The more I hear about (and from) PSAudio and Paul McGowan’s other businesses, the less impressed I am. I think they make okay equipment but it’s greatly overpriced. Which is terrific for Paul McGowan.

Bravo! I feel much better now with my Netgear GS108 for my expensive NAIM gear. We audiophiles can let our addiction extend to non-essential things, if we don't do enough research. Dare I ask... do ethernet cables make a difference? I've done blind A/B testing on my system with different ones and I swear that I can notice a small difference.... ok maybe I'm crazy.

4:33 I like how Amir throws subtle hints about how manufacturers try to give their devices an unfair advantage by having the max output at a higher voltage than what is considered standard/normal, leading to louder sound for unsuspecting audiophiles. "People might prefer that".

Think of how much less entertainment there would be for us stereo types if the “audiophiles” weren’t hell-bent on their $500 (let alone $5,000 or $50,000) cables. My daughter and I have such fun laughing at the goofs on YT with their $20,000 cables. And we have even more fun laughing along with Amir as he defenestrates these “experts”.

So a scientist designed and performed an A/B experiment that failed to hold all but the measured variable constant? Then published a paper describing his nonsense methods and conclusions? And nobody said to him, “Hey, Bob, that’s going to make you look like an idiot.” The scientific academy, ladies and gentlemen.

I have an Audioquest RCA interconnect - not $2500, it was maybe $200. I used it to go from my turntable to my amp, replacing the Fluance factory cable. I just wanted to see if there was even a placebo effect. Quite the opposite. I picked up a very audible hum right away. The Audioquest was hooked up with the arrows pointing in the right direction. I switched back to the Fluance cable - nothing. Dead silent. Played a record, it sounded terrific. I plugged the AQ cable back in, got the same hum. Checked the connections - all tight. Jiggled them, no change. Even “reversed” the cable. Same hum. So that ended my experiment with high-zoot interconnects. YMMV.

@@sonusbonum "Well Thomas, you decide... If it's up to Amir all audio manufacturers better quit and start producing potatoes." As long as there are enough "audiophiles" out where which are willing to spend thousands of dollars for CD transports or audiophile Ethernet cables and switches it is easier to earn money than producing potatoes... "I mean, this guy has comments about friggin' everything. So again, I have a Patek Philippe that sucks, because it has no crystal and he has a Casio that has a crystal and therefor it is more precise." That is the difference between people who like mechanical watches and Hifi audiophiles. They are not claiming that their "analog" watches are more precise than much cheaper digital quarz watches. "So buy a Casio and save the money..." If your priority is to have a precise time it is a good decision to do so.... From a pure rational point that makes sense. "Have you noticed that the top 20 all are chip based DAC's... And his argument is: Why invent something new which is already invented" For audio purposes where you not have sample rates in the Megahertz or even Gigahertzrange so called 1-bit oversampling DACs (chip based) are a very cheap and very accurate method to do the job. The remaining unlinearity of these chips is so ridiculuos small compared to the unlinearity of analog components like microphones, amplifier or loudspeakers that it does not make sense to try to improve them further. "... I mean, how dare he...!!!" You still not told that is wrong in this video....

@cf24319 күн бұрын
I do not understand. This device looks pointless to me. As far as I understand it has digital in and digital out. So noise, filters and etc. are meaningless as long as you have correct, not corrupted data. Does not matter if it is noisy or even super noisy. The other pointless thing is the function itself. It is doing a part of what a DAC is doing anyway. You have the data with certain sampling rate, which means a lot of whole in it and based on an algorithm it populate these wholes with some more data. The DAC is doing the very same think but it fills up the gaps with some algorithm (analog or digital or a mixed way).

OK Samir, I have been seeing a lot of your videos. Now I bought an USB cable with a separate line for power costing about 5 Euros. I also had a friend who is a very good cable maker make the same cable but with better quality cable which costed me 400 Euros. The difference was clear in two seconds. It was not a small difference no it was like being in another universe. So you are probably right with regard to your measurements. The conclusion is though that there must be something that you oversee.

The type of distortion used seems almost designed to not do anything. Why? Your typical power supply uses a bridge rectifier and filter caps. This draws current from the line only when the diodes are forward biased. Usually only near the peak of AC cycle. (Causing noticeable distortion in the AC waveform.) So those triac switching steps vanish. Better would be to insert noise/distortion at the peak of the cycle. A consequence of this is that if AC line noise/distortion were a problem, the effects would have a very strong 120Hz component simply because of this switching action from the diodes. On the other hand, there is one device which is more sensitive to AC line problems and that is the belt drive turntable. But even that has a significant low pass filter in the form of the drive belt and platter mass.

I’ll give the GR Research guy credit. There are people who enjoy their HiFi more if they have $500 power cables. Is it in their heads? Of course. But somebody is going to sell them $500 power cables, and this guy figured it might as well be him. Naturally, part of that business model is a healthy dollop of salesmanship. Brain is a very complex and can make you feel or here something that actually doesnt exist. I work for the BioPharma industry. During clinical trials for new drugs, some of the patients are given only the excipients without active ingredients. Esentially they are swallowing sugars, water etc. Some of those patients report improvements on their symptoms. That we called the placebo effect. Brain have tremendous power over your body. I think this placebo effect happens a lot in the hifi industry.

Just a simple question regarding the comment "Improvements can't be measured": If they can't be measured, how can you (a) gurantee that the "improvement" is there at all, and (b), how do I know how much of the improvement is being delivered? 80%? 70%, 40% ???? Surely if a cable is only providing anything less than 100% of the "improvement that can't be measured", then it is faulty no?

Not only is he selling snake oil, but he also has the nerve to sell it at a high price. When you look at something like the JBL Partybox Club 120, which sounds great, has good high-frequency definition, excellent bass, plenty of space, and solid build quality, you start to realize that commercial products aren’t so bad after all. Thanks to the fierce competition among countless manufacturers, we get highly competitive products. Honestly, it’s not worth paying more for something else. At home, I have a Partybox Club 120, and it’s more than enough. Whether it’s for parties or watching movies, it’s absolutely perfect. Plus, everything is integrated-no need for a separate amplifier or anything like that.
