So I know you'll understand this. I live in a log home built in 1984. (Never build a log home in the heat/humidity/bugs in Georgia) Upper cabinet fell about 6 months ago. Built a frame to put it on to get it to correct height since I was by myself. Similar to what you're trying to do with that cabinet. Started to screw it into the backer board and into the logs and saw that they had the screws going into the valleys (rounded logs inside and out). It's a wonder it stayed up for 40 years. L off the main cabinets so they're in solid wood. New backer a little higher to catch meat of wood and longer screws. May need you guys to come down and help with other log cabin repairs for me. :)

I have to admit - Chris is my favorite dude on cruising channels in history. The personality and quick quips are absolutely amazing. I cannot stop laughing at the end when he asks for 1 thing they should have done before going to the Bahamas, and Sandra names about 5. Then he ends it with "what's one thing". Tears in my eyes. I keep replaying it! Chris Forever!

Chris had to put the antennae up a few feet in our anchorage in the Bustards. There was maybe 5 minutes somewhere on the Mississippi where we lost connection. I can't think of anywhere else where it was a problem. We use a Pepe Wave router with SIM card that shares data from our Telus plan...T mobile seems to be the carrier it hooked up to in the US. And we swapped out the SIM card in the Bahamas for one from Aliv. Tremendous coverage there. Lost connection in the middle section of the Atlantic Crossing and the Gulf Crossing of course.

Yes! This winter was a bit cooler according to the locals. We didn't feel the need for AC until the last week when they declared an emergency because of the heat. Boy, was it hot!!! If it was even 10 degrees hotter than we experienced then I'd say AC is a must...but we were seeing 25 degrees more that last week. More than 104F. Even now in Florida, I'm dying...as we wait the next few days for our marine portable unit. Let it be known, however, that my temperature range of comfort has always been small. Loved seeing the Grand Lucayan Waterway segment. That whole development was amazing in its scope and equally amazing how it has languished mostly undeveloped and little used for decades. Sad you skipped Green Turtle Cay -- it is an absolutely charming island. Maybe you can stop there on the return trip. Treasure Cay was a nice place to visit but the marina is gone and many houses were ruined in the huge hurricane a few years ago. The beach there is still superb. Thanks for the video -- great fun to watch. The Sea Of Abaco is a wonderful cruising ground -- enjoy it.

Hi, We are using the same LiFePo4 battery I installed back in 2022. So far the batteries seem to be doing really well. I have not tried to quantify any capacity loss since new but I would guess pretty minimal. we have struggled with the solar panels a bit in terms of physical damage but we seem to have sorted that out as well. I think our current record is 11 days on solar which includes typically heating a tank of hot water a day and typical daily life.

Just found your channel by chance and decided to watch. Imagine our surprise seeing our boat in the background when you anchored at Great Sale. We were the white Prestige Flybridge “Encore.” I actually remember hearing the radio call from the other Canadian boat. We only stayed one night and headed to Lucaya after that, going around West End. I was not brave enough to take the canal as you did. Worried about the shallow sections, but you seemed to get through just fine. We were at the end of our time in the Bahamas and are now back home on the Chesapeake. We miss the beautiful water!! Safe travels as you continue your loop trip.

Oh isn't that a wonderful coincidence. The boat that hailed us was Canadian. It turned out he didn't respond because his radio volume was turned down. Not sure if you followed the eventual conversation but he just wanted to know if we were headed back to Florida. It threw me when he hailed because we were clearly in the middle of setting anchor so we thought there might have been a hazard of which we were unaware

how many hours total to cross? how much fuel did you burn and speed?
@gothatawaychrisandsandra
@gothatawaychrisandsandra 20 күн бұрын
It was about 9 hours. For 3/4 of it Chris set the speed at 7 knots. We went a bit faster due to the Gulf Stream and some tidal currents working in our favour. We usually burn slightly less than 4nm per gallon. It was 60 nautical miles from our anchorage near the west end of grand bahama Island to the marina in North Palm Beach. So 15 gallons? We paid $6 a gallon in the Bahamas but it's about $4 a gallon in the US. We hold 300 gallons total and topped up over there with 100 gallons. So somewhere North of $60 to cross if you assume a blended price between $4 and $6 a gallon.

As someone from the south in the United States, there should have been a cup of sugar in that pot before you put the hot water in!!! Actually, I think my brother and I are two of the few southerners that prefer unsweet tea
@gothatawaychrisandsandra

Canadians usually like their tea sweet, too! But we drink a lot and the sugar adds up so we cut it out years ago. We put a splash of lemon juice in too - not lemonade, which has sugar. The Bahamians love their Arnold Palmers. The best we coukd do is ask them to start with unsweetened tea and a 25% ratio of lemonade. If I asked for lemonade wedges instead, they gave me lime.

Hi Chris, I have a 100A alternator as well on my boat. I installed an Orion 12/12-30 DC-DC charger to charge my LifePO4 battery bank. I also ran into the overheating issue so I attached a temperature sensor to my alternator and connected it to my CerboGX. I programmed it to disconnect my Orion when the temperature reaches 145F. So far this is working, however it still appears that 30A is pretty large to handle so it cycles quite frequently. I have ordered the new Orion XS charger which has adjustable amp settings. At the low RPMs I usually operate at the centrifugal airflow isn’t sufficient to keep these small alternators cool. Cheers, Michael
@gothatawaychrisandsandra
@gothatawaychrisandsandra Ай бұрын
Hi Michael, your setup is similar to mine except I am using a Sterling 12v DC to 48v DC charger and the alternator is a 100 amp small case Balmar with an external regulator (MC-618). Turns out my issue was with the cut out voltage for the Sterling unit. Once I dropped the cutout voltage by 1 volt I started getting much more consistent charging. When I have time I am going to play with increasing the charge output on the regulator to see what the alternator can tolerate.

My 100A Delco alternator gets hotter than i’d like with anything over about 15A continuous feeding my house lithium’s. I don’t know how much it’s already putting out to charge the starting batteries and run the engine as well. Maybe I’ll put an amp clamp on it tomorrow with the external charger off and find out. Does your setup include a CerboGX? I saw your overhead monitor with what appeared to be the Victron VRM status page.
