Hi buddy what’s happen if you change the spring in wp forks that only have spring in one leg? The ktm 1290 Super adventure R 2021+ have preload adjustment in both legs but only one visible spring in one leg, I it is 6.5nm I’m looking to put 7.0nm, but I don’t know if that will cause problem as the other leg don’t have spring. I got my AT new in 2016 - currently have 50k miles on her - and have had the shocks rebuilt twice (currently have Nitron cartridges but the sticktion issue is making the bike boarder line dangerous to ride) - I would love to have this done but dont know of any places here in the states that do this kind of repair.

Is there a point to drill a hole 2024 Ktm exc fork tube AS well? There are 3 holes from Factory near top of the tube...
@shocktreatment5495
@shocktreatment5495 Ай бұрын
Absolutely......The location of the hole is more relevant than the size. The pressure (both negative and positive) is being generated just behind the seal. The closer you get to the point of actuation the more effective it is.

Terry! Been watching your videos in America. Thank you! I have a couple questions: 1 sag is set and you go outside to test, is that the High Speed Compression you are adjusting? If rider likes increase in dampening (clockwise) what do you do to the setting of the sag at the shop? If rider likes decrease in dampening (counter-clockwise) what do you do to the setting of the sag at the shop? Finally, once sag is set where are you going with your high speed dampening? Where are you setting it at since the adjustment has now been compensated on sag.
@shocktreatment5495
@shocktreatment5495 Ай бұрын
I am adjusting sag via an Xtrig preload adjuster using an 8mm tbar. We are chasing ideal drive characteristics. This is done as a priority before any damping changes are made. Remember....on dirt bikes it is the sag that is the primary mechanism for swingarm angle adjustment. That's the whole point

It is not so much about suspension. The progression really assists with chain torque reactions. This is where a linkage shines. Any bike that doesn't have a linkage will benefit from a progressive spring.

Basically the level of damping generated vs the level of damping required. Sometimes you may find that the amount of damping is fine but the balance between low speed and high speed is skewed which will affect traction and control

Makes sense. Curious if you still use this method? TwinAir specifically calls out to use a dry filter that: "DO allow the filter to properly dry after washing. Oiling the filter without allowing it to dry sufficiently will trap some of the moisture." But to me oil displaces water so I'm not really sure how it could trap the moisture. This video is 6 years old so just curious if this is still your go-to method?
@shocktreatment5495
@shocktreatment5495 2 ай бұрын
This is still the best method I have found. Nothing here is static and we are always prepared to evolve if a better system, product, material etc comes along. I would be inclined to think Twin Air are accounting for the dunderheads that seem to be increasing at an exponential rate....

I’ve talked to two local tuners (Arizona) and both recommended your cheap option, and they seemed think they could get excellent results that way. The shimstack that they supply will put you in the ballpark at a minimum. Potentially within a couple of clicks. If you find you wish to adjust the stack later on, you already have a baseline to adjust from.

@@aaronbashnick7581 You can simply turn the fork upside down and remove the base valve. You won't lose any more than a few drops. Just make sure you clean the base perfectly before removing the base bolt.

Question: When you turn down a lower tube and knock the imperfections off with 400/800 grit paper, doesn't that create micro ridges on the chrome that will grind away at the inside of the fork seals?
@shocktreatment5495
@shocktreatment5495 3 ай бұрын
They are as you say "Micro Ridges" and in between those ridges sits a film of oil which, as you are no doubt aware is non compressible. This allows the seal lip to glide over the ridges rather than drop down in between them. Its benefits have been well studied and proven. The effect is very similar to cylinder honing. It in fact promotes seal life rather than hamper it....but I understand your doubt here as it doesn't sound immediately logical.

My van is a bit low so I need to compress the forks by a ratchetstrap and sometimes leave it in the van over night before a race. Is the springs or forks gonna suffer for this? Or is it a non issue really? Ive heard alot of rumours about this over the years that the springs will get softer etc..
