfischetti54909 күн бұрын
I’ve got to disagree with you there. I live in my leather jackets and my wife has a few she often wears. I ride a bike so there’s the practicality also. I’m 56 years old and worn black leather jackets all my life, they’ll probably bury me in one 😂. That’s me in my profile pic with the Mrs both in black leather jackets, not trying too hard to be cool but just happy.
@Null8349 күн бұрын
I have a schott perfecto and I rarely wear it because it’s just not functional or comfortable enough even after I broke it i, I don’t think it’s because people can’t pull it off but for me personally it’s just not something that functions well as opposed to to my M65 Army issued Field jacket which is vastly more versatile and comfortable.
@almostvintagestyle6 күн бұрын
Sorry, but I disagree. Once they fit well, they are effortless and very easy to wear. They also can be quite versatile

Methinks it's not just in the clothes you prefer style wise but how you wear them. (The comments about flannels are a real tell.) Tucked shirts, yours I would call a neat style. The heavy flannel untucked is a bit more "grunge" and that was not a heritage style---I can hear (the ghost of) my father telling me to tuck in my shirt. I think my wife prefers "neater" too, but I tend to go both ways: a neater, more put together look and a denim-head-ish undone. I think the key is knowing what you like so that you wear the look and it doesn't wear you----and that you have fully accomplished as well.
@almostvintagestyle6 күн бұрын
That's a very good point. I do tend to go for a neater style even when I'm casual. I definitely am not into any sort of grunge style at all

I like the direction they went with this boot. It looks slimmed down with the 270 degree welt, white contrast stitching and toe cap break up the vamp nicely and all eyelets is the way to go in my opinion. Still waiting for Color 8 to come back in stock in my size, hopefully by fall.
@almostvintagestyle6 күн бұрын
Agreed. The 270 welt, eyelet choice, and brogue cap toe really elevate this boot

I'm a bit baffled why I never hear people talking about my biggest CXL gripe: over time the gradual abrasion wear has them looking almost like nubuck - often to the point where no amount of polish or conditioning can get them to have a smooth finish anymore. I have about ten Horween CXL jackets and two of them are phenomenal, breaking-in in very attractive ways, about 6 of them are just entirely unremarkable - basically every old, used Aero jacket you see on ebay, where they look like someone took high-grit sandpaper to the whole thing. But then one CXL jacket that I bought for a good friend as a gift - even though it was the same leather as all my own Aero jackets, the leather looked absolutely atrocious. If you're familiar enough with Aero or Horween CXL jackets, you'll notice that they use visually-inferior pieces for the back/underside of the collar, armpits, insides of the cuffs and the bottom inside panel (the piece that protects the bottom of the liner from fraying). These pieces have ZERO character and they start looking like nubuck after a few weeks of wear, months before you see even a hint of patina or wear anywhere else. Well anyway, Areo made the ENTIRE JACKET out of this trash and I was absolutely livid, because I KNOW they knew what they were doing because, again, on all my other CXL Aero jackets, they only use that trash on the parts of the jacket you don't see much of. Anyway, my point is that even if you order two identical pieces in CXL, you can see two DRAMATICALLY different-looking pieces of leather - and it doesn't just look different, the garbage CXL wears out ten times faster and looks like nubuck as opposed to your rad, 40s horsehide jacket. The worst is with my Wolverine CXL boots. I own 5 pairs of Wolverine boots - 3 of which are 1000 miles; two are black cow CXL and one is their first 721 Cordovan 1000m's. My first black cow CXLs look almost entirely like a smoother sort of nubuck, and no amount of conditioning or polish cam get them looking anything like they did for the first 4 years of their lives. My second identical pair ended up doing the exact same thing but with only ONE shoe 😒 again, looking like a worn out eraser, which could only be mildly and temporarily mitigated by condition or any sort of treatment. And I haven't really worn my cordovan 1000m's other than for special occasions but I (rather surprisingly) found an identical pair of cordovan 721s at a thrift store and i was absolutely floored at how the color had gone from most of them. Normally they're a rich No. 8 burgundy, but these were a pale, washed out light, pinkish-brown and felt like someone had taken some 600 grit sandpaper to them lightly over the course of a week - they were just insanely soft (which was kind of neat, because when I tried them on, swear to god, they felt like an old pair of slippers) but they looked like hell - NOTHING like a vintage pair of boots but rather like someone experimenting with trying to artificially age their shoes. But in all these cases, Horween was the link, and I'm at the point where I just wont buy anything from Horween anymore - especially after purchasing a bunch of Japanese jackets and boots made from Shinki (though some Shinki jackets I've owned have looked like greasy-shiny black trash bags) the good stuff looks not only incredible new, but also ages like the good vintage leather does (Particularly Fine Creek stuff, for whatever reason). Anyway, apologies for the novel, ive just never heard anyone voicing the same complaints I have about Horween/CXL so I figured I'd speak up, after hearing you talk about it. Also I appreciate the video, as I think I learned a couple things 👍

It’s a damn shame that despite engineer boots being historically popular with working class folks from 50-80 years ago, this style of boots have effectively become a staple of people from upper middle to upper class people who dress down in workwear. I’m guilty of this myself to some extent, which is why I wish there were affordable options.
